News Pokémon Scarlet and Violet DLC "The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero" announced (UPDATE: Part 2, "The Indigo Disk", coming December 14th)

Steel/Psychic has done okay for Metagross and Solgaleo.

As a general note, I've come to appreciate Game Freak's approach to nerfing and buffing strategies in VGC. I don't know how it hasn't devolved into a tech-countertech-countercountertech-ouroboros yet, but it's been working surprisingly well since I started paying attention to the meta only two or three generations ago.
they started restricting moves last gen. some moves that were ubiquitous had their distribution cut way the hell down. like Toxic and now Scald

The starters all live in Blueberry Academy's Terarium
Upper Hand is Fighting-type and physical, fails if the target is not using a priority move
Psychic Noise is Psychic-type and special
Tachyon Cutter is Steel-type and special, never misses
Thunderclap is Electric-type and special, functions like Sucker Punch
Shaymin is shown to be a returning transfer, which wasn't on the datamined list of Pokédex entries
If Psychic Noise has a reasonable distribution, that would be a game-changer. If it's exclusive and overtuned like Eerie Spell (an attack that reduces PP) then it might not see much use.
These seem like the IoA tutor moves, so I'd expect most Psychic-types + a few sound-associated Pokémon. I would say the main question is going to be the move's base power, since it's not much better than Heal Block if it doesn't do a lot of damage and you need to run actual STAB as well

Yeah, and they're not against hard nerfs like cutting the effectiveness of Intimidate down. It's a good mix, I find.

Personally felt that all starters should've returned in Sword/Shield's expansion as well, but I guess there might be some reason they can't do it. Still, I do wonder if the other starters will have Tera Raids before Indigo Disk. The last one was Rillaboom and nothing else is in the pipeline for starters unless they reuse it. Maybe for Teal Disk, they would add a few starters into the data to provide them through there.

The Psychic attack that blocks healing sounds fun, but it's hard to say how much of an impact it would have. That PP-reduction attack by Galarian Slowking should sound useful, but it's got low PP itself so doesn't seem useful in practice. Now if we can have a Grass attack that does some powerful effect, like I guess a Torment-inducing Grass attack.

Thank you for reading.
None of the other starters are implemented in game as of the latest patch. They could always do it early, but I'm not expecting the rest to show up until The Indigo Disk.

I don't follow competitive stuff super closely, but the changes have been getting more aggressive over time. Game Freak has gotten a lot more comfortable with shaking things up recently, and in particular they seem to have stopped caring as much about "canon breaking" changes (which is also probably why we suddenly started getting new evolutions again, as its been widely suspected that they stopped due to eviolite compatibility).

It wouldn't be. That list is based on Pokédex entries. Probably all legendaries and a decent chunk of mythicals will return that aren't on the list.

one of these days, they'll do a mid-gen balance patch. and then the sun will be blotted out and the rivers run red with blood

I hope that the other starters have some reasonable movepool improvements. Like how in Sword/Shield, Venusaur gotten Earth Power. Likewise, I hope Serperior get some needed movepool improvements like keeping Knock Off, and getting either Heat Wave or Earth Power.

Thank you for reading.

Nahhh Serp is strong enough as is, Game Freak was right to not give it coverage

Terastallization is a pretty big buff in and of itself, giving it consistent options against Steels etc is overkill

Since we seem to be getting the full set of Paradox Beasts and Swords, I wonder if we might get Paradox Keldeo as a mythical. They haven't been doing mythicals as much lately, but that might be a fun way to round out the Swords. If they wanted a Beast counterpart, maybe they could do Celebi or Ho-Oh.

Please turn Meganium into something worth using. Please...

Not going to lie...I'm super hyped for this. Mewtwo raid, all the starters, 200+ Pokemon to catch...I'm part of the problem, but I'm in.

After watching Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, I'm thinking it would be cool to get a Paradox (past) Metagross based on the Antikythera. Essentially the worlds oldest computer.

