It’s basically like the Split Pad Pro that they previously released but this version is closer in design to the joycons but with a bit better ergonomics.

Like the Pros it does not have HD Rumble, Gyro, NFC.

Ooh neat! I’ve got their Split Pad Pro and really like it for games like Monster Hunter. I’m not sure I’d pick these up for myself but they do look really cool. Kinda wish they had Gyro, Rumble and NFC though.

I don't really miss the Rumble or the NFC, but the lack of Gyro is a big hit. I'm guessing these also don't have wireless either...?
Yeah doesn’t seem to be wireless. I’m generally surprised there isn’t a licensed joy-con that has the same features as the regular joycons or at least just have regular rumble and gyro, though I guess it could be something that Nintendo wants it to be just from themselves internally.

I do hope one day 8bitdo produces a joycon alternative.

If it has Gyro, I would have bought them without thought. I need gyro controllers before Splatoon 3 comes out.

No rumble, no buy. It adds so much to my immersion, playing without it feels off/wrong at this point. MH Rise e.g. isn't the same without the rumble supporting impactful moves.

Like the split pad, no gyro or rumble, no buy. Shame too as this looks right up my alley as I find the split pad pro to be too big and ugly.

This is giving me Wii U Gamepad vibes in a cute nostalgic way

the split pad pro gave me Steam Deck vibes so it was a hard pass, the custom ones were super tacky so I'm glad the options here are much simpler
I thought I was the only one! When they showed the back I immediately thought of the Wii U gamepad.

Hopefully Binbok apes this design and adds rumble and gyro.
Do you have the other Binbok controller? First I'm hearing of that and would love impressions!

EDIT:
Whaaat I didn't realize Gamecube style joycon had gone mass production and are on amazon! I never could bring myself to pay an etsy price haha

I have these:

Been four months with no issues. D-pad's stiff but buttons are good and mushy. Sticks are much better than normal joy-con, and I prefer this smaller size with grips to the bigger split-pad pro. Also wireless, gyro, and rumble (bit strong) included.

They sell bigger ones which are split-pad pro sized, and I there are many duplicates out there.

These don’t work with Super Mario Party, Ring Fit, or Switch Soorts, right?

The two color design (front being different than the back-half + around the joystick) is kinda cool. Too bad the lack of gyro in Hori controllers, I ended up buying a grip for the regular joy-cons. But this seems to be a nice controller

They have gyro so whatever game has motion controls works. I'm assuming no Ring Fit compat since it's bigger than the Joy-Con, and no IR.

On-topic of the Fit, I honestly think the aesthetic is so nice that I'll pick one up at a discount.

The form factor being relatively sleek but still having ergonomic curves makes me think that should Nintendo ever redesign their joy-con, they can give it a butt.

Gyro/Rumble I never like so as far as I'm concerned, this should be handy for my old, docked switch when I wanna play an arcade archives game or something intense like Dread/Smash! The old split pad seemed too giant for my tastes and I liked the feel of the hori D-pad joycon better

It definitely looks better than the Split Pad Pros do. I could see myself buying them if only they had gyro 🤷‍♂️

Wanting to buy one of these home console-ish grips for a while, is there any good ones at a budget prices. No need to be hyper quality, just comfy and working good is enough

I love the look of these. I have used the OG Daemon X Machina Split Pad Pro on and off over the years, and I recently imported the Split Pad Pro Controller Attachment Set from Japan (it was cheaper importing than buying locally in the UK). The new Split Pad Pro has a revised back support that now fits properly with the OLED dock--the older models do not fit regardless of what reviewers say and Hori acknowledges this.

These slimmer, sleeker 'cons look like they have kept the revised back support so they should also work with the attachment set.

My chief complaint with the Split Pad Pro is that the sides tend to really dig into my palms when I grip it. This will mitigate that issue while still giving me full size buttons and a proper D-pad.

No rumble, no gyro, no gyro, no gyro, not wireless and no gyro.

Why even care / 10

Holy shit, these are amazing! All it's missing is analog trig-

...why is the octagon gate around the two joysticks like a stop sign instead of a compass?

I’ve been using handheld mode exclusively for games that are playable only with the dpad or touch screen (mostly turn based games) for quite a while now ever since my joysticks started drifting slightly after around a year of moderate use. Since this has no gyro I guess it’s a skip

I would want my new Joycons to not have any drawbacks so I can play any type of game on handheld mode. I just did a bit of research and apparently you have GuliKit who are making Hall effect sticks for joycons (basically driftless magnetic sticks), they posted it on their Twitter. They already made the King Kong 2 which is apparently the best Pro Controller alternative out there. Therefore I’ll be looking into their Joycons, if they turn out well that will be what I’m getting. Hori might be good and officially licensed but no gyro is a bummer

LOL was about to say this. I just turn off rumble, haptics, etc. on controllers (cuz they interfere with actually controlling the games more often than not), and even though I own a ton of amiibo (mostly as displays) I don't scan them much, and I have my Pro controller for that. No Gyro though is a deal breaker.

Just spotted this on a Google Translate of the Hori website: 'This product cannot be mounted on the “Grip Controller Special Attachment for Nintendo Switch/PC."'

Most of my interest now lost. Will only consider if they are considerably more comfortable than the fatties.

The special attachment as it was referred to isn't the joy con grip but a special grip for the Split Pad Pro. It's wired and has a headphone/mic port. I bought it recently. It's pretty decent if you don't mind wires.
Oh gotcha - yeah that's a bummer. Odd since the railings on that just look like joy-con railings.
