Don’t understand the skepticism about a XCX port.

XC3 expansion released last year and Switch 2 will be the first generational leap in 10 years for Monolith too, not expecting a brand new game from them next year. Porting XCX, 4K with no loading time and new epilogue it’s… smart? Really, how many people have played this games? It could do very well in the launch window imho.
I personally agree with speculation of a Xenoblade X port being next year, especially if it's a Definitive Edition-type deal. Potentially it could be cross-gen, it'd be a good move to get all Xenoblades on one system while offering an impressive next-gen deal.

I do not believe the rumor because... well the source is shady as fuck, but the actual release from Monolith Soft tracks with their past behavior. Hoping it is true, even if I'm not inclined to believe the rumor.

The skepticism is because of the source but also they said that it would be cross-gen.

How do we know that this new account is Midori?

Couldn't anyone create a twitter account and claim to be the person behind Midori and then start making up leaks?

How are these things verified?
Same username as the account midori used before getting booed off the internet the first time and becoming Midori

I’m not disagreeing with the port because I expect it. I just disagreed with the timing.

Uh, sorry, missed the ”source” of the skepticism 😅

I mean, it was clear that these next months are gonna be hard. Pre-NX-level-unbearable. I just hope they don't stretch till february.
I think the fact that there's switch games to look forward to is making the wait for switch 2 much better. But it would be brutal if Nintendo waited until February to announce anything after DK.

Hey remember that time two Xenoblade games (one port/remaster and one new game) released in the same year? The same month in Japan?

My predictions for games shown in a Switch 2 reveal trailer:
  • A new 3D Mario game
  • Baldur’s Gate 3
  • Final Fantasy XIV
  • Tears of the Kingdom Deluxe (60fps and they’ll show a new area/sky island)
  • Metroid Prime 4
And for the grand finale:

- A new Smash Bros game/Ultimate DX
Forgot to add — Given Nintendo and Capcoms relationship, I think Street Fighter 6 is guaranteed to be in the reveal trailer, or at least later in the Switch 2 Direct/presentation.

I'd guess Resident Evil 4 Remake before Street Fighter tbh. That game has history with Nintendo consoles and it's a huge game that speaks to more people than a fighting game.

To be fair XC for 3DS was ported by monster games 😄
Now since they were acquired by IRacing, they are making odd games.

This was their most recent game (2022), no reviews on metacritic 💀

From the hardware thread, thought it would be more appropriate for this thread:
I imagine MK8 Deluxe if upgraded to 4K would be a truly evergreen game.

I don't think the next MK will make it obsolete in every way (definitely not the track selection), and the art style will never truly look bad. I could see it being on shelves, right next to the next game.
If people are choosing between MK8D and MK9, and they end up buying the former, that's going to deflate the online playerbase of the newer game. Wouldn't Nintendo want to avoid that at all costs? It's why I think NG patches will focus more on games that aren't as online-oriented, with Splatoon and Mario Party being the main exceptions since they will most likely wait a few years before releasing a game that's exclusive to Switch 2.

Splatoon? Maybe. Mario Kart and Mario Party? Nah. Splatoon lives and dies on its online support and community. If people don't move onto Splatoon 4, that's a problem. Mario Kart and Mario Party function fine with low player counts and the meat of the game is offline anyways.

they're making the next NASCAR game in UE5 for next year. it's supposed to come to switch, but I wonder if it'll get shelved for Drake

Isn’t it concerning to upgrade Mario Kart 8 Deluxe? It’s like an incentive to NOT buy the Switch 2 exclusive Mario Kart game haha.
With that line of thinking you could say they shouldn't bother with backwards compatibility - wouldn't Wild World harm New Leaf sales?

They care more about a healthy all-round ecosystem than individual game sales, updating the existing Mario Kart keeps it evergreen, it has tonnes of content, would easily run at much higher resolutions... And it would probably help, rather than hinder sales of the next one, as we've seen with next gen updates for Forza Horizon 4, which led into a monster success with 5.

People are willing to buy more than one game in a series.

Not gonna give any attention to you-know-who because of his shady reputation and mixed bag of a leak record but I will say it’d be really cool if the remaining Wii U games that aren’t on Switch yet are able to get next-gen remasters as well. I’m surprised Yoshi’s Woolley World for example hasn’t come to Switch yet.

I don't think they should exist at all. just make new games
A little silly to compare them, though. Updates don't preclude new games in the series. Why... Wouldn't we want performance updates for evergreens? They benefit everyone. They're good for the brand, too.

Xbox got... Both updates for many games AND plenty of new games by now. Nintendo is a big boy now, I'm going to hold them to the same standard as Microsoft. If they want to act like it's still the 90s they can, but I'll gladly think less of them for it.

I get that local multiplayer is still a major part of both series' identities, but the online playerbase being stuck on a different game is still going to make it that much more difficult to get excited about playing MK9.

There's plenty of middle ground between not allowing older games to be played at all and going out of your way to take attention away from the newer games. As for people being willing to buy more than one game in a series: You either ask people to spend a combined $120 or you have the older game take attention away from the newer game via discounts, neither of those situations are desirable.

because opportunity costs. new characters and tracks cost a lot, resources that could be moved over to new games. keeping two pipelines open isn't the best use of such resources when the old pipelines have shuttered already beyond bug fixing and adding some jpgs to your event editor

I think you're overestimating the opportunity cost of next generation updates. They don't even need to be handled by the same team, technically, and can have benefits beyond just existing. There's real business reasons they're ubiquitous on other platforms, and Nintendo exists in the same world they do.

BotW. TotK, Odyssey, and Luigi's Mansion 3 are definitely getting $70 4k 60fps remasters. They may have upgrade paths for other games but they will definitely not be free. Whether they release Mario Kart 9 or Mario Kart 8 Ultra-Deluxe depends on if they have a new gimmick for 9 to distinguish itself from 8.

Genuinely asking, has the existence of two Splatoons on Switch given that franchise issues keeping a playerbase? Because I've never noticed any issues finding a match in Splatoon 3

$70 remasters is ridiculous. Even Sony knows they can't get away with it. They won't charge $70 for games that came out nearly a decade ago.

This is what folks are rooting for?
