News Taiko no Tatsujin: Rhythm Festival announced for Nintendo Switch (UPDATE: release date trailer, coming September 23rd)

I don't know much about these games, but with 570+ songs, would this just be the best version of Taiko now? any reason to play the others?

Subscription based screams a lot of greed from Bamco. They didn't want you to use the first switch game's DLC, but they also didn't want to skip having DLC all together. They knew a separate Song list with no compatibility wouldn't pass so they went this route. Pricing is pretty much the most important detail we don't know of.

Still, it's definitely a little sad that this will obviously be a Taiko with an expiration date.

For fourteen years there was only one Taiko game ever released in the West, and now we're on our fourth Taiko game to get a western release on Switch alone. That's awesome. My drum is ready for the Rhythm Festival!

There is a demo for this on the JP eShop and in the demo it states that songs can also be purchased separately in the eShop, so it looks like you don't need the Taiko Music Pass subscription if you want more songs than what's in the base game. That's good to know!
