I have a random question about persona. I play on hard difficulty. I'm doing the first palace right now. What I'm wondering how important is min maxing in this game when you play on hard? Or could I just do what ever I feel like and have fun?

Because with all the options you have for each day I'm always kinda afraid to fuck something up.

You really don't have to worry about minmaxing, especially not on the first play through. The difficulty through the main campaign remains manageable that you are going to be able to get through it with even a superficial engagement with its mechanics; NG+ introduces some cool challenge fights, which is where actually minmaxing comes into play, but you really don't need to and should not worry about it on the first go. Just go along with the world and do whatever you feel like doing. The one thing I would say you should keep in mind is to prioritize the three confidants I listed in the OP to get the true ending. Other than that, Tokyo's your oyster.

Finally beat that stupid fucking boss by raising the difficulty of all things.
Yep, it's easier on Merciless. Kind of bitchy on Hard. But IMO it's the hardest, worst boss in the entire game, and you're now entering the really good stuff now that he's down, so enjoy!

This came in the mail the other day, probably won't get to it for a bit but very excited to dive in as vanilla P5 is already one of my favorite games and now I can play it portably. Debating playing with the same team as last time or mixing it up, I tend to stick with the same team for a whole RPG.

Thank you thats a relief. Because i really plan to play this game on and off for a long time (im sure it will take me almost a year lol). So if i would have to min max that would really kill the whole game for me.

Persona 4 golden i stopped for that reason as i felt clueless what to do and i also didnt really wanted to invest the time to research it. So 5 right now i just try to really "roleplay" to just do what i feel like doing and at least so far that really works for me. The whole Town and Characters really feel alive for me.

Finishing a palace in the first three days means three weeks of party members doom texting with endlessly replying about how it's gonna be fine.
On the other hand, pacing yourself on the palace completion means being nagged about ignoring the palace on a daily basis 😭

Alright, it's official, Yusuke is my favorite character, this guy somehow constantly makes me laugh or surprises me.

My man just appears out of no where in Hawaii and causally meets the gang when he's supposed to be in Los Angeles lmao

I think his utter and total lack of self awareness is what makes him so amazing lol

Just impulse bought the Switch version on Amazon for 50% off. Should I cancel it and wait for a good digital sale next year? I’ve heard the game can last up to 100 hours, so maybe going digital is better for this kind of game? I know this game has social links so is it kind of like AC where you play a few hours each day to check in?

The game is divided into days but they are not real time. In a given day (story pending) you can basically can do 1 - 2 activities. Once you do that, the day ends and you're onto the next one. You can choose to do activities or hang out with other characters. So it's not anything like Animal Crossing. You can play in short busts or play for 24 hours straight.

Been bludgeoning my way through NG+ and having a blast! Very fun to wipe the palace bosses in the minimum number of turns with my level 98 personas lol. I'm trying to max out all of the confidants on this run since you have so much spare time with your social stats maxed from the outset, it's going well. Just about to start the sixth palace. The challenge battles are really fun! You really need to pay attention to and exploit the modifiers to score well, I've been having a good time puzzling out the best strategies.

What's the easiest to parse resource for checking your compendium against a complete list of personas? I have 91% completion but the game doesn't make it the easiest to see what you have left to get / how you might get there.

Cool, thanks. Guess I'll stick with physical then.

Yeah, he's my fav, too. Guy's just absolutely amazing, especially with some of his weird ramblings being delivered with a straight face. He and Ryuji are the only two characters that had me laughing out loud; for very different reasons, though (laughing at Ryuji for being so plain dumb sometimes, while Yusuke has had me have a hearty laugh every now and then for being a great and weird guy, haha).

I also really like Yusuke's persona and phantom thief outfit, lol.

Back at the start of the Royal semester now, and I just have one thing to say.

The human Morgana is HORRIFYING.

10hs in and I'm liking the game a lot so far.

BUUUUUT wow the story so far is very weird. A lot of super heavy stuff going on and I'm not sure I like the shallow way they are dealing with it.

Aside from that, the game's great. The aesthetic, the dialogues, the environment, the graphics... Everything is amazing so far.

After a bit of a break I've moved on to Strikers - so far I'm having a lot of fun even if I do miss the life sim aspects. I'm really enjoying spending more time with these characters and would honestly even love a 3rd game with the same cast.

Is the Persona 5 Anime any good? I might watch that as a final hurrah when all is said and done.

The difference in vibrancy and colours when playing this on the Switch Oled vs playing it on Steam Deck ... It ain't funny, let me tell you that much. The native res rendering on Deck is appreciated, but holy cow -- does it look muted in comparison, even when using the Decky Vibrancy Plugin. Doesn't do a stylish game like this any favours.

