after of what seems to be the steam rolling success of Metroid Dread. would you like Mercury Stream (now with better experience and Knowledge in the genre), go full cycle and be back to make a new Castlevania game?? (not like Lords of Shadows games)

I'd like to see MercurySteam work on either StarTropics 3 or some sort of Eternal Darkness game. But I wouldn't say no to MercurySteam Castlevania either.

I'd have to assume that the reason Metroid Dread was so good was partially due to Nintendo guidance throughout development even if MercurySteam devs were the main designers on it.

I also have my doubts Konami would give as big of a budget for Castlevania as Nintendo does for Dread so I wouldn't expect similar results.

Overall I'd much prefer MercurySteam keeps working with Nintendo since this seems to work really well for the two companies

I want them to keep co-developing with EPD7 leads, but this time doing Wario Land (since the EPD7 leads who work on Samus Returns and Dread all worked on Wario Land, including the director of those two games, Takehiko Hosokawa, also directed Wario Land 1, 2, 3 and VB.

I'm sure Mercury Steam could also nail a more silly/over the top art style. And their excellent level design and action/movement pacing would work wonder on Wario.

I don't think they fit the bill for a series like castlevania. I didn't like the direction of lords of shadows either so i'd say stick with metroid which they seem to get right. Castlevania has a very japanese style to it I think?

MercurySteam credits Nintendo's oversight and support as a major factor in the quality of the Metroid games they worked on. Having a publisher interested in making a showpiece title instead of just filling out the year's catalogue is important.

Quoting myself from another thread :

Do someone think we can have a somehow similar case to Bayonetta where Nintendo would team up with Mercury Steam (with the permission of Konami) to make Castlevania Lords of Shadow 3 a thing ?

The benefits would be :

An exclusive Castlevania game and the whole Lord of Shadow series going forward.
But as MisterSpo said below, Metroid will probably be the priority...

Anyway, I'm am longing for a new Castlevania game, and in a perfect world, it would be a ClassicVania.

As long as Konami isn't willing to "hold hands" like Nintendo probably did, no, not at all.

In the end, it *might* have been a better game than whatever the in-house Konami reboot is going to end up. Though that might not be a difficult thing to achieve.

Yes they deserve another change now imo personally i loved the LoS series, but with what they learned and achieved from metroid they are able for sure to make a well liked castlevania game.

what IF, Nintendo talks with Konami?? Bayonetta 2 style situation?
I mean, with all the rumors around of "Sony is Reviving Silent Hill", Konami seems likely to "lend" their IPs, and right now im sure they are in super good standing with Nintendo after the success of Train Simulator Super Boogaloo in Japan

Castlevania in the style of metroidvania is unnecessary because those games exist, they've just got a changed name. Iga is doing great work covering both Igavania and classic style castlevania with Bloodstained, and there's very little to be gained that quite frankly, I think his company can do the legacy of Castlevania better than anyone stuck under konami could.

Despite being a massive fan of the series at least since the GBA onwards, the series brand isn't important, the people who made those games are, and we're still being served on that front.

Regardless though, Nintendo would never give up first rights to Mercury Steams time now, certainly not for whatever Konami would reasonably offer.

"MercurySteam is working on fucking Wario"

I can see it clearly.

Isn’t there already a rumor that says a new Castlevania is in development?

If I was Nintendo and I wanted an 'exclusive castlevania', I'd definitely approach Iga first at any rate and see if he's willing to accept financial/development support on Bloodstained 2 for exclusivity long before approaching Konami at any rate.

Speaking as a big fan of Castlevania who has played all the IGA entries, why does Nintendo need that kind of game when they already have Metroid?

The Igavanias definitely scratch a different itch to me than the metroid games do. I suppose if I was doing the devils advocate thing, the argument I would make is you can perhaps extend both series sales potential and lifespan before burning them out in the public eye by alternating between them, and maybe even that'd be more exciting for the developers at mercury steam than being turned solely in to a 2D metroid machine.

This is why I would like a ClassicVania game.
PS : I always found Igavania entries to be mediocre (except the music and ambiance), and I speak as someone who holds this franchise close to his heart since the first time I played Castlevania on the NES back in 1988.

Okay, admitedly the RPG elements give Castlevania a different angle and I could see Nintendo hiring IGA to do their own take on it. Lord knows that the man has more experience with Nintendo hardware than with anything else anyway.

I can't agree with this.

Before the studios.unification, Castlevania wasn't handled by a single studio or producer, everyone did their own thing wich resulted in an incredible series with lots of artistic and Gameplay variety while keeping the same base concepts. That got lost when the series was given in exclusive to Igarashi.

LoS was a ballsy return to that, putting the series in the hands of a studio that had their own vision of the series, and out of three games they developed, two were amazing.

The Bloodstained series is a dissapointment for me and the proof that Igarashi wasn't being shackled by Konami as people said when you pointed at how samey the series has become. Bloodstained has proven that Iga only knows two ways of designing Castlevania games: Castlevania III and Symphony of the Night.

So yeah, i wouldn't mind to have Mercury Steam getting back to the series and using all the experience earned on Metroid, that would be an amazing Castlevania to play

Like all studios that touch Metroid, Mercury Steam is now forbidden to work on any other series or that other series will face the ”fucking” rage of the internet.

Don't really see the point in Nintendo going through Konami to let MercurySteam make a new Castlevania as is being suggested in some posts here. They finally got a developer that can make high quality Metroid games on a somewhat regular basis. They're not going to "waste" that on Castlevania.

In any case, I prefer Metroid to CV so I hope they continue with the former.

If they can manage to somehow handle the development of 2 "AA" games (I hate that terminology), returning back the Castlevania name to the Nintendo family would be very significative in terms of impact.
PS : didn't Mercury Steam develop Spacelords in tandem with LoS 2 ?

They're already working on a second game for 505 and I think they also want to work on original stuff as well.

I liked Mirrors of Fate well enough despite the disappointing map design. So if it would be a 2D Castlevania i would be all for it.

I was going to suggest this, but you've beaten me to it! Dread turned out quite well, but now I'd like to see them tackle a different Nintendo franchise. Time to see what they can do for Nintendo outside of Metroid.

No, because

A) Metroid is much better than the Castlevania Metroidvanias, even if I like them

B) How would we know Konami would show enough interest or support to make it a good game

Frequently a big part of the reason studios are able to flourish under Nintendo is directly because of Nintendo's oversight.

Also I'd prefer if we didn't have another 19 year gap before getting Metroid 6.
