The Texas governor, Greg Abbott, issued an executive order Monday to prohibit any entity, including private business, from enforcing a Covid-19 vaccine mandate on workers and called on state lawmakers to pass a similar ban into law.
The move comes as the Biden administration is to issue rules requiring employers with more than 100 workers to be vaccinated or test weekly for the coronavirus. Several major companies, including Texas-based American Airlines and Southwest Airlines, have said they would abide by the federal mandate.

That’s fine, they’ll get overturned by the courts like they did in Arizona. This is just political posturing for a 2024 run if Trump croaks before then.

I shudder at a future of fuckint Greg Abbott as a presidential nominee. For how much he has fucked over Texas he'd destroy the US.
He has next to zero national star power. He's only doing this insane bullshit because he's being flanked from the right by Allen West and Don Huffines who are legitimately psychotic and deranged.

The Lt. Governor of Texas, Dan Patrick, sets the legislative agenda for Congress. As shitty as Abbott is, Patrick holds the true power in Austin.

Currently in Texas(staying with family but originally from Canada), and the folks here don't really care at the end of the day. The numbers are slowly dropping for hospitalizations, but some hospitals are still feeling the brunt of covid patients.

My niece just started school and the rule is that you don't have to stay home if you have COVID, and no students should be sent home to isolate if they come in contact with another student who has COVID. Masks aren't even encouraged. It's a nightmare

Yeah nobody really cared down here from day 1. The boomers and well-off Gen Xers that form America's dominant political class are just incredibly stupid and selfish, they're incapable of accomplishing literally anything of positive value or setting us up for success in the. future. These people just want the post-WWII capitalism gravy train to continue for them and only them as long as they breathe air (something we might not be able to do in the future lmfao).

It's sad and fucked up that that everyone's numb to COVID at this point, but what can you realistically do? To quote a former president, "It is what it is."
