I like Shadow, but I wish he was playable outside a few select stages. Maybe the next Smash Bros. game? I really struck out with Ultimate.

The story centers around Sonic and friends as their universe is thrown into chaos when a new threat appears, taking them on a journey through time and dimensions. Players can experience this adventure again with upgraded visuals, new challenges, and more bonus content!
You stop that.generations is older than SA2 was when generations came out
wow
The way they worded it makes it sound like the Shadow content will be as big as the main game. "Play Shadow Generations and we'll throw in Sonic for shits and giggs"Official PR:
Sonic adventure and adventure two we’re already HD remastered for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3, the Xbox 360 versions are available for purchase and playable on current Xbox systems. They’re still great!DEAH TO ALL WHO OPPOSE ME

Speaking of Shadow the Hedgehog (the game), was not expecting that horrendous logo to return, nor seeing Black Doom
Same here! Makes me hype.

Also, am I the only one that thinks that these assets could be used for a hypothetical Adventure 2 HD Remaster?
Why not both? Sonic Adventure 2 HD Remaster is a matter of when, I believe
I wish sonic team didn’t care about “the timeline”There's no Classic Shadow :<
Yeah there is, the Biolizard is right there in the trailer. There's no Classic Shadow :<
welp there it is, thanks! On the wishlist it goes i spose.Seems to be a seperate Steam store page and has support for more languages including a JP logo, which Sonic Generations doesn't have on Steam cause it didn't release there. Seems to be a redo of the Steam port, for better (the Steam port is OLD and could really use a refresh for modern hardware to not rely on fan patches so much) or worse (will most likely break mods and also have Denuvo which won't really affect modding but will affect performance)
Just have to wait like a week to see if Sega announces the 2011 PC version of Gens will be delisted or not, like what happened with Origins.
Is it confirmed he won’t be playable in the main stages?I like Shadow, but I wish he was playable outside a few select stages. Maybe the next Smash Bros. game? I really struck out with Ultimate.
lMAOO you're right xDYeah there is, the Biolizard is right there in the trailer.
I think his moveset is so different he wouldn’t work. He has many chaos abilities in the trailerIs it confirmed he won’t be playable in the main stages?
True but they could always reuse the model for more appropriate gameplay. Guessing that is unlikely though.I think his moveset is so different he wouldn’t work. He has many chaos abilities in the trailer
At what point does liking Shadow (the character and/or game) ironically stop being ironic? Asking for a friend...
People who were 10 when SA2 came out are in their 30s now. We are the generation who grew up on Linkin Park. Liking Shadow as a character is who we are whether we want to admit it or not.At what point does liking Shadow (the character and/or game) ironically stop being ironic? Asking for a friend...
If you follow the game lore that's technically incorrectlMAOO you're right xD
Tho in my mind I told myself: well, there's only been one Shadow since ever, so he's technically his own classic version
I think a middle ground is possible, though, and it was reached by Sonic Adventure and Sonic Unleashed. Those games had high stakes, characters that took themselves and the sorrounding events seriously and - at least in SA case - meaningful connections to the established lore.I’m so sick of the Saturday morning cartoon stories that make fun of themselves and disregard the lore of past games. I just want interconnected story arcs again, with characters and stories that actually take themselves seriously. I don’t care how ridiculous it comes across to most people—I’ll take a game that takes itself seriously, anthropomorphic hedgehogs and all, over one that makes unfunny meta jokes instead and throws out the established lore any day.
The physics are broken. It’s a big issue actually. Almost as much as heroes’ chaos emerald challenge stagesSonic adventure and adventure two we’re already HD remastered for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3, the Xbox 360 versions are available for purchase and playable on current Xbox systems. Yep, shadow is from a time where characters like vegeta, and sora in his nightmare before Christmas outfit REALLY spoke to a certain crowd (me, I was in that crowd, watching amv’s)People who were 10 when SA2 came out are in their 30s now. Like it or not, those things are already established in the lore, and I’d rather games actually acknowledge that than throw out the lore and pretend the events of past games didn’t happen. I’m glad the whole “two worlds” idea has finally been retired because it makes no sense to say “actually, there are two worlds, a human world and a nonhuman world where characters like Sonic come from” when no game ever shows this and it’s honestly even more ridiculous than Sonic characters and humans coexisting on the same planet.I think a middle ground is possible, though, and it was reached by Sonic Adventure and Sonic Unleashed. Adventure 2, Shadow and 06 try too hard with the military, the President, Marie dying of not-AIDS, guns...
