It's a stereotyping issue, mostly thinking about blackface with the bright red lipstick. It'd be fine if rival octolings already had bright pink lips, but they felt the need to add it to the design alongside making them black

Interpretating any kind of black face sterotype in that design is some serious stretch.

I see what you mean, but I have a harder time interpreting that as black face.

I just thought they’re black, not painted black…

I asked because I thought it could be some kind of stereotype I’m not familiar with about black women wearing pink lipstick.

I seriously hope that not all Enemy Octolings are black, though.

And somehow people almost were up in arms because Twintelle, a black woman with bright red lips, didn't get into Smash...

On the other hand, deciding for others whether something should be seen as racist should also not be okay.

Remember the Mexican Mario stereotype for Odyssey? Most Mexican people liked it as representation of their country in a Mario game, while non Mexican people were complaining about it being racist. So in the end Nintendo decided to remove Mexican Mario from the box art for Odyssey. This made many Mexican people sad, instead of happy.

Besides, up until now all enemy Octolings have been white. (Except for the green ones from Octo Expansion) Quickly reading some replies on Twitter I saw some black people being happy with the representation. Wouldn't a mix of skin tones be for the better?

I'm not quite a fan of this conscious change to make them all black. Their fits are a nice upgrade though, I'll give them that.

If they had a variety of skin tones that would be better.

Splatoon 3 launches in exactly 3 months (only 91 days). We are so close and yet so far. It's still a bummer that it launches in September instead of the usual Summer spot since Splatoon really is a Summer vibe game. Sit tigh, we are close.

Kinda wish we didn't have to fight Octarians again for the fourth time.

The new enemy Octoling designs seem to be an explicit reference to gyaru subculture with the makeup, leopard print, fur, etc.

I know it's not Splatoon 3, but the finals on every second day of all 4 of these tournaments will be streamed. There's potential for news showcases there

Those pants look like they are the same colour as the Inkling/Octoling colour, so I guess the colour's not completely customisable (so it's either team colour or black).

Given the theme of this game so far is about "3", with things like Tri-zooka and Triple Inkstrike, I wonder if we will have a new species to play as. I guess they won't reveal it until an inevitable Direct (or equivalent), assuming there will be.

Nogami should make a Twitch account, playing Splat3 with other Splatoon leads, and ocasionally inviting people like Miyamoto, Aonuma, Takahashi and others to play against them. It's pros vs casuals.

I know, I know the game is still 2.5 months away and Splat2 had two test fires one right after Switch released in March 2017 and the second 2 weeks before the game launched. But this would be just amazing "So what do you think? Splatoon 3 launches in September, please wait just a little bit longer and well actually to shorten the wait there is a Splatoon 3 Test Fire and you can play it right after this presentation.

I wonder if new footage of the single player compaign will make be interested in 3. I played 1 and 2 to death and new maps and weapons are not enough to justify a purchase. A single player campaign just consisting of small independent levels without a recurring theme or overworld won't cut it either.

Blasters are revealed for this week's weapon type, showcasing the Range Blaster and the Luna Blaster. The wording implies that the blaster is its own class, but I could just be looking too deeply. For those unaware, in both Splatoon 1 and 2, the Blaster weapons are considered shooters despite having a unique stat exclusive to it (Impact as opposed to Damage), and its animations also follow that of the shooter. If it is its own class, it would be a nice upgrade because despite controlling like a shooter, it plays different from it.

Of note is how the Luna Blaster sports translucent colour shells like the Splattershot Jr.:

We are due for some big news in early July probably. Since I really doubt the are waiting for Splatoon 3 Direct in August to reveal everything about the game, or there will do one in July, who knows.
