Great thread as always

Trinity Trigger launches april 25th I think, that looks like a fun game for the mana fans

I mixed up the styling a little bit this month. It's still a work in progress, so I'll still be iterating on it month to month. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Lots of good stuff this month. I'm getting Wildfrost for sure, as I've been looking forward to that for a while and I finally managed to beat the demo. I've also got a $40 preorder for Advance Wars, but I'm not sure if I'm keeping it or not. On one hand I want to support the franchise, but on the other hand I'm not sure if I'll really have the time to play through much of it before Zelda next month. I'm really trying to clear the slate prior to Zelda, because I know it's the only thing I will be playing once it's out.

I'll probably also dabble a little bit Minecraft Legends via Gamepass. I'm hoping it could be a fun little game to play multiplayer with my kids.

What are your all plans for the month?

Lots of interesting games. Process of Elimination especially.

Ok month, I guess. Lots of quality releases, especially on the indie front. While I'm excited about Advance Wars return, Grimgrimoire remaster should take up more of my time.

My Buy list:
Advance Wars 1+2
GrimGrimoire OnceMore
DNF Duel
Minecraft Legends
Trinity Trigger
Sherlock Holmes Awakened
Protodroid DeLTA

Waiting for reviews:
Disney's Speedstorm
Wildfrost
TRON Identity
Mageseeker
Batora Lost Haven (actually tried this on Deck and loved it. Might actually get it)
Curse of the Sea Rats
Road 96 Mile 0
Afterimage
Bramble the Mountain King

And the game I want everyone to know about is... Protodroid Delta, coming on April 27th. Just look at it:

Advance Wars and Nuclear Blaze for me, but I’ll be reading reviews of Afterimage too, that looks really cool

Only Advance Wars for me this month, I did spent too much in march with preorders

Unsure if I will really buy anything this month as I just really want to play Zelda. lol However, Advance Wars, Megaman Battle Network collection, Process of Elimination and Melon Jounery Bittersweet Memories are all on my radar.

I might save Advance Wars for later so I can pair it up with another first party title for a voucher. Megaman Battle Network collection is a lot of games, no clue when I will be able to get to it so maybe a sale on that. Enjoyed the demo for Process of Elmination, but I feel this is prime for having a good sale during later of the year.

I think I may end up going with Melon Jounery Bittersweet Memories for my new game of the month, while I still try to clear out some backlog. I know I tired to do that last month, but I ended up buying like 3 brand new titles, who knows I may do the same this month. lol

I preordered advance wars on the target deal forever ago so that helps. Battle network is probably a sale wait for me

Yeah those are great gets, but I missed out on that round. Don't mind waiting a bit since I already played these AW games.

No definite buys this month. I might buy Advance Wars physical, Megamall BN, and Cannon Dancer but not sure yet.

Advance Wars will be it for me. Megaman BN, GrimGrimoire and Process of Elimination all look interesting but I spent a little more than I thought I would on the now closed 3DS/Wii U shops (and got sucked back into playing those systems again too). I can wait for reviews and sales.

Ok nevermind, saw Labyrinth of Zangetsu is this month too, getting that one, always in the mood from an Acquire dungeon crawler

Some good sales right now on the EU shop like first discounts for Persona 3 and 4, lowest price ever for Skyrim, Kaze and the wild masks, loop hero… etc.

Probably no purchases for me this month since I need to be able to afford a voucher for TotK. Unless something on my wishlist gets a hefty sale.

Wildfrost demo did sell me on the game though. And I definitely want Advance Wars, Megaman Battle Network, The 7th Guest, DNF Duel and Nuclear Blaze at some point.

Advance Wars, baby.

I'll get Megaman and maybe Grim Grimoire later on a good sale.

just waiting for the Golden Week sale so i can double dip and finally pick up the Mysterious, Dusk, Arland trilogies, on top of Lulua and Sophie 2 and NEEEEEEELKE

i'd like to have everything Atelier but Ryza 3 by the end of that.

There’s a crazy sale going in Brazil where you can buy zelda TOTK for almost 44% off digitally.

Get to Nuuvem website as fast as you can and watch their twitch video.

Subscribe to their twitch channel (I used my prime account from Amazon to subscribe for 1month).

Then go to their steam elements site (just search for nuuvem steam elements on google) and get your 20% off cupon on the whole website for any purchase.

I got 500 reais in credit to get the voucher for zelda. I paid 400 only.

