StarTopic The Switch OLED Model |ST| The Switch O-Thread

If anyone on switch still playing DQ 11 at all, can you all help me tweet dragon quest Twitter to add the ability to toggle off the mini map hud. Playing portable and now on oled makes it terrible to play with. Honestly any help/assistance is greatly appreciated!

Aaaand the package is finally enroute to USPS. So it would had arrived by Monday if it hadn't been for Colombus Day 🙄.

Though after seeing the route, a logical explanation actually arised of why it went to Orlando: UPS Mail Innovations packages probably get processed in the Hato Rey Distribution Center. Puerto Rico has two main distribution centers for USPS: Hato Rey & Cataño. The former is currently closed because the building is falling apart, so every piece of mail usually processed there has to be sent to US and then be returned to Puerto Rico for finally delivery. So by going to a Orlando center first, that step is eliminated and it can go directly to regional distribution, and finally the local post office once it arrives to the island.

I've got mine yesterday and i'm really happy with it! The screen is such a big difference from the regular Switch, the pictures i found online doesn't do justifice to the big improvement that it is.

Here it is with my new red Joy Cons that i ordered from Nintendo Store 2 weeks ago (i'm not a fan of the white nor the neons) :

Man does that look sexy.

Mind taking screencaps with Eastward running on it? I want to see how gorgeous the game looks on OLED.

I did everything right. Step by step. And I’ve done this before too.

I gave up and just simply put my Nintendo account on the new Switch, but the Animal Crossing transfer tool won’t work and errors out after both consoles acknowledge my island.

Abysmal experience.

Shouldn't the old ones work for the OLED too? The foil should fill the whole screen anyway, no?

Managed to order one for 10 over orginal price.
There are notches on the bottom of the original screen protector for vents or something. With my luck that is exactly where I would crack my OLED switch.

Picked one up earlier today, since I could't keep my hands of one. Haha.
I was blown away at the size of the screen, it feel so much bigger. And the buildquality feels so much better.
I was on the fence on upgrading, but I'm glad I did.

Just fired up Sayonara Wild Hearts on the OLED, it's absolutely transcendent on that screen!

The back stand was confirmed to be magnesium alloy instead of plastic. To me the rest of the back feels the same, feels very nice and should avoid the cracking of the V1/V2 plastic cracking.

That was likely for the speakers.
Well the Lite charger works with it.
All Switch models include the same AC adapter, model number HAC-002. I've noticed small updates to the printed information (including updates to a longer model number, likely indicating minor differences in internal components), but functionally they're identical. You can even plug the Lite charger into the dock and it'll output video.

Has anyone got a nice non-leather (i.e. vegan) case that fits their OLED well? I'm incredibly disappointed my PDP retro Link case doesn't fit. I mean, it does, but not without pushing down on the L and R buttons. It fits my v1 with the slightly different shaped Hori D-pad attached and that would be my preference.

I've got some iVoler screen protectors on order. I usually use Orzly but I was swayed by the framing tool.

Has anyone got the official carry case with screen protectors? I'm wondering how many card slots it has as my current Switch case has 10.

A lot of the other cases out there look really bulky..

From the pictures it seems it has no card slots.
It’s more like a sleeve. Shame cause I like how slim it is.

I loved it too. In my head it was a sort of silly leaderboard... Seeing if whatever it is I'm curre y playing is going to topple X or Y. It also surprised me how many hours I'd put into some of the cheapest games I've bought... Into the Breach, Wargroove, heck even Kotadama at 69 British pence.
Yeah Kotodama is one of the best value pick ups for me on the eshop.

Despite being a sucker for Nintendo hardware over the decades, I initially scoffed at the value proposition of the OLED.

"Three-hundred forty-nine dollars and ninety-nine cents? For a better screen on a system I play docked 99% of the time anyway?? Psh! This is an easier skip than to my Lou my darlin'!"

Yet as should have been foretold by freaking obviously, my Nintendo diehard is kicking in and I want this thing Oh(led) so bad. But of course it's too late to find one, and who knows whether or not it will be competently restocked within the next year.

