Pre-Release Nintendo has done everything in its power to make Metroid successful. The (morph) ball is in the market's court now

There was talk about if Nintendo should just go ahead and buy MercurySteam given the quality of Metroid Dread. I'd say I'm all for it, but that also begs the question what will Next Level Games be handling from now on? More Luigi's Mansion games?
Another Mario Strikers? Or... Federation Force Deluxe?

I would happily refer to FPS games as "Wolfendooms" from here forward. Or maybe "Doomensteins"?

Yeah, Next Level + the Metroid IP is just asking for Metroid fans to abandon all hope.
But indeed, they are capable of doing more than Luigi's Mansion. After all, you forgot the Punch-Out revival, as well.

Now, the question is what Nintendo can do to help push Metroid in the future.

The obvious answer is to revamp Samus' moveset in Smash to showcase how awesome everyone here already knows she is, especially with different abilities and mobility techniques she has amassed since 1999. Let her take an active part in Smash marketing.

I present as evidence of the foolproof nature of this plan that Smash Bros., after all, did wonders for Captain Falcon, right?

and now I just made myself sad. I'll be over in the corner playing GX through my tears

I would love a smash ultimate DLC with a second version of old characters, Samus, Mario, Link, Ganondorf etc... with new movesets based on more recent games

Bring Samus character (one with suite and one without) and Metroid Cup to MK9.

Well, I think after Nintendo buying them they'll be able to handle more than one game at once. I think one those games will be of course Luigi's Mansion 4, just seeing how well 3 did. I think they started working on a sequel in the same engine, maybe changing the thematic, going for a more interconnected world, back to a big mansion, like people of the dedicated thread are speculating. I think that way it'll differentiate itself well enough from 3, so I thing it'll still come to the Switch, by 2023. Just like 3DS got 2 and a remake of 1(by other team tho).
The other game they might be producing tho is a wild card. Maybe they are given a try to make a Zelda spin off. After the tremendous success of BotW it's kinda odd the only spinn off of Zelda are HW and Cadence. I think a strategy game would work well. Maybe they make a Metroid spin off, that would be awesome to have too.

That's actually a must for me. Seriously I can't see a better cross over franchise to the next Mario Kart than Metroid, now that Zelda, Animal Crossing and Splatoon are in. I think that's actually very likely.
Samus appearing in Super Mario Odyssey 2 or the EPD Donkey Kong would be dope too...

Pikmin in Mario Kart would also be great.

Don’t take another 10 year hiatus and capitalize on this success by maintaining momentum with frequent, high quality releases. Same as any other successful IP.

I think they will actually have to be careful not to flood the market with Metroid games.

We got Dread in 2021, and will get Prime in 2022 and probably Prime 4 in 2023, so it's already going to be an annual franchise for a while. Then they might want to rerelease Prime 2 and 3 in some form, port Samus Returns to the Switch, and they need to slot Metroid 6 somewhere.

The next Metroid game will be called Metroid: Stars. You get a Metroid Garden and based on animals you free during levels you can give them to your Metroid. Depending on which animal you give they either become Angelic Metroid or Devil Metroid. Also you can trade Metroid and crawl with them.

Live action movie featuring Scarlett Johansson as Samus and a realistic looking CGI metroid hanging with her in a family friendly road trip adventure through the USA

As you can see, best known first week debut. Now tomorrow will show the real number, the shipment amount as it gives us what Nintendo was expecting.

No it’s nearing two years since they last did one of those. Even Animal Crossing didn’t get one.
Yeah Nintendo isn't that prone to issue press releases even for major sellers anymore. With that said, I assume Animal Crossing: New Horizons' explosive start would've represented an exception in normal circumstances, but as theorised by others before me it's possible they felt it would've been in bad taste to celebrate AC's massive start during the beginning of the pandemic.

That number, without digital, is nearly half of Metroid Fusion's LTD numbers (which are 180,000 according to Wikipedia) in Japan. What remains to be seen is whether or not it can maintain interest better than other entries in the series, but it's within reach for Dread to be the best-selling Metroid in Japan since Super at least.
It's not gonna reach for the moon and eclipse the original (which allegedly sold something close to 1mil in Japan), but still... wow.

Someone posted that in a sales archive Fusion only got up to about 150,000. So not sure what to believe? If that lower number is true, Dread is probably only 20-30k away from Fusion in Japan when including digital, lol.