For Americans who doesn’t know shit about our currency, it’s like paying 38 dollars for the new zelda with taxes.

And I still have one ticket to use (may buy pikmin 4 or the advance wars remake).

Any impressions on New Super Lucky's Tale? I could go for a 3D platformer after enjoying Yooka-Laylee (outside the casino level anyway) earlier in the year.

Yep, I played the version of Super Lucky's Tale on XB1 plus the DLC and I enjoyed it a great deal. It's very charming, sweet and creative, and after the first set of levels or two is a bit too easy, it gets more engaging from there. The DLC was great too and I think that's in NSLT. I imagine 60 fps is great also. Definitely recommend it.

Picked up Civilization VI base game while it’s £4.99, seemed a good price to give the series a try finally.

Got Advance Wars pre-ordered as well for later this month, if I pick anything else up it will be in sales now me thinks.

i was really excited for vouchers returning but all the games i've wanted to buy aren't on it :(

They were always just for first party games — looks like it’s still all the available first party games + every announced first party game. What were you expecting?

it just happened to come at a time there's not a whole lot of first party games i want to buy, plus they popped up after Engage which was the last first party game i got.

since SE published Octopath Traveler II, that also meant that one wasn't available unlike OT1, Triangle and BD2. have to just wait and see what Nintendo announces in the next few months as i'm not buying AW1+2, BOTW2 or Pikmin 4 most likely.

if they had come out last year or whatever, i would have used way more.

Has anyone played Rite? It's on sale for its lowest price ever.
I remember learning about that game here and noticing it had good reviews so I namesearched it and found this post which you liked haha

At this price it’s probably worth it, it might not even go any lower, basically could cover any expiring gold coins or something. Very tiny file size as well, only 55MB. Would have grabbed it myself if I was itching for a platformer but that’s not the case since I had bought N++ in the past holiday sale, which has pretty much the exact same gameplay loop except it’s momentum/physics based. Pretty huge sales overall right now but won’t grab anything as I have plenty to finish before Zelda next month

Thanks @Yoshifan31! That's too funny that I already liked the previous impressions from @docus. Your link wouldn't load for me for some reason but I found it here: https://famiboards.com/threads/nintendo-eshop-st-aug-2022.3441/page-2#post-362945

So yeah, with docus enjoying it, seems I can't really go wrong. The only problem is I probably won't get to play it for ages with the backlog...so on my wishlist I guess it stays for now! As you said it may not get cheaper, and that's okay, but lately I'm trying not to fill out my backlog too much more unless it's something I'm desperately eager to play.

I tried the demo for Wildfrost and it's pretty fun. Lots of potential for working on different strategies, it's quite difficult and demanding but runs are lightning fast and lots of variety. Great music and art too. Probably going to pick up the full release this week...

Nothing for me this month. When there is a Nintendo 1st in the month, it is the only thing that I have time play (with Splatoon 3, of course).

Huge eshop sales right now, pretty much every notable indie game is on sale really

I think I have time to sneak in and beat the Crosscode DLC before Zelda drops. For some reason they forgot to put this game on sale in NA for like a whole year but now it’s on sale. I liked the base game but didn’t buy the DLC at launch because I was busy with NEO TWEWY at the time. Then it got on sale exactly once during the holidays/new years but I skipped it because I felt like playing a new game at the time. Then they just never put it back on sale at all until now. Hopefully going back to it goes smoothly as it’s been a while since I beat that game, on top of that it had one of the steepest difficulty/complexity curves I’ve ever seen in a game

There's a Rebellion sale on NA eShop! Not a drill, it's real! This almost never happens so get what you want quick. Sniper Elite 2-3-4, Zombie Army 4, Strange Brigade... All at record lows.

Damn, lots of good stuff on sale I would have pounced on if Zelda wasn’t coming in under a month

I've been playing a lot of Wildfrost and have lots to say about it. If you take a look on Steam, or read some of the reviews, it is getting hit hard for being too difficult and perhaps unfair at times. I agree that the game is difficult, but I'm not sure if I would go so far to say that it is unfair. I think as a deckbuilding card game in the vein of Slay the Spire and Monster Train (the 2 that I'm most familiar with), that its mechanics are very different and take a some adjustment before you really get comfortable with them.

