5% weight reduction is not enough for me (though the transparent model is tempting!)

Valve, if you make a much smaller, much lighter, much weaker Deck just to play older PC games on it, I'd pay big dollars!

I can't justify purchasing a revision when I'm happy enough with my current Deck, so I'll just wait for Steam Deck 2. Excited to see where this technology goes in a few years.

Yesssss, I had a feeling they would do this. Switch OLED screen has spoiled me (and it will be rough when the Switch 2 drops and it comes with a LCD again).

Might get one in the first few months of 2024 now.

Well that was fast.

Not as fast as seeing Linus TT back as a person we should all listen but still.

Kinda kicking myself for being an early adopter here; Deck's still too new and too expensive for me to really think about upgrading already. With Valve apparently telling Schreier they're working on a Steam Deck 2 for 2 or 3 years from now, I'm probably good on handheld PCs until then

Still, for anybody that doesn't already have one, an OLED screen and better battery life are big improvements to an already pretty-impressive device

I’d be interested in this if I didn’t have a Deck already. As things stand, spending this much money on a revision (that’s not even available here in Germany for the time being anyways) just isn’t worth it to me.
Nice upgrade over the original either way, tho.

Same. I don’t think I’ll upgrade for at least 3-4 years.

Fixes maybe 50% of my issues with the system since it’s mostly software related problems I have, but I don’t think I’ll upgrade right away cause they’re for sure going to put this thing on sale within about 2 years.

One of the Android handhelds with Moonlight would do this for you. But you still need a laptop or a desktop with Sunshine I suppose.

The real news is refurbed 64g models are $279 right now. I know it's not the new fancy model, but that is a ridiculous steal for what you get out of that price point even after you factor in putting in a new SSD/MicroSD card for storage. Would hop on that deal if you wanted to get into the Deck for cheap, or just have a portable emulator that can do it all.

Streaming? No, no. Just a weak windows handheld that can run some old stuff natively. Between PS3-PS4 in terms of power is enough for me. Both steam and gog is full of game that can run smoothly in that hardware.

A bit disappointed if I'm being honest.
Valve said not too long ago that there wouldn't be major updates to Steam Deck hardware for a few years and then they release a relatively significant revision.
Still doesn't affect me because I ordered my Deck at launch and got it in the second batch. I have barely used it.

Valve going full Nintendo wasn't something I expected -- I thought the Deck revision would be more of a silent upgrade using the die-shrunk chip but still an LCD of the same size.

It is interesting to see the designer say that they'll be ready for the SteamDeck successor in a "couple" years, though. A more powerful SteamDeck 2 in 2025/2026, one capable of running current-gen AAA games well, would be very tempting if they can maintain the pricing.

Dang, that sounds sweet. 256gb is a nice upgrade for the cheapest model. 64gb was a joke. Forza Horizon 5 alone takes up 160+gb on my pc. I'll probably wait for a steam deck 2 though as I'm still happy with my origianl deck. I wonder if they added any way to clear shader cache in game mode yet.

Finally the switch 2 killer has been revealed. The switch 2 is already outdated before even getting announced.

So, after thinking about this some more, I’ll hold off for Steam Deck 2 if it’s only a couple of years out (Already waited a few years anyway at this point)

My main reason for wanting a Deck was for the option to play 3rd party games on a handheld along with Sony and MS 1st party. I’m thinking next gen I might end up just rocking a Switch 2+Steam Deck 2 combo and that’ll get me access to almost all the games at launch.

Thinking about selling my Deck and buying a 512GB OLED refurb whenever they become available. Then I might be able to upgrade for ~£50. But probably not. Will probably wait for second gen hoping it also has hall effect sticks and vrr.

Wow, Valve really wants to become competitive in this space. It looks gorgeous!

Nice to see Valve actually go and upgrade their hardware. Please release a Steam Controller upgrade or announce that VR headset upgrade thats been rumored for years.

I'd be in for this if it allowed dualboot of Windows easier. Not sure if it changed much but I remember the process was a pain.

I'll stick to my ROG Ally. The more powerful processor and native Windows meaning access to Game Pass and other games that don't work well on Proton. Steam Deck though is a great system for those that have a majority of Steam Software or games that work well on Proton. Especially for its price.

Sounds like a great purchase for someone who was on the fence before, but not much of an upgrade for already owners of the regular Deck. I love the Steam Deck so much, but slightly better battery life and thermals isn't enough for me to buy one all over again.

I'm fine with my current one and will wait for Deck 2.

The more I read In to the details the more substantial the upgrade sounds, slight screen size increase, much faster charging, and faster quick resume are merely footnotes. The idea they are working on a hardware improvement in 2-3 years is also nice.

Headphone jack.

The ability to open it up easier for repairs or to put in a new ssd is also great for me.

Then the price decreases on the old models, and the flow on in to the pre owned market is also great.

I really how valve managed to get these in front of more general consumer shop fronts. And that devs keep targeting lower end hardware. Being able to run modern games, even at low settings on a smaller screen is great for a variety of consumers. And maybe getting another incentive to keep file sized smaller...

Just a heads up-- don't buy that 1TB one. The anti-glare screen really dulls the colors and visuals. Considering how bad it is on the first steam deck, you'd probably be paying $100 more to almost invalidate the OLED.
I find that the matte screen is a requirement since it doesn't reflect everything in the world into my vision.

Tsss, I might have pulled the trigger on the limited transparant edition if it were purchasable in Europe. It looks really sleek and it's right up my alley.

Yeah, this really saved me some stress and money.

I can hold off with my Switch for a while, and the Switch 2 will hopefully also keep me satiated, I need to build a new proper PC anyway.

It's still so big it might as well be a laptop.

...they weren't paying attention... the Lite model is supposed to come out before the OLED model.

Seems a bit too late to release this with practically the same SoC when there are better options out there. It's a PC, not a console.

Beyond my frustration of trying to get games to run properly on the Deck, I never really liked the clunky and industrial look of the thing and was hoping for a complete redesign in a new model... still ugly as sin.

I might order one of these sometime next year if it looks like Nintendo isn't going to release the Switch 2 sometime next year. Like I think it's coming in 2024 but you just never know anymore and this Steam Deck is looking pretty damn slick.

Etched glass with OLED screen?

Way to give away all the OLED beneficts. Pay 100$ extra for a worse product. Well played Valve!
