Too late. One of the admins already left with the several million sandwiches we got for the board.

Does Nintendo own Sin & Punishment IP?
Yeah, they do own it.

Pretty sure Treasure works much like Platinum, not actually owning none of the games/franchises they worked over the years.. the publishers involved on the project that stays with the ownership.

Seems like a ton of people signing up the past couple of days. The allure of the ‘yeah’ button.

Word.

Well, that and feeling like you can join in the discussion. Maybe I'm just not active enough in online circles, but ERA (after the initial honeymoon phase) had the distinct feel of a party you were far too late for, all the conversations had happened, and the groups had already been formed.

Co own it with Treasure, who's like 2-3 people now

Man, Nintendo is sitting on many cool franchises, they would be able to support a whole console cycle without third-party support, just using their IPs.

@ILikeFeet may be right about co-ownership; Just looking at the copyright on the Star Successor title screen

The N64 original only mentions Nintendo tho;

The Wii U VC re-release of Star Successor doesn't mention Treasure in the copyright section tho (in fact, it doesn't have one, much like every 1st Party game); Just in the developer space

My 3 year old had an utterly terrible night up with a runny nose and sore throat, really really hoping it's not the big C.

I renewed my NSO sub last month for the next year. Will I still have to pay $50 for the expansion pack or will it only be $30?
It depends on when you buy the expansion pack, it gets prorated based on the amount of time left on your subscription. So if you buy it right after you buy the normal subscription it will indeed be close to $30 more. If you wait another 6 months to be buy it it'll be closer to $15 more.

.... Someone remind me why i bother with Era still? I just had someone over there tell me that Chris "Head of gamesindustry.biz" Dring is saying, with examples, that piracy hurts sales is not proof that piracy hurts sales.

And then someone who's all like "it's not piracy if i buy it and dump it because lalala", completely missing the actual point of the post but hey, gotta post hot takes.

Yeah no reason to go back to era. Honestly the criticism we managed to have here about the NSO expansion pricing without devolving into ignorance and memes really opened my eyes to what kind of community we have here. It's so much less toxic.

As probably the only Bug Fables fan who doesn't know a Thousand Year Door from a Ten Minute Door, I'd recommend Bug Fables
Play Pikmin 3, what the heck, how is this even a question? Pikmin 3 is one of the most perfect video games ever made, and as such is one of Nintendo's best.
The duality of man lmao

I'll probably do Pikmin 3 first since I was a huge fan of Pikmin 2 growing up, and the game is supposedly pretty short.

So, with both Kamiya and Miyata saying that Bayonetta 3's in the final stretch of development + Nintendo finally showing the game - do you think it's possible for it to release in Q1/Q2 of 2022?:)
I think it will fall in the same time frame as Astral Chain which is check note around 6 months from now.

Pikmin on Switch was my first experience with the series and I loved it. I know people say it’s easier by default but I liked that it was kind of chill. Bug Fables I got on sale but haven’t played yet, but soon!

It can happen on big boards, yeah, and that makes disagreements and any kind of antagonism feel especially bad. This place will grow but hopefully it maintains a nice vibe where people feel like they’re welcome whether they post once in a blue moon or every day, and whether they’re all-rounders or hyper focused on a specific game/genre (or indeed if they are wrong about my favourite games).

I mean there is a huge study made by the EU and not published by them, that rather shows that piracy in the long term doesn't hurt sales.
You can read the study here: https://cdn.netzpolitik.org/wp-upload/2017/09/displacement_study.pdf

The overall conculsion is "With the exception of recently released blockbusters, there is no evidence to support the idea that online copyright infringement displaces sales,".
As for the other industries that rely on copyright (games, books and music), the study found "no robust statistical evidence of displacement of sales by online piracy."

I'd guess because those who wanna pirate stuff (for whateer reason) will and those who wanna support those wo created things will support them and often not wanna have the hassle to crack their hardware or download illegally and maybe get cought.

But again, the exception is with recently released stuff, which for most games is the critical period to generate money. Maybe less so for Nintendo and their evergreens. But a journalistic outlet to thank pirates for pirating in context of a recently released game of a franchise with little commercial success... well that is just a bad look for that outlet and something wheren an editor should have clearly said no.

Given the game in question was Metroid Dread, i think we're hitting that "recently released blockbuster" threshold. ;D

That study has 45% error margin. Rather do a coin flip to decide if piracy hurts sales lol.

The 306-page "Estimating Displacement Rates of Copyrighted Content in the EU" report (PDF) points out a number of caveats for this headline number, not least of which is a 45-percent error margin that makes the results less than statistically significant (i.e. indistinguishable from noise).

Okay, done with the Terrace in Galaxy.

  • Oh my god it looks good. I'll say it looks better than Odyssey at times.
  • The pointer requires recalibration like once every few seconds, which is a bum. But it's awesome to delegate the shaking move to a button.
  • Glad to be back. It's such a blast and joy to play this game. Truly a classic.

Gonna tackle Sunshine after dinner :)

Happy Monday! Hope everyone has a good week. I have real life things to do but I will make time to clean up my AC island. It's been sitting there for months but now I need to get ready for the update/DLC!

I've been trying to learn how to play Smash with the Switch controls but it's hard to ween myself off 20 years of Gamecube muscle memory.
I never understood the Smash fandom’s fixation with the Gamecube controller. I mean, I guess if you were playing Brawl at all, you didn’t REALLY have a choice and I guess maybe that’s what cemented it as “The Smash Controller?” But the Switch Pro Controller is 1) way easier to use and 2) a fantastic controller

I played Melee a lot and I'll admit it was difficult to transition into playing Brawl with the Wiimote, but you definitely got used to it if you stuck with it. Ultimate on the Pro Controller is easily better than both, though.

With that there is still no evidence that piracy will hurt sales in the long run.
But since Kotaku was talking about a recently released game, sure there would be damange be done during the crucial timeframe of a release window. And no matter what any study would say, to thank pirates as a media-journalist in an article is just bad.

Hot take time: I was so glad once i was able to move on from using the Gamecube controller for Smash.

Disclaimer: I usually suck at Smash and have done so in the past.

I haven't played it since 2009. Really curious to see how it holds up. Awesome that 3D All-Stars supports the GC controller.