Adventure also references CD with the Amy's flashback and has a dialogue mentioning Little Planet (though it was lost in translation).Like it or not, those things are already established in the lore, and I’d rather games actually acknowledge that than throw out the lore and pretend the events of past games didn’t happen. And, as you pointed out yourself, Unleashed did not really have meaningful connections to the established lore. Adventure kind of did (though mostly in that future games connected to it, but I won’t fault it for not being able to take much from previous games besides a bit from Sonic 3 & Knuckles because the Genesis Sonic games really didn’t have much in the way of story at all), but Unleashed was extremely self-contained in a way that Sonic games hadn’t been for years before then. It took itself seriously…for the most part…yes, but it absolutely felt different from what had come before it, and not in a good way to me. From that game on, until Frontiers, nothing really felt like it ever mattered in Sonic games anymore, and I hated that. The most we got was the recurrence of Wisps after Colors.
I mean the adventure era was literally peak Saturday morning cartoons lol. Heck 4kids dubbed them for a timePart of why this is so exciting to me is because Shadow the Hedgehog represents the peak of the Sonic series to me, at least narratively. I sorely miss the GameCube era Sonic games that actually took themselves seriously and had story arcs connecting the games. This more or less started with Sonic Adventure, but especially with Sonic Adventure 2 and Shadow’s introduction. Shadow became a big part of every console Sonic game since then, up until Sonic ’06 after which he pretty much disappeared entirely (along with most other Sonic characters besides Sonic himself). Sonic Adventure 2 introduced us to Shadow, and seemingly killed him off. Sonic Heroes dealt with Shadow having survived and his memory loss, and set up the Shadow android stuff. Shadow the Hedgehog covered, well, a lot, including showing us his true origins, and wrapping up the memory loss and Shadow android plot threads. And while I can’t comment much on Sonic ’06 due to never being able to play it myself, it was the last game to prominently feature Shadow and take itself seriously. Plus you can throw in Sonic Battle (and, by extension, Sonic Advance 3) and Sonic Chronicles, too, as both of those games also delved into the Professor Gerald stuff more. There was Episode Shadow in Sonic Forces as well, I guess, which hardly counts but it was the first time Shadow was in the spotlight again since 2006, so it was nice to have regardless. But really, Sonic games haven’t had sincere, connected storylines like that for, like 15 years, and Shadow was the one constant that was present back when that was a thing. Sonic Frontiers was literally the first Sonic game in ages to actually make a genuine effort to acknowledge the series’ lore and do something meaningful with it. The fact that we’re now getting a new Shadow game like this as well is pretty much the best possible news I could get regarding the Sonic series. I’ve wanted this for so, so long now. I’m so sick of the Saturday morning cartoon stories that make fun of themselves and disregard the lore of past games.
The tone is part of what I loved about it, though. It was a stark contrast to what you’d find in, say, Mario, and I think that worked in its favor. I mean, it’s no secret that Sonic Adventure 2 is one of the most popular Sonic games—if not THE most popular Sonic game—so plenty of people love it, tone and all. I will agree that some games took it further than they should have, like Shadow the Hedgehog could have done without all the guns, and Sonic ‘06 shouldn’t have made the humans look even more realistic, including Eggman, but overall it didn’t bother me much. Honestly, the tone of the Adventure games is the best in the series, to me.Adventure also references CD with the Amy's flashback and has a dialogue mentioning Little Planet (though it was lost in translation).
