If they asked who the cutest member was, I would have chosen Frye, but that wasn't the question.
I like Frye’s design too but we all know most people love Shiver’s design. We knew that since launch lol That’s why Spla4 needs to have hosts who all have appealing designs or all of them have goofy designs. Keep it fair

I had a feeling Shiver was way overrepresented bc most matches I was playing were mirrors, hadn't happened since the first splatfest
ahh okay, in hindsight that makes more sense

getting into matches phenomenally quickly with both teams should've tipped me off lol

the most naked one will always win a straight popularity contest

however I also think they've given her the most popular option several times. spicy food, vanilla ice cream, dark chocolate, and of course gear were inevitably going to win

To be honest I was getting fed up with how toxic Team Frye were getting on Twitter (telling people to report Shiver splatfest posts, people purposefully disconnecting in the first minute of a 100x battle if they had a bad start) so I find it a little funny they came last. I hope she gets a better theme in the next Fest

Shiver winning again is annoying, but I think she probably is best suited to be the leader. Big Man, beloved as he is, is talented at spinning and making friends but probably not organisation 😅

The hosts are an absolutely huge problem in Splatoon 3.

In Splatoon 1, we had the most even split from the two. Callie and Marie are incredibly strong designs, and because they are so similar, you had a pretty close split. Really, the personalities were, outgoing and charming, or witty and mysterious. It worked honestly.

Then Splatoon 2 came in, and each region had their clear favorite. The west loved Marina, and Japan loves pearl. It created a pretty great underdog story for Pearl especially in the west. And especially as her character got fleshed out, she had some great fans. It's honestly a great underdog story.

Then Splatoon 3 comes along. Shiver clearly has the coolest design of the 3, and you have Big Man as that underdog who's happy to be there. And then you have Frye. She's not even well liked enough to be an underdog. She's kind of unlikable. Shivers personality is just cool, Big Man is the nicest guy to ever exist. Frye is honestly like that annoying cousin someone brings to the party and you have to deal with it.

So this game has 3 ranked modes in rotation at all times now? That's a nice change. There will always be a mode I like in the rotation in that case.

Big man is nakedest though.

Also spicy lost to sweet, which is the only splatfest Frye has won

I feel like everyone here being like "Shiver is the hottest/most leaderlike/coolest" is forgetting one important thing.

Her design is inspired by traditional Japanese culture.

Guess where a Huge chunk of the playerbase is from.

I'll be sure to bring it up next time you moan about turf war that the Japanese player base are largely fine with that as a competitive mode too, regularly having it in their tournaments, since being a disproportionately large chunk of the player base then, if this is a justification for anything outside of Japan not mattering.

I actually prefer Frye theme, especially her musical influence/inspiration. And I like her personality better too. Plus, her boss fight was the best out of the 3: the action, the music, the spectacle 👌🏻✨

Could have fooled me with that 17%. During the whole weekend I only had 3 mirror matches and the rare/uncommon team was Big Man.

Shiver is obviously very popular in Japan, but she also got 55% of the vote worldwide in a 3-way vote, she's popular everywhere.

I will still pick the less popular team in the next Splatfest because I still haven't gotten the gold idol badges (I only won five x10 battles by the end). Sure it's basically a matter of preference, but I think that picking the less popular team has a higher chance in encountering an opposing team, and thus a x10 battle.

But man... it certainly feels like the other two sides are unwise to pick if one side is very clearly dominating. And I don't think the final Splatfest would be any different at all at this rate, even though Splatoon 1 and 2 have surprising "final" results.

Thank you for reading.

Gonna take this seriously for a moment even if it doesn't feel like I should.

-One of my main issues with being forced to play Turf War is that it has poor matchmaking. In Japan this is mitigated by the fact that there's a large pool of players nearby to choose from, meaning you get matched with players closer to your skill level.

-They regularly have it in their tournaments because Nintendo decides so. Even if it's more accepted than in the west, most of the Japanese competitive playerbase largely prefers Splat Zones.

-A large chunk of the player base is Japanese, I don't see how that's a controversial statement whatsoever. I'm just giving a justification for Shiver's huge vote percentage in the Splatfest. I never said things outside Japan don't matter.