But I'm loving all of these impressions. Keep fueling my miserable FOMO!

Man, this system is so much nicer than I was expecting! The screen size and quality is a huge step up from the OG Switch and the whole device just has a more ‘premium’ feel to it.

Tried a few games out to see the screen, the Ori games look gorgeous on it!

I use the Hori Hard Pouch, almost as slim as the official Nintendo Case, but sturdier (EVA) and has the extended space for the Joy Con. My V1 got bend carrying it in the official case.

But the Swoled fits both:

I still use it for carrying additional Joy Con:

You can skip the framing tool. Applying the screen protector was very easy since no special things (like the light sensor on V1/V2) to take care of.

Thank you, @Intoxicate - I really appreciate you sharing those photos. I think I like the look of the Hori case. Can I ask what brand tempered glass you used? Looking at reviews of iVoler now and someone has pointed out that the protector has really rounded corners so doesn't fit the display optimally. They must of guessed on sizing and before release. Your protector however has squarer corners like the OLED screen itself. I'm gonna reorder the Orzly now. Man, I'm being super picky.

Once again thank you so much. Hori is actually releasing several new slim tough cases but I bet they are the same as what's available now but with a different design if yours fits.

is there a review out there comparing a switch OLED to like a TV OLED? like C1 or A90J
Not a review, but I had a B9, have a C1, and have used OLED/AMOLED iPhones for years.

I am not the most discerning eye, but I feel the quality is at a similar level.

Oh goodie, the package is finally at the Jacksonville Distribution Center, surely to get sorted and be send over here. Yet, the estimated delivery from USPS is by Friday, October TWENTY TWO. Unless that thing is coming in a cargo ship, there is no reason it should take that long. I hope it was some typo when entering the data, and they meant to input Oct 12.

Going to attempt to set up the OLED and transfer stuff over a little later this evening. Let's hope Nintendo's erm, design 'quirks' aren't too trying.

First impression has been excellent, the screen really pops.
Questions about data transfer - if I do a profile transfer, the play activity data will transfer correctly and will increment correctly on the new switch, correct? As for the game icons on the og switch, I know that doing a profile transfer supposedly wipes it and they will not be sorted by playtime correctly on the OLED, but would having a primary-secondary switch setup prevent the icons from being wiped on the og Switch?

I bought the slimmest glass protector which claimed high transparency. The protectors I had for my old Switch felt a bit thick. Went with one from BRHE and am pleasantly surprised, it fits perfect and doesn’t add much:

Most original Switch cases should work, e.g. I sent back the TomToc slim case sind it was too wide for the OG switch, maybe it was designed for the switch and some Joy Con silicon covers, but I never used those.

Done and ordered. Assume these are the same: https://smile.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B09DPMTB3Z?ref=ppx_pt2_mob_b_prod_image

Thank you again. I agree, my Orzly protectors on my old Switch and my partner's are rather thick.

I have a Tomtoc case but stopped using it when I noticed it was depressing the left thumbstick when closed up. The zips were a bit wonky too.

Yes, if you do a full transfer and say you aren't planning on using your old Switch (you can always add your user back again) your play activity transfers over and the counter will rise correctly. Your icons will also remain on the old Switch, regardless of primary or secondary shenanigans. My old user account isn't on my old Switch any more and the library is still there but as I've taken out the SD card and wiped it for my OLED all the games have a cloud symbol next to them to indicate they are archived. If I were to log on to that Switch again I could redownload and play them. Hope this helps.

Just download those you use.
Like, I get it…

But come on, I literally just transferred my user account and data, why not also transfer the Nintendo system id to the new card too? I just told you that I don’t intend to use the old system, full stop and transfer.

It is just so frustrating to redownload on this system.

This screen is legit

Also kudos to Nintendo for somehow making even the dock feel more premium with the upgrade in materials lol

It’s relatively simple to go to the eShop and just click on all the games you want to download…..but getting your cloud saves? What the fuck is up with that?! Is it really one at a time?
