I know they said their videos are going to be coming out exclusively on patreon first, but I admit when I clicked on this and saw "1 day ago" as well as only 336 views I was ... a little concerned, lol. Guess they're just uploading Youtube videos and setting them on private? For some reason I thought patreon had a video service that they'd be making use of instead.

Glad to know they'll still be successful for the time being! 😂😅😅

that's how a lot of paterons work. they upload unlisted videos to youtube and give the links to subscribers.

Listened to the first episode yesterday and really liked it. Only watched a handful of Nintendo Minute clips throughout the years but these two are super cute together and seem like very good friends. Looking forward to additional episodes.

I don't like podcasts but I'm loving their podcast. Tried to watch the video but it just works better as a podcast. Hope they keep doing it for long, hope it is super successful!

Same, although I don't recall ever watching Nintendo Minute. They really knocked it out of the park on the episode's production quality (or at least the audio version) and they have a really good rapport with each other and just a lot of infectious enthusiasm. The episodes are a little bit longer than I prefer for shows, but I definitely think I'll stick with them for a bit.

I've never particularly been a podcast person, but I've found this iteration of the duo surprisingly palatable so far. Looking forward to seeing their growth from here, especially if they can manage to fill a niche like this for me.

Count me among those that didn't give a poot about Nintendo Minute, but out of the Nintendo corporate bubble they are very fun to listen to given their long rapport. I chuckled a few times at least at their good-natured digs.

Latest episode shared some stories behind the Switch launch. But what really perked my antennas was their offhand mention of "as soon as we got the Switch, we knew it would be a hit ... unlike the WiiU where we were like uhhhh".

I want that story, about how NOA's marketing team perceived the WiiU and subsequently struggled (and failed) to sell it.

Also stories about 3DS rollout, The Price Cut, landing a mainline Monster Hunter again, figuring out how to market major third-party Japanese titles that were under publishing agreements. And, in a somber moment, what it was like when news of Iwata's passing came down on the local branches.

Just so much that these two can uniquely cover that probably no other show can.

this show is really fantastic. finally watched the first episode last night and liked it so much I had to watch the next two today. Kit and Krysta are really really good at this.

It was interesting hearing them talk about Smash, especially being on the inside and pretty much -without getting into any details that may break specific NDAs - saying that Nintendo pulling out of EVO was the right move, not just because of Sony owning them even - although that did play a part, but other issues they didn’t get in on. Even now that they are no longer with the company and can question the decision like they will openly do now regarding Nintendo.

And also alluding to the bullshit and gross behavior within the Smash community playing a part of Nintendo just wanting more control of it.

Never got anything out of Nintendo Minute. Way too sugarcoated and artificial for my taste, even for a PR show. Like some of these terrible Disney TV productions.

But this is different and interesting. Some real nuggets of gold in the first few episodes and a first gentle look behind the curtain of one of the most secretive companies in this industry. The reactions about the intern unveiling of the Wii U („Uhhhhh…“) and the comment about a potential 4K Switch alone are pretty fun.
Besides, I am on Kit's side about the exploding budgets regarding the AAA titles from Sony.

I really like to listen to their journey in the industry and hear what happened behind closed doors at Nintendo. That bit talking about Wii U to Switch was super interesting. Also how Krysta was in charge of Switch's marketing and Kit of BoTW's marketing. Never knew they were so high up in the company.

Also when Krysta talked about being the lead for Smash's marketing and she had to deal with the community allegations and looked at the camera and said "that was not fun" with spicy eyes ouuhhhhh. I can see what Kit is talking about when he says Krysta is sweet and nice but do not make her mad, i'm sure she would have things to say to those people lol.

Loving them so far. Not just the insider stories, but my issue with so many podcasters is that they are mostly so snarky and cynical and represent so much that I dislike about the gaming community, but Kit and Krysta are so positive, and even with their critiques on games or Nintendo.

Now, as a Wii U apologist, I do have something to say since they are both from the marketing department. I loved the Wii U and the interface - minus how slow it was - and it was the stepping stone towards Switch. The GamePad had the limitations of course, but seamless off tv play was a game changer for me. The range was a let down as I cooks the use it on the bedroom, but as someone that plays Switch mostly in the living room, kitchen, and porch, it was great as I played the Wii U the same way, minus bedroom. It was great to not be bound to the TV and my wife could watch TV or play on the PS3 and I’d just play on the GamePad.