It is hard to beat Shiver's sexy hair-covering-one-eye look, which IS the best look.
Tho really, Splatoon 4 should go back to just 2 hosts.
Maybe like, have one of them be a pretty boy this time. I mean, Big Man IS the big man himself.
But still

This might also explain why the net code is allowed to be in the state it’s in. I’m wondering based on what I saw this weekend if I was getting matched with people further away in the US which was resulting in some obviously laggy moments.

Although it also could just be my ISP. I was seeing some weird connection issues with websites for part of the weekend too.

This is 100% part of it. The netcode in most Nintendo games works perfectly fine in densely populated areas with strong internet connections.

And that's why it's never too late to use your special (unless it's impossible to get off in time like Booyah Bomb)

Not a particularly surprising result. Wish I could’ve played for Team Frye, but life got in the way.

Wonder if they’ll do anything to adjust Splatfests in the future, because right now it’s hard to imagine Shiver ever losing.

Speaking of netcode, I'm extremely tired of the distance between players being so deceiving in this game. It has become so common to die from a short range shooter because apparently they were closer than your screen showed. Or how a player with +10 AP of Run Speed Up appears sliding through the stage cause the game can't keep up with everything going on (same for Swim Speed Up).

I love my Switch, but I'm ready for new hardware so it allows the developers to update the code/tick rate.

Played Splatoon 3 again finally. Netcode and matchmaking feels worse? And getting into a game is ridicoulous. I am not sure whats going on as games like Naruto Shinobi Striker I can sometimes get in games faster than Splat3. Keep in mind Shinobi Striker is buggy and has a much lower active population; it should not in any way occasionally beat Splatoon's wait times.

Crablegs is a great map but it feels bittersweet. Becuase the whiplash from going to a well designes map to a tunnel vision map is brutal. It also made me realized that maps is like 70%+ of the pie that has made me play this game less. I probaly could deal with the weapon balance and mediocre QoL if the maps were good. Someone pointed out I had a big grin on my face when I played Crab Legs for the first time, cant say that for other maps.

vJet after its buffs feels fine. I like it in Zones but thats about it. Needs a few more tweaks and I think its gonna be nice.

Heavy Edit, I like and may end up the weapon I play the most as its the right type of tweaks I want in a Splattling as a player that mainly played Heavy Splattling. I struggle with Heavy Edit in Zones though, havnt figured out why yet.

The Splatfest did nothing for me. I think if the choices arnt something Im passionate about, Ima keep skipping em. I wish they maybe threw challenges or something in them. I just dont care for vanilla turf war.

I started doing better again after my break from Splatoon once I remembered to backpedal against Clash Blasters like they have Pro range and against Pros like they are Squeezers. Also, if you think you spot an opportunity to jump someone because they're not looking at you, they're probably looking at you right this
very moment.

Only I have no confidence anything about this will change with new hardware.

I mean, I’m Team Big Man all day long (just look at that cute face!) but I needed wanted the couple of extra shells, so went with Shiver figuring she would win. 🤣 I feel bad for Frye fans though. She’s adorable and deserves more love/another win.

Hahaha! I do the same: equipping RSU + backpedaling with the Jet Squelcher. I have to tell myself sometimes: WALK BACKWARDS!
I'm always particularly wary (afraid >_<) of blasters, splatanas and splatlings when it comes to distance. I'm expecting (hoping for) a Heavy Edit nerf in the next update :p

Basically I have to play with this always on my mind:

So, what are the chances of they ever fixing Manta Maria spawn point? Enemy can access the little square platform and no amount of shield will protect you from a bomb. And that upper area is supposed to be a safe point to jump to base or out danger quickly, but it doesn't work if the enemy is camping there.

Something - many things - about this game's match-making are borked beyond belief. Three losses in a row, three times in tossed me in with the exact same teammates, and it was a double backline no front comp against balanced opponents to boot.

Was this last night? Because this was my exact experience its very very frustrating.

Earlier today. Though not so early that there were possibly only 7 other people in my region playing Splatoon at the time.

Did you drop out of the group between losses?

Sure did. But whenever I decide to continue playing with a group it's actually rare all four of stick together for three matches.

That’s crazy! Usually when I hit a three loss streak I’ll drop out of the group because it’s a sign something isn’t gelling. I’ve yet to get regrouped with the same squad when that happens.
