I haven’t played it but I absolutely love how that game is flying in the face of every executive or producer of late that has been like “people don’t want turn based combat, stats, etc.”
BG3 would sell like 10 bazillion more units if it was an Action RPG, let’s be real here. And if it was Anime.

Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters not on sale....

But Baten Kaitos is
I’m actually leaning towards waiting for 50% with how quick it went on sale. Plus I have cyberslueth 2 and hack gu in my backlog.

On the flip side tempted by Ultra Kaiju Monster rancher finally hitting $25 at 50% off

Now that I'm close to the end of Alan Wake II I think I can confidentally rank the new games I played this year:

  1. Resident Evil 4
  2. Super Mario Bros. Wonder
  3. Tears of the Kingdom
  4. Pizza Tower
  5. Alan Wake II
  6. Pikmin 4
  7. Dead Space
  8. Final Fantasy XVI
  9. Fire Emblem Engage (lol)
Thanks for coming to my TED talk

Couple of games on sale I'm very interested in -- any thoughts on Heaven's Vault, Tokyo Mirage Sessions, Cadence of Hyrule, or Layton's Mystery Journey?
Cadence of Hyrule is neat if you're into rhythm games. I was really bad at it but I loved watching friends (who had experience with Necrodancer) play through it. The art style and the remixes are fantastic, and the general premise of the whole thing is really cool.

TMS is great if you know what you're getting (i.e. a very charming and very weeb JRPG that doesn't require a hundred hours to complete). It's not the Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem that people (Nintendo included, apparently) initially expected, but it isn't bad.

For Cadence of Hyrule, I subscribe to what @chocolate_supra said, with one addition: even if you're not into rhythm games at all, the game can still work for you if you use Fixed Beat Mode, which turns the game into more of a traditional turn-based roguelike.

Apparently a new batch of Lorcana cards released today. Went to just have a peek on the Ravensburger website, 71K people in a queue ahead of me. Noped out of there so fast.

Remembering your Pikmin 4 posts and looking at the games you ranked lower… 😵‍💫

Haven't bought any games on sale yet though I am getting Resident Evil 4 for Christmas. I did pick up some movies though

John Wick 4
The Batman
The Place Promised in Our Early Days
Everything Everywhere All at Once

I wouldn't bother with Layton's Mystery Journey. It's the worst Layton imo, it's got the weakest set of puzzles in the series and the plot doesn't really come together well (they tried for a more episodic approach but it just comes off as a bunch of random events that barely have anything to do with each other.)

If you really want a Layton on Switch I'd wait and see if New World of Steam turns out good.

Also going to second what @Cucufate said for TMS. It's not a standard SMT/FE crossover - it's more like an SMT spinoff with some FE characters - but the gameplay makes it worthwhile, imo.

Hearing from someone that has more than 1 year in the company apparently they had to add this because thing were getting crazy with tips over 30%
Tipping over here has gotten out of control (I don’t say this to mean frontline staff don’t deserve livable wage). It’s basically pushed by the third party services like square that process to payments as a “convenience” (they probably also get a cut). Things are getting to be set at like 25% as the suggested minimum. And it’s not just service industries asking for tips. I’ve read stuff like mortgage lenders and banks offering it for paying bills online…it’s out of hand, but won’t change with the attack on unions and low minimum wages. And depending on how the state works, you might be given a set percentage a day out of the tip and not even get what was given to you (or worse they have a service minimum wage and bring you up to normal minimum wage via tips).

Yeah , the hotel we stayed had in their menu a small legend that all services includes an obligatory 25% tip

Wow Peach really said "Just ignore that idiot". I thought Nintendo was supposed to be a family friendly company. I can tolerate children plunging a sword into a person's head as the world drowns or a scantily clad witch slaying angles or slaying your former students on the battlefield but calling someone an idiot is taking it too far.

This is genuinely the sort of stuff my family would say when I was growing up (except the scantily-clad witch part)

30 years ago today, stuff happened
And then some kid went forward in time and came back and warned the princess and the king about what happened and then the stuff didn't happen after all and the fans have been arguing ever since

Edit: dammit wait, that was 25 years ago
see I told yall time got all fucky

Ngl I have high expectations for Splatoon 3: Side Order. First roguelite/roguelike by EPD, a year and a half after Splatoon 3's initial release? This thing is gonna be full of content.
I can totally see them releasing it as a stand-alone game for people who always wanted a different single-player experience in the Splatoon universe. It wouldn't shock me if it's the big release in April or May.

Just felt like sharing this. It's become one of my favorite videos, when I just wanna vibe. It's also how I discovered Jack Stauber.

YouTube: *lists Anamanaguchi under "Pop Music" on my feed*

Me: el oh el, youtube's algorithm is working overdrive trying to cater to me specifically 🤣

Also YouTube: *recommends video of John Cleese and Rob Schneider complaining about how terrible and damaging "woke culture" is*

Me: . . .

