News Super Mario Party Jamboree announced, coming October 17

oooh this is interesting

just idle speculation, but what if they did little clips like this each week featuring six of the playable characters?

we would be in what? the first week of September with a video clip of only three characters? that would be strange

unless they decided to reveal three more by then... 😙
I mean Ninji isn’t officially announced yet, wouldn’t surprise me if there’s another 6-10 hidden/unlockable characters. Like one a map and a couple tied to bonus modes like super

I won't be convinced by any so-called insiders that you can play as Mario in this Mario Party game until Nintendo confirms it in a tweet. The footage in the trailer might be from cutscenes for all we know

So we all know how great Superstars is on Switch - what does Jamboree has to offer for you guys to top Superstars or are there already announced things that will likely put it above Superstars for you guys ?

Not gonna lie, after Superstars and it restoring that high quality Mario Party feeling im really excited for Jamboree and expect a lot - i hope it does deliver and keeps the momentum of the series going.

I skipped Superstars but I'm getting Jamboree because it has one board more. And it's been longer since I bought SMP.

New Donk also showed up in the 3DS and Switch versions of Captain Toad (along with a couple other Odyssey locations)
Oh yeah! I completely blanked on that. Those were super cool and I would love more stuff like it! Though it does suck that it replaced the 3D World stuff and ending that lead into it, I quite liked those challenges tbh 😅

The fact it has the random side modes and larger roster is already much better

New short twitter trailer dropt.
It says ''The Most Characters Ever!''

20 freaking minutes before they dropped this, I literally said on twitter:

If this becomes true, I want to make sure I made a big freaking wild guess:ROFLMAO:

Out of curiosity, anybody know what the previous "most characters ever" was?

The record holder is Super Mario Party. 20 characters is the most, whereas other series didn't have as much. Moped Mayhem (a 30 character race minigame) may give off the illusion of the most characters, but a lot of them aren't playable anyway.

Mario Party Star Rush technically comes close to this, at 19, but four of them are the different coloured Toads that are more like default characters than selectable ones, and three of them are amiibo-exclusive (Bowser, Bowser Jr., and Boo).

Thank you for reading.

If they have the whole Super Mario Party cast, I can't imagine Ninji being the only new one. And I would love to have Blooper back.

King Bob Omb and Tostareeno would be the only ones that bring me off of my usual characters I think, especially King Bob Omb

I think it's interesting how the friendly species don't get as much playable demand as the enemies. You normally hear of fans wanting enemies like Goombas or Hammer Bros. or Bloopers to be playable, but not much demand for playable Penguins, Sprixie Princess, or whatever other friendly species they introduced. I guess it speaks of how the friendly side has it all covered (seriously, if you look at the friendly side, they already have 12 of them there), while the enemy side doesn't have as much. Or perhaps how the friendly side do not have as much impact as the enemies to the player consciousness.

Thank you for reading.

They should make all the weird party hosts throughout the series playable. Just saying, MC Ballyhoo, Brighton, Twila, Tumble and the Star Spirits would go hard.

The things I'd do to play as a Mario 64 penguin or one of the locals from a Mario Odyssey kingdom

Amazon Italy say "22 Playable Characters and 113 minigames"

Amazon Italy say "22 Playable Characters and 113 minigames"
Wtf, only 22? Well, I guess that means RIP Dry Bones, Hammer Bro., Pom Pom, and probably even Diddy Kong if the second unlockable character isn’t him… And I’m guessing Pauline likely isn’t making the cut, either… Damn.

Are you sure they're not just guessing? How would they know this?

I doubt this is correct.

The description was provided by the publisher.
Also with 21 revealed characters, why saying 22 (and not more than 21) if it's not an official description

Now I'm curious who that 22nd character ends up being

My heart hopes for Pauline but my mind is telling me Chargin Chuck based on that one gameplay snippet

JP Site released; there are a lot of new details.

Pauline is confirmed playable; Hexes are 100% confirmed now (albiet nerfed, description says they can only be placed two spaces in front or behind), and more.

You know I am surprised at the lack of Nabbit (assuming 22 characters is accurate). Though perhaps we have to wait a gen before he becomes a mainstay.

Yes, yeeeesssss, the process of having Pauline in the spinoff is all but complete now hahaha. Good to see new, albeit old, face in the Mario series

One of my biggest personal gripes with the rosters in Mario spinoffs are the abundance of generic enemies that get chosen, especially over more established individuals. Of course I understand that there are plenty of people who love being able to play as Koopa Troopa or Shy Guy or even Spike & Monty Mole, and I respect it, but I just personally see them as disappointing inclusions when characters like Diddy Kong, Nabbit, Petey Piranha, etc don’t make it in. Even in cases like Boo I’m always kinda like “come on, King Boo is right there!”

(At the end of the day it doesn’t really make a difference to me, I’m gonna be playing as Birdo 85% of the time anyway lol)

-When I Google translated the item text it said there are thirty seven kinds but that might be a mistranslation. Would be insane though
-they majorly improved the way extra charcaters work from Super, you unlock them by winning 5 player minigames and they double everything you gain/lose. So for instance you lose/gain 6 coins on a red/blue space respectively
-It seems like every map focuses on having multiple gimmicks that mix together strategy and random chance very well, so that’s exciting. Really Mario Party 6/7 inspired
-They brought back old minigames, including the basketball minigame and bumper balls (also apparently the snow one from 6)
-The purple items kinda work like orbs, being traps set throughout the stage

So Pauline’s the last character then? Good to see her finally make the cut, but it sucks that Diddy Kong was cut, and that we’re not getting any more characters than that…

Just a heads up: all the Japanese text images have English-translated alt text.

I wonder what that "coming soon" button is at the bottom.

She may not be. We'll have to see later.
Why else would the Amazon listing have said that there are 22 characters then? After all, that information would have been supplied by Nintendo, I’m sure. And it still meets the criteria for having “more characters than any other Mario Party” since it beats Super Mario Party by two. Just wish they’d have gone a bit further than that…or at least have a better selection of characters if they’re limiting it to just 22. Like, do we really need Spike to return or Ninji to be added over someone like Diddy Kong? 😕

You're saying limiting it to just 22 as if these games usually have more than this. Although I get being a bit bummed about Diddy Kong possibly not being here. Also, I personally argue that Nintendo adding the generic enemies in the multiplayer Mario spinoffs was one of the best decisions they made. Not to say that they should always be picked over characters like Diddy Kong, Petey Piranha, etc.