The "two world" idea was a complete non-sense, I 100% agree, and so is pretending that past games didn't happen or characters never existed. My problem is not with those concepts per se, but with the overall "tone" of the 00s games. I fell the tone of Adventure 2 and Shadow is wrong both at an estethic level with realistic weapons and humans, and at a narrative level with Marie's backstory and the melodramatic Shadow.
I think it's better for the Sonic series to distance itself from this tone, but without going in the opposite polar direction (as Colors and the following games did), or pretending those games never existed. Like, I would be fine with the President showing up again with the style of Unleashed human (updated to 2024 CG standard, of course) to give Sonic & friends some random missions.
By “Saturday morning cartoon” I mean not taking itself seriously at all. In other words, being more like, say, Sonic Boom than Sonic X. The latter is fine by me, but the former is not what I want from Sonic at all, and it’s not how the modern Sonic games used to be at all either until around Sonic Colors (though the first signs of it started with Unleashed).I mean the adventure era was literally peak Saturday morning cartoons lol. Heck 4kids dubbed them for a time
Forces did in some ways, yes, but it was weirdly mixed with the unserious tone of Colors onward at the same time (probably due to it being from the same writers). Frontiers was a lot more subdued (boss fights aside, lol), but nonetheless still took itself seriously and, more importantly here in comparison to Forces, actually revisited lore from past games in a meaningful way, which Forces didn’t really do. Like, yes, a lot of it was just references, but there was also some pretty big plot details that had ties to things from past games, like Chaos! And we see an ancient structure that Professor Gerald clearly modeled the ARK after! Not to mention giving us a backstory for the Chaos Emeralds on top of that stuff! Like, that’s pretty exciting shit, especially when we’ve gotten practically nothing like that from the series in ages!I think Forces is the only game since the Gamecube era to come close to matching that more serious but still fun tone. Frontiers basically had nothing going on at all.
Forces wasn't any more tonally inconsistent than Adventure, Adventure 2, or Shadow the Hedgehog in my opinion. It did suffer from not having a bigger budget to flesh out the story beats though. I'm not sure what you mean by Frontiers having more lore. Forces has tons of lore, is a direct sequel to another game in the series and a culmination of a long running story line, and also features Chaos. More than random lore drops that exist to try and desperately make the game somewhat interesting, Forces is also tonally consistent with past Sonic games. It really feels like a celebration of Sonic's entire past (even the "x the Hedgehog" phenomenon) in a way that Frontiers doesn't come close to doing.Forces did in some ways, yes, but it was weirdly mixed with the unserious tone of Colors onward at the same time (probably due to it being from the same writers). He puts hot sauce in everything for a reason.Shadow the Hedgehog is the antithesis of irony. He is 100% genuine in his brand of hottopic nonsense in a medium oozing with cynicism about anything sincere.
All hail Shadow.
Despite Forces attempting to be serious, it didn’t really feel serious or genuine at all because it didn’t really respect the world or its characters. Like, Tails was completely mischaracterized, for example. And what I mean about lore is that it doesn’t really do anything with prior game lore (beyond Wisps), except for the virtual clones, which, like Classic Sonic, are just kinda thrown in to be like a Generations kind of thing again but they ultimately don’t matter to the plot or anything, and they’re not even the real characters, anyway. And even then they’re kind of a disappointment, like how Chaos is defeated in a cutscene…by being jumped on by Classic Sonic. Like, don’t get me wrong, it’s certainly better than what came before from Colors through Lost World in terms of story, but it just doesn’t feel serious or genuine (there’s another word that I’m looking for that’s even better to describe what I mean but I can’t for the life of me remember it right now, lol) at all—probably because of the Happy Tree Friends writers that were still in charge of the games at the time. I say this as someone who really likes Forces, by the way. But despite that, it still felt off, and in ways beyond just being terribly low budget (but that was no doubt a big part of things, too).Forces wasn't any more tonally inconsistent than Adventure, Adventure 2, or Shadow the Hedgehog in my opinion. It's nice to see more of that actual celebration of the series come back with this new Shadow project, I just hope it's more than a few minutes long.