The Wii U marketing was terrible. That early marketing focused primarily on the GamePad, making it seem like an accessory, and with little focus on the core games, showcasing either party games or interactive experiences. That machine should have been marketed a whole lot better and I think most of us agree that the way the machine was promoted was mind boggling.

So that I will leave on them a bit lol

I think we should shorten the title of this thread to The Kit & Krysta Podcast ST. So far I've been listening to this podcast during my daily walk and I'm really enjoying the laidback atmosphere it has.

It's really interesting to hear their perspective of situations where folks usually make a storm about (like the EVO cancellation or the music takedown on YouTube); They obviously don't know the exact reasoning of stuff decided after their departure, but they know how things works inside Nintendo;

In fact, I feel we more than often overreact on many of those situations, but other times, I guess we're just not informed enough to actually know what's up behind the scenes... say, Nintendo sending a C&D to AM2R, while they had Samus Returns in the pipeline.

Generally it's a good idea to assume that anything Nintendo does has some business reasoning behind, and it isn't just because they felt like being evil that day.

It very likely won't make it any better, but at least will make it have sense.

Obviously you can't judge the immediate reaction from fans of Nintendo's actions when comes to stuff like this; Raw emotions and all that, and we don't need to necessarily agree just because there is a reasonable business angle coming from those.. But at very least, I learned to not be surprised nor get stressed when these kind of stuff happens

Like, lots of people created this boogeyman image of Nintendo that they hate fan-creations and such, but in fact Kit & Krysta themselves even brought someone that makes custom amiibos on Nintendo Minute once!

You'd think this is exactly the kind of thing Nintendo would hate and shut down immediately, especially because they sell their work.. but no, they actually promoted.

Yup. And most fan creations are not shut down and you can find many online to this day, such as the custom Mario fan creations outside of Mario Maker. Same with art, custom amiibo, merch.

Certain things they will stop, as you and others mention, there is a business decision. Especially anything Pokémon because those decisions fall on TPC in the end.

And regarding music, yeah it’s sucks, but Kit is right, music rights are a nightmare, especially in Japan where many music compositions are shared between multiple parties, including the artists.

The problem is that there is a huge desire for easy access to Nintendo soundtracks and other companies, even from Japan, are doing a better job these days, like Capcom and Square Enix with their presence at Apple Music and Spotify.

Which is true, and the soundtracks from Nintendo are available…. But in Japan. So yeah, the import costs are nuts.

I realize this is from an older episode, but I'm glad I listened to the one about the Switch launch. They casually mention that a lot of people at Nintendo are wrestling fans and I now finally understand the whole Nintendo x Suda51 x NMH thing. I've always been glad it's a thing, but it seemed like an odd relationship until I got that final puzzle piece.

AC NH was really a lightning in a bottle situation and seeing Krysta telling the story of what happened behind closed doors while it was becoming a phenomenon is interesting.

That's true but for most Nintendo games they already own the rights to all the music because it's all done inhouse.

There's going to be a patreon tier where they will answer the "spicy" questions they get asked 😂

A Shining New Era

Few days late to the anniversary, but I'll always watch more Kid Icarus: Uprising retrospectives!

... wait, what? It really is about Uprising and not Smash Bros Ultimate? I was only making a joke. Awesome taste, these two.

That title is so suspiciously worded that I would have been surprised if it wasn't about Uprising, haha.

I’m only 4 episodes in, but so far this is such a good companion piece to Retronauts for me. It’s so dang wholesome but with so many glimpses into how things were done it really goes well with retrospective looks at titles that are at least 10 years old.

This style of show is way more interesting to me than 3-4 people talking around a mic about the week’s releases and “news”.

I usually avoid corporate-sponsored podcasts, so I never watched Nintendo Minute. But I’m enjoying this a lot! It’s clear that they have great chemistry, a genuine appreciation of Nintendo games, and years of insider experience. Glad they are now able to speak openly (within reason). I like the positive vibes and will plan to tune in every week.

Also, it seems like they were fairly high up in the company before leaving. Hopefully their Patreon takes off. That must have been a huge life/financial adjustment for them both.
