StarTopic Splatoon 3 |ST| The Mammal with the Three Golden Eggs (Frostyfest Announced!)

It's nice that Team Ghost wins, but I wondered if the ordering of the Splatfest teams were originally different. I can totally see Skeleton or Ghost being assigned to Shiver originally for example, until the results spoke for themselves that one side is dominating before this one so they had to change it around. Or maybe the question was entirely different before that.

Thank you for reading.

Unlikely that bigman was ever assigned a different team for this one, given his very obvious themed costume.

If Skeleton had the least votes, why did I get so many Skeleton vs Skeleton matches? Rigged!!!
I know that you weren't serious about the rigged bit, but:
I suspect that It's actually for a mathematical reason; there would have been ~3 times as many skeleton Vs ghost/zombie Vs ghost matches as skeleton Vs zombie if things were completely random, which would mean purely counting clout, ghost would essentially automatically win if things were just randomly distributed. We don't actually know what the server is doing behind the scenes but I have to assume they try and get roughly the same number of matches for each of the 3 counted combinations, which means that a chunk of the time it going to have to force you in to fighting your own team when there's disparity, and that'll happen often if there's 3 team ghosts looking for a battle for every team zombie/skeleton, since a zombie Vs skeleton was presumably harder to find at any given time.

Only losing Tricolor by that little on that map is actually a triumph for Team Skeleton. Frye got screwed by the rare unbalanced-in-favor-of-the-attackers Tricolor round.

I did my best for all my fellow skelepeeps out there. So close yet so far.

EDIT: (this might be the most I've ever lost during a splatfest. Sorry. 💀💀💀)

Damn. Wish I had more time during the tricolor portion, I was doing pretty well there (on team skeleton), went 4-1 in non-mirrors (including a defender win with only one ultra signal given up - to zombie, no less). Shame I never saw a 10x or 333x, but that's to be expected in only 5 potential matches.

aren't roles evenly assigned now?
The way the scores are multiplied by being worth 1.5 times in the specified attacker/defender combination means those completely define who wins the tricolour mode, regardless.
I'd be curious so see how often someone from ghost got defender in valid matches. Due to the crazy population skew, I wouldn't be shocked if there were enough ghost defender matches to counteract the multiplier.

Not gonna lie, the way Splatfest works with the whole clout thing seems so odd to me. If it's based on the average clout per player, isn't it kinda just gonna... average out and be nearly random which teams win the clout-based categories? At least win% in Splatoon 1 and early Splatoon 2 gave a clear edge to the "better" team, but here it just feels like you're competing for which team can play the most...

Hmm - I hadn't thought about the implications of this with three teams.

Clout is only accumulated in non-mirror matches, so even in later Splatoon 2 it was correlated to wins, since both teams played in the same amount of counted matches (and wins are worth way more clout than losses). But now the most popular team theoretically has the most chances for clout.

That's not the way it worked out this time. The only battle category the popular team won was the one that requires all three teams for the clout to count. Still, that may why we've seen so many pure sweeps recently.

Personally I'll never understand the desire to make Splatfest results "matter". It is what it is. There's no way to make an abstract competition in which millions of people participate in a miniscule fraction feel both fun and fair. The system they have now is the best for rewarding all types of play (albeit still only in turf)

If everyone played the same amount of time the smaller teams should earn more clout per player than the larger teams in Open and Pro because they will not waste time playing mirror matches that don't reward any clout. In practice it has generally appeared that the larger teams have played longer per player to offset that natural disadvantage. Why that's happened is anyone's guess.

Clouts basically counting the same thing as wins, but even more granularly since the amount you win by also counts.

Nah, they're absolutely restricting the number of non-mirror matches that teams get so they are roughly equal even if they won't say it out loud. If that wasn't the case, it'd be impossible for a result like this time where a team with literally triple the other teams members could have ever fallen behind.

I don't think it is per player; I think it's just total clout, or at least it was in 2 when that was objectively fair. It's less clear now with three teams, but I think @Linkstrikesback has the right idea with "real" matches being closely monitored by the matchmaking algorithm to be roughly equal for each team.

What's more annoying than a match getting called off 57 seconds into it, with the timer ticking down into the sixties, because someone DC'd?

When the DC was on your side, the remaining three team members are fully up and in position and close to specials while the opponents are on a 2-2 stagger.

I've decided to give the Gear Seed Checker a try, and I must say... the next Jackpot is very far away! The special title is 122 capsules away. While I already got this season's special titles I was hoping to see a previous one. Maybe next season, I guess.

I don't think I have seen the golden banner in the list so I guess I can't be getting the next one any time soon.

Thank you for reading.

I can't believe it took almost 4 hours for a Horrorboros to make an appearance last night. 4 FREAKING HOURS! And you know for what? 12 bronze scales, despite defeating it with 30 seconds to spare. There is something sooooo ridiculous wrong with the rewards, odds and odor systems 😤

I love this game, but, sometimes....

These are always fun to watch.
I've had some odd ones too that makes you think "Do you even online, gaim?" :p

You can do your dailies and save that 122nd pull for next season's titles. This season's were really plain/boring.