I managed my first win in my 35th run, which feels pretty reasonable. I'll also say that in my last 5-10 runs I've been consistently making it to the final area, so I've definitely started to get better. I'm just going to throw out some thoughts of various parts of the game. (Since I started writing this post, I've won a second time)

The battles are puzzles - I've seen some reviews point to particular encounters and claim they are unwinnable, but they are missing the point. There is some randomness, but each encounter has enemies grouped with a single mechanic and you need to have come up with a strategy to counter that mechanic. If it is just a normal battle, especially those early on, you can sometimes brute force your way throughc, but as you get further in the run, and especially against bosses, you HAVE to think of a way to counter what the boss is trying to do. The whole experience hits a similar note to something like Into the Breach, where I'll be looking at the board and my hand for several minutes going through all my options thinking that I am doomed, and then having an epiphany and finding a clover solution that allows for me to win/continue on.

Runs are short - My winning run was only 33 minutes. It's nice having a roguelike with shorter runs, so it takes the sting out failing so much. I think the general structure is Battle -> Battle -> Boss -> Battle -> Battle -> Boss -> Battle -> Boss, so really only 8 encounters in each run.

It is very punishing - This probably contributes a lot to the difficulty criticism, but there is very little margin for error and the slightest mistake can end your run. Whereas in other games of this genre, making a single blunder might set you back, it generally won't end your run. I've had 2 recent runs that I thought were going to be wins because I had some great synergies and charms, but both times I carelessly left my leader in the wrong spot and they took fatal damage as a result.

Tips - There isn't an OT for the game, so I'm just going to drop some tips for other that might be playing or end up getting it.

  • You should buy a crown in every shop. It's a huge boon to be able to start each encounter with essentially free companions and actions. I was originally preferential to charms, but I've change my tune. There is reason you can only purchase 1 crown per shop, but can purchase 3 charms.
  • Learn all of the effects of the statuses. Some of them work slightly different than I thought and do additional things I didn't realize initially. For instance, Snow disables triggers, such as 'On Hit' and also prevents Snapback, which can be pretty critical for certain fights. Pepper will apply to all hits that a multi hitting unit will do, not just the first one like I assumed. This makes Pepper + Multi Hitting a really great combo.
  • A lot of the item cards serve a dual purpose and can be used on either your units, or the enemy units, depending on the situation. It's always a good idea to think about if there is a creative way to use a particular card that could get you out of a tough situation.

Overall I'm really enjoying it and working on unlocking all the various progression elements, which is mainly just items, companions, and charms that can show up during your run. It's definitely not for everyone, but if you are looking for something Slay the Spire or Monster Train adjacent, but perhaps a little more difficult, I'd recommend giving it a shot. The developers have also working on some QOL stuff, some balance adjustments, and have acknowledged the need for a way to tone down the difficulty. I suspect they are going to add an easy mode, or maybe some accessibility options that allow things to modified.

I've been playing and enjoying it as well but always get stuck at the same spot:

I will highlight it in your order:

Battle -> Battle -> Boss -> Battle -> Battle -> Boss -> Battle -> Boss

It's always this fifth stage, I've been able to get to it a few times, even with a pretty solid team that has cruised through the first four stages, and the fifth stage just dummies me. Suddenly enemies with 80 HP and 10 attack and more stacking up behind them that I just have no chance of defeating. It's kind of discouraged me from playing as I haven't been anywhere close to able to beat this stage, even when I feel like I'm getting a pretty good handle of the mechanics and going in with a solid team and strategy.

Is it the battle with lots of Pepper based units? If so, that one is tricky because each hit on the boss add 3 pepper to all units (yours and the enemies). He has a long countdown on his attack and I think a x5 multi-hit, so essentially you can't let him attack because it will kill you. You basically have to use the pepper buff your units get from attacking him, to take him out, but do it in such a way that any other surviving enemies can't take advantage of their buff (Either by killing them, delaying them, or blocking their attack with a clunker or something). Easier to write out than execute for sure, but I struggled with that one at first as well.

In EU Tinykin is at 16€... How are the performances on Switch ? I remember reading that it was so so at release but i cannot find if it improved since then.

I’m hovering over potentially buying the following in the current sale

Nobody Saves the World
Cult of the Lamb
Dawn of the Monsters

Might not grab all 3 this time round but I may pick up 2 as I would have £6 of gold coins to take off of one of them. Which ones would people recommend?

I’ve only played Cult of the Lamb and I think it’s pretty good. I’m a bit biased towards anything with a townbuilder mode though