Regular Metagross is already somewhat based on it, so it could be interesting to see one based on the ancient one.

maybe Klinklang would fit better given all the gearing

I mean Magearna's theme is kind of like this but this could be much better if it's a separate brand new pokémon. Mythical maybe. Steel-Water.

I'm just hoping it's even more ridiculously large somehow
Actually...originally I thought Triceratops for Entei, but now that you mention if it did go over the top, it just straight up rips off Typhlosion's design and has flames coming off its back like the Stegosaurus plates at all times 👀 It already has the spiky plates on its back which I completely forgot about

Literally a two second Google Image search of "Stegosaurus Entei" to find a fan design

I still don't know the answer to this; are both of these postgame DLCs, or can you start them up whenever like you could the Sword & Shield DLCs?
I'm assuming it'll be like SWSH. The first one is accessible early game, while the second is post game. (You can technically go to Crown Tundra anytime, but you're greeted to a level 60s battle as soon as you do)

IIRC there was a shot of a trainer using a Poocheyana in the trailer for Teal Mask, so you can probably do it early on (with important battles requiring you to use the story pokemon so that it isnt a total cakewalk for anyone whos already beaten the game)

Part 1 you can start whenever, Part 2 requires you to finish both Part 1 and the main story

Ah alright, that makes sense, thanks! Hopefully there's not a similar thing to Nurse Joy constantly telling you there's a weird Slowpoke at the train station in Sword & Shield when you have the DLC installed, ha.

Meganium didn't get much new, does it? The minute it was confirmed to get Leaf Guard as its ability, it is already doomed because Sun abilities don't feel as useful as the Rain counterparts. Zarude had a similar issue but a bit worse since Leaf Guard is pretty much what it's stuck with. Hydration might not block status but it is generally more advantageous because you can use Rest without worry. Even Flower Shield is a good fit for Meganium (its pre-evolutions can retain Leaf Guard though).

Actually, when Serperior was revealed it was also not a good look for Meganium because as history has proven, a faster Pokemon will be useful even if the other stats fall a bit short. Like how Infernape is more useful than Blaziken (though at least the latter has a new ability that rectified its speed disadvantage). And then of course there's Contrary. It is the best user of Contrary by far.

Discussion of Cyberpunk 2077 is banned on Famiboards, per our Banned Content List in Research & Development. Please refrain from bringing up the game again. - meatbag, Volcanic Dynamo, Barely Able, xghost777
How did Game Freak go an entire year and two DLCs (that cost $35…) without ever improving the game’s performance outside of putting fewer objects on screen.

Cyberpunk 2077 if it never got patched energy.

This engine is apparently draw call fucked so you like… need to fix that before future games? So you should be updating your code constantly and should be able to apply some of these coding improvements to SV.

… Unless they’re not going to unfuck the engine.

I played with Teal Mask on handheld with very few problems, they only appeared when docked. Guess I'll be playing the second part 100% handheld

While i see coverage from pokemon centric channels, the general nintendo channels seemed to just have a video on the first dlc and done.
Hows the consensus, was it a good dlc, are people hyped for the second? was it meety in size?

Scarlet and Violet have almost 0 interiors, period. I think you can count the number of unique interior spaces on one hand
Yeah, but since it's a new "Academy" I was hopeful it would get some TLC like the main academy.

Seems they said, you don't like the Towns? Ok we will remove them! lol.

I literally only wanted ONE thing out of the DLC.....and the Serebii preview just confirmed we're actually getting it!

The wild battle theme is a remix of Unova's wild battle theme

I had a great time with Violet but the towns were a huge disappointment. Some of the towns/cities have great designs but there's nothing to them at all besides the gym challenges. The first two Pokemon games on the Gameboy have more interesting and enjoyable towns and cities than the ones in Violet for me.

I presume that Part 2 is when we'll get new moves for each type? The ones that are confirmed are Upper Hand (Fighting) and Psychic Noise (Psychic), and the previews mentioned a Steel move Hard Press and presumably Supercharged Cell is Electric.

Thank you for reading.