Sorry, Deck, but this is a Switch game for me for sure.

How far in are you? Are you looking to get to the end/the new content? (I can’t remember, did you beat the original?)

I'm only at the second palace now, lol. My progress has slowed down massively due to an almost complete lack of gaming time on my end.

Given that I'm a brainless sucker, I bought the game again on PC just to see how I'd like it on the Deck specifically, haha. Not that I mind owning it on both Switch and Steam just for the sake of it.

And yeah, I definitely want to get to experience the new content. That's the main motivation for me behind buying Royal. I did beat vanilla P5 on PS4 back then, yup. So that makes the new content the main pull for me. I hope to get there by ... the end of 2022, if I had to guess. 😂 Wonder if I'll make it there in time, haha. Had hoped handheld play would help with that to a larger extent, but being so occupied with other stuff doesn't even let me get to that. Booooo.

I also bought it on Steam Deck and Switch (my naive ass thinks double dipping will show Atlus I want P6 on all platforms) and Switch OLED's screen with a stylish game that uses colors like P5R is night and day.

As much as I love the Deck, Switch OLED's screen is just that good. I hardly ever use my Deck if I have the option to use Switch. (I feel like I'm the opposite of most people that have that choice....)

Not to go too much into that direction itt, but I'm actually with you. Other than pure processing power, the Switch is the better handheld to me in every respect, at least the OLED model is; and given that I think that the technical difference when it comes to something like P5R on Switch and Deck isn't all too big (in my eyes at least), I can totally get behind playing it on Switch instead for its advantages over the Deck -- mostly when it comes to the screen, but also in terms of comfort (for me and my not so big-ish hands).
The PC version also has freakin' Denuvo, which already lessens the Deck's portable nature in P5R's case -- you might just not be able to play it on the road or out and about, thanks to the DRM screwing you over.

So, yeah, enough points in favour of the Switch version either way, as if the OLED screen wasn't a huge plus on its own already for a game like this.

I have FOMO with this game and it's preventing me from having a good time playing it.
There are so many things to do, and so many stats to deal with, and the fact that I know I can lock myself out of the true end makes things worse.

watch movies, read books, help people, wash stuff, be nice, answer questions correctly, exercise... wtf!

None of these things will lock you out of the true ending, and the game will give you more than enough time to complete pretty much everything. Just do what you want to do, when you want to do it. The only thing you want to be aware of is getting the three social links in the OP to the necessary ranks by their respective deadlines - which, again, the game will give you more than enough time for.

Other than that, do what you want. There’s no wrong way to use the time you have.

So I'm 15 hours into the game thus far and I have two questions: 1) how come no one told me this game follows the Xenoblade model of endless tutorials with new mechanics, lol and 2) how do you get your Kindness up?

For Kindness:
  1. Give the plant the fertilizer (it's free Kindness, because it doesn't take up time!)
  2. Work at the flower store
  3. Work at Crossroads
  4. Visit the Maid Cafe and forgive the server when they make a mistake
  5. Hang out with the Heirophant and Tower arcana confidants
  6. Read the relevant books, watch the relevant movies, watch the relevant TV shows, and play the relevant games
The jobs are your best and most consistent bet on this front.

Thank you! I was doing the plant thing and I just started working at the paint shop. I think was just getting too impatient about results.

I was excited to finally play Persona 3, but it’s coming out in the middle of like 4 other games I want to play, so it’s going on the back burner. It’ll be a great “fill a hole in the release schedule” game for later on though

Do people actually manage to max out all confidants in one play through?
I just started the last palace and I’m not even close with maxing out several of them, not sure if I messed up or if it’s normal

Yes, it’s pretty doable especially in Royal. I had all confidants and stats maxed and ended up with like two entire free weeks more or less. But that’s on a third playthrough, knowing pretty much exactly what I’m doing, and not wasting much of anything.

For a first playthrough? No way. Don’t try to max everything, just play it how it feels right and have fun.

Yeah. Unfortunately both are releasing on the same day right at the start of an RPG and adventure onslaught. I have Fire Emblem, Octopath II, and Zelda on my must buy list. I'm probably going to pick up Tactics Ogre whenever it goes on sale. And it's not like any of these games are short and the Persona games are just as long, if not more. So it might not be until June till I'm finally ready to sit down and play them. I probably need a Persona break regardless. I'm still working my way through 5. I think I'm at right at the end of where the original P5 ended.

I see I got all my stats ranked up fairly easily but confidants im not gonna be able to do. Will probably do new game plus and hopefully do it then