All this year I’ve been working on finishing my Wii U Virtual Console backlog. 12 games are done (Breath of Fire, Breath of Fire II, Earthbound Beginnings, Earthbound, Fire Emblem GBA, Fire Emblem The Sacred Stones, Golden Sun, Golden Sun The Lost Age, F-Zero GP Legend, Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga (replay), Mario Golf, and Final Fantasy Tactics Advance (replay)), but now I’m starting the very last one, Donkey Kong 64, which I’m going to go for 100% for the first time. I beat the game and loved it when it first came out, but 100% has always eluded and haunted me as usually I’d burn out in the factory level or the big water level. But this time is different as I have so much more game experience, there’s a fairly empty release calendar for two months for me so I won’t get distracted, and huge momentum on my side.

I was originally considering making a thread for it since I think people would get a kick out of it, but I think I’m going to simply do posts in here and the Retro Games ST. But yeah, still curious to hear anyone’s thoughts as I go (love/hate the game, favorite/worst minigames etc.). I’m currently sitting on file select with an empty file, so I’m starting now :)

If you're going for 100%, make sure you complete Gloomy Galleon before moving on, a later upgrade makes the mechanical fish nearly impossible to do.

I would recommend being strategic about it to minimize the chaos. Get Diddy and beat Army Dillo, but leave the rest of Jungle Japes for later, instead go to Angry Aztec for the next two Kongs and beat Dogadon, then get Chunky from Frantic Factory and go back to the start so you can truly complete these levels. Just grab what's convenient along the way. If you want you can even skip the banana collecting because it's pretty easy to clip through the stairs and get under the floor in the boss lobbies by just crouching. If you're on N64 you can also just throw some oranges to lag the game and clip into Angry Aztec instead of fighting Army Dillo for the key, but you still need a total of 15 golden bananas to open the first three worlds, so you can't skip everything to get all the characters straight away. ...I mean, I'm sure there are clips for that too, but they're probably not trivially easy. Aside from that, resist the urge to switch whenever you see something your current character can't pick up. Go through the whole level and then plan who to switch to next, to minimize the amount of time you spend running back and forth to the tag barrel. It can be surprisingly zen! Or maybe that was just the stockholm syndrome.

Oh, also, regular bananas and banana coins don't count towards 100% completion. You only need 75/100 from each color of banana in each level to get the medal, and however many banana coins it takes to buy everything. The leftovers do nothing, and the game doesn't even tell you the total number of coins.

Well, painted the stickerless parts of Kamen Rider Fourze. Gotta let it cure tonight to see how it fully turns out, but a brush with the Gundam markers to do the switches and handle worked surprisingly well. Definitely way better than leaving them undetailed at least. The chrome drive I just did with the chrome marker tho. Don’t have the tools to clean up the inner wall but I don’t think it’s too bad

Yup I definitely plan to get everyone and then come back to earlier levels and do them one by one, though I did just finish snagging everything as DK and Diddy in Jungle Japes. I heard about the mechanical fish (someone posted about it on Fami like a year ago), but I didn’t know the specifics of when you get the upgrade that would sabotage yourself so thanks a ton there!

Had no idea normal bananas don’t count for completion. I might still try to get them all since I always associated that with 100%, but if it proves frustrating I’ll just get the 15 or so banana medals you need to finish the game. That will probably save me a bunch of frustration down the road since I remember the levels only getting more complex as it goes.

Thanks again for all of the tips :)

I wouldn't take Everybody 1 2 Switch for free tbh. It doesn't even have the novelty of being hard to find so it'll be worth a lot in the future going for it.

I was really hoping for a sale for Chained Echoes or Octopath II. But hey, SMTV for 23$! So I finally bought Shin Megami Tensei V and it should be downloading on my Switch at home right now. I'm excited to dig into a mainline SMT game again, I never got around to IV on 3DS.

Also got Blazblue: Cross Tag Battle just for the heck of it, and I've got Outer Wilds preordered too.

  • Steamworld Quest
  • Disco Elysium
  • Carto
  • Unpacking
  • Monster Train
  • Grindstone
  • Sifu
  • Hot Wheels Unleashed
  • Bear and Breakfast
  • Cyber Shadow
  • A Hat in Time
  • Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon
  • Islets
  • LEGO Brick Tales
  • Dodgeball Academia
  • Wintermoor Tactics Club
  • Giga Wrecker Alt
  • Overboard!
  • Nuclear Blaze
  • Devil May Cry 3
  • Capcom Fighting Collection
  • The Spirit and the Mouse
  • Retro City Rampage
  • Bug Fables
  • Tunche
  • Dredge
  • Lil Gator Game
  • Dordogne
  • Squad 51 vs The Flying Saucers
  • Etrian Odyssey III

You made a great decision. SMT5 is literally my favorite game on the system, beating the likes of BotW and DQ11. They improved so many things over the 4th game it's crazy.

Protip: Don't forget to use Spyglass on mitamas!

Also, get Bear & Breakfast and Monster Train off your list. Trust me.
