Should finally be caught up with awarding badges. If you can't tell, I've been a bit busy - mostly with outside of Fami responsibilities, but also with Yoshi's Island. So without further ado...

If I'm gonna conquer the one classic Super Mario game I've never finished, I'm doing it properly...by saving myself a 20 hour playthrough and using rewinds to hold onto my stars. Hey, if Nintendo didn't want us to use it, they wouldn't put it in their emulator. Even with that, this was the longest single game in the challenge. Me playing all four games in Super Mario All-Stars to 100% took less time than Yoshi's Island 100%!

What a game, though. One of the most impressive looking and sounding SNES games, incredible controls and atmosphere, secrets galore...it's seeing the transition from course clear Mario to sandbox Mario in real time. And with that, I am now a Super Player!!

There are only two badges that stand in my way of a perfect 60/60. Will I have the time to beat Yoshi's Island again on GBA to get those secret levels? Will I just give up and look for a save file to play them on my cartridge/emulator of choice? And will I find some players to play Mario Bros. Battle with?? Only time will tell.

So I got a little burned out on Mario games so I never finished the Advanced games. Regardless, I want to thank VolcanicDynamo for hosting this event. This is by far the best Famiboards event that I have ever taken part in (and I've hosted a couple of them myself). Every once in a while I have to remind myself how special the Mario games are. Replaying all of them to 100% completion was a great joy, especially with Wonder right around the corner. Great job!

And that's a wrap on the Super Mario All-Stars Celebration Event! The last badges in the thread have been awarded, and event submissions have now been closed. Thank you to everyone who participated in the festivities.

This event has been a real passion project for me. I started the initial planning document on the very last day of 2022, and we've been hashing out the details to have a proper debut for the event since early January. I wanted to make this the best event I could, and I was always encouraged to go further by the rest of the staff. First, we had 35 missions. Then we increased it to 50, matching the Metroid Prime and Fusion event. And then when Super Mario Advance 1-3 came to NSO, I knew we could go all the way - 60 total missions, the most of any Famiboards event yet. I want to once again extend my thanks to @Aurc and @Josh5890 for helping to plan the event, come up with challenges, and make the badges. I truly could not have done this without you two, from using the Metroid event as my template to all the encouragement I received along the way.

And what a ride it has been! We've had 25 people complete at least one Mario game during the event. Nine people cleared all 50 main events, and three went above and beyond to clear all 60. Even if you earned at least one badge, you're all Super Players to me! As a bonus, I'll also be awarding badges to those who didn't report completion of Mario games here but did so this year in the 2023 Completed Games thread! While the folks here in the thread will be the ones entered into the raffle, I do hope that everyone else enjoys their badges and Famicoins!

Playing these games again for the event was a real treat. You all know that Super Mario is my favorite gaming franchise, and these are some of my favorites out of the lot. I even got to finish Yoshi's Island for the first time - twice! Playing for high scores adds a different focus to Mario that I usually ignore, and it was fun trying to maximize my points for each level. Speaking of which, here is the final cumulative high score tally, besides those on the tables. I didn't get to find everyone's Yoshi's Island scores, but the numbers here reflect what I was able to find otherwise.

There's just a small mistake though. I was given the badge for SMB2J ending instead of SMB1. Have no fear though, you can keep it there as I have a screenshot for SMB2J ending too

I replayed SMB2J 8-4 just to double check and yea it's slightly different. In SMB1 ending Mario only blushes, but in SMB2J he has love hearts for eyes hehe. Also Bowser has 2 pillars hanging from the top of the screen in SMB2J. Here are a couple images for the SMB2J ending:

I'm really glad this event was rerun since even though it originally ran for so long, I just couldn't make the time last year. I had intended to play both Mario Land and Mario Land 2 at least ahead of Mario Wonder, but it just didn't work out. Not only did I get the chance to correct that, I got to dig into both games much more than when I had played them on 3DS. I didn't know Mario Land had a hard mode for example and I never looked into how many hidden exits Mario Land 2 had even if I accidentally triggered a few. So yeah, thanks @VolcanicDynamo for hosting such a cool event!

I also found out doing these that in general, I prefer Land 2 with a large screen without "classic feel" on the "Color" setting, but Land 1 feels plain more responsive when everything is set the opposite way, small screen, original GameBoy screen, with classic feel. Land 1 is the first game where this has been the case. Something just feels better like that, while 2 benefits from the upgrades.
