KADOKAWA CORPORATION (Headquarter: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and Member of the Board: Takeshi Natsuno; hereinafter "KADOKAWA") announced today that the company has reached an agreement with Anime News Network Inc. (Headquarters: Quebec Province, Canada, President: Christopher Macdonald, hereinafter “ANN”) with respect to KADOKAWA's majority acquisition of ANN's media business.
well, this is certainly a turn.
Kadokawa of course is a massive multimedia conglomerate. which own numerous Japanese companies including ASCII Media Works, the streaming service NicoNico, Yen Press.
and a duo of game companies. From Software as well as the one we don't talk about.
you might also recognize their former chairman for being arrested in a bribery case relating to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, but that's probably unrelated. 🤔

Kadokawa will be opening a new company located in the US, "KADOKAWA WORLD ENTERTAINMENT, INC", which is where ANN will be slotted into.

and a duo of game companies. From Software as well as the one we don't talk about.
They also own Enterbrain, which used to publish games as well, most notably Tear Ring Saga, a TRPG by Fire Emblem creator Shouzou Kaga (which the company got into some heat with Nintendo over since its working title was Emblem Saga and Nintendo felt it infringed on their copyright, eventually winning the court case), Wii action RPG Earth Seeker and a trio of dating sims with KimiKiss, Amagami and PhotoKano. They're also the company publishing RPG Maker as well as a few tech and gaming-related magazines.

On the subject at hand, I don't expect this to not bring with it a conflict of interest in one capacity or another.