I honestly stopped truly caring about collecting everything a while ago. If it's within reach, cool, will try. If not, no sweat. #NoMoreFOMO :p

Friends is there any datamines as to what's coming? I've been playing a bit recently after not for months and it just made me realise how little the game has changed since I last played it (since they're only doing seasonal updates this time around). Only two king salmonoids in salmon run and only a few stages, I wanna know what's coming in December

Not much

There are 2 specials, smoke wall (throwing a couple walls which damage and track enemies who swim through them) and pogo (possibly similar to splashdown) and Bluefin Depot is likely to return from Splatoon 1. There are some other very vague things that aren't worth mentioning

So, how did you fare on the last Eggstra Work?
I finally got the Top 5% badge by a hair (206 eggs), thanks to a couple of friends whom I joined for a bit (they had already practiced a lot, their record was 221).

First time I got silver for Eggstra Work. Gold is nowhere in sight because the teammates are not exactly the most optimal bunch (because they're random).

Thank you for reading.

🤣

Why?
I HATE Spawning Grounds, but knowing where the enemies would come from + fun weapons made it bearable.

Bearable is not good enough when the reward for bearing it is a badge. I dislike Spawning Grounds less than most, but a mode about team optimization through grinding the same gameplay over and over where your pick-up group may break up any time isn't something I care to invest time in.

I got my first silver so I'm satisfied. Gold seems about impossible in Eggstra Work without a coordinated team.

I also finished my quest for this season, collecting a badge for every weapon class. Thank god for Painbrush or that never would have happened. When I started the season I thought it would be a terrible grind with 6 badges to collect but it was actually a nice change of pace

Very tired of Turf War matches where I'm literally the only player in the match playing the objective, and the other 7 players are hopping around each other.

I wonder if NA will get its own splatfest announced later too or if they'll share Europe's theme

Would the Splatfest region matter for different ones this time around? If Japan gets to have the special Splatfest of their own from the rest of the world, it feels like a missed opportunity especially for the HK/SK region.

Thank you for reading.

JP Splatfest context: It's about a popular Japanese desert that's called different names depending on your region/store, so it's asking "what do you call this?" with 3 options.

I'm actually sad we're going back to global dividers since as an Australian, I tend to be paired with a lot of Japanese teammates who play well, there's also way more of them to play with. I have very short wait times for most Splatfests even when I play late, RIP.
But I'm going Team Hug! Me and my friends always open with that when we see each other.

I would really like to have a region specific Splatfest for the German speaking countries. There are many words that mean the same thing but are different in Austria, Germany and Switzerland.

This one will be an easy BIG MAN SWEEP

I'm struggling to think of an English equivalent with 3 options. The only one I know is the classic American English dialect poll question, the space in between the road and sidewalk, with parkway, greenway, and [I don't have a word for this].

Kinda wanna see Shiver win this one for the US just so I can see the chaos of a Shiver Splatfest win without the excuse of the Japanese playerbase pumping up the numbers

Seems like the competitive Splatoon 3 peeps are kinda maybe slowly coming around to my low tier scrub opinion that Tacticooler makes the game dumber?

I still think it's a nice special for the pace of the game but I don't like the reason it's at the top (countermeasure for too many things that can very quickly kill you with no chance to fight back)

[Splatoon 3]

Nintendo will release a beta version of Tournament Manager later this month. It will support elimination format tourneys.

The full launch will be in Dec, with support for round-robin tourneys.

Support for Swiss tourneys will be added later.

(thanks @asasasa98765)

Anything that negates the penalty for dying will always have this potential to lead to dumb and unhealthy metas. Single slayers running the QR gimmick is about as far I can extend my tolerance for those strategies. I get Tacticooler makes matches faster and more actiony, but Splatoon is plenty fast and actiony already, to the point where I doubt the ability of casual viewers to follow what's going on during a tournament match in real time.

My partner tried out Splatoon 3 for the first time today and she already has concerns about the matchmaking and connection issues.

On the other hand, hey, I might get back to the game for a bit!

Oh no, Fyre is one of those types…

Fyre: Clearly you’ve never cooked with an Air Fryer!

At last, I gotten 999 in Sockeye Station! I couldn't have done it without it being Random Rare, and barely too! I managed to get a good team at 820 points, and then we plow through the shifts until the last one. The last one had an unfortunate disconnect in wave 3 (leaving only 3 people), but the round is Giant Tornado, which is manageable but we barely made it through (28/26 in final round). Now I got a shiny golden Sockeye Station badge!

The same thing happened to me in wave 3 of the very last shift (I was at 990 VP). There were ~10 seconds left and suddenly I couldn't pick and throw more eggs and the other players' eggs weren't being added to the total. I panicked because I was so tired already (it was like 3:30am) and I just wanted to stop playing.

How long did it take you to reach 999?
I started around 12:20pm and finished at 3:30am of the next day (I didn't play non-stop, but I was mostly free the whole Saturday).
The last time I reached 999 I said to myself I wouldn't try again because of the time commitment, but 🤡

I did only reach 999 for one other map (Jammin' Salmon Junction), which I thought would've been the last of it because of how much time commitment it required but somehow I did it again. I think it helps that the final stretch was smooth-sailing thanks to savvy players, when my second run was a slog because the players weren't as savvy.

Thank you for reading.
