Thanks so much, I was really looking forward to getting this and didn't want to miss out. Extremely excited to get a new Nintendo manufactured N64 controller in 2021.

Me too, it still kind of blows my mind that they're making an official N64 controller.

One controller and one Banjo-Kazooie, please.

I really wonder whether they worked on that joystick, because the original one was (while good for its time) absolute crap.

As expected, the Swiss page is getting bombarded. Reached the payment options and got kicked out, now I can't even log in anymore. Typical.

Only grey. I'm guessing that will probably be the case outside of a random promotion. I doubt Nintendo will want to mass produce a bunch of different colors.

Why does it feel like Nintendo listed the 3 Button Genesis/Mega Drive controller for $50 just so I wouldn't feel bad for spending $50 for the N64 controller?

Got one. Very easy to order. Thank god :)

The n64 controller is awkward as hell to use, do people really have fond nostalgia for it?

I personally liked it. It was only awkward for me for 2D games, but for 3D games designed for the N64? Loved it.

This was in my confirmation email.

*Orders containing a Nintendo 64 Controller or SEGA Genesis Control Pad for Switch will not ship until 10/25.

Bummer :(

Sold out, goddamnit.

Oh well, it’s probably for the best right now. I assume this will be restocked continuously and not a limited time item, right?

Got one. I'll be honest in that it's mostly a collectible for me, but I'm sure it'll get some use. The design of it has become weirdly iconic over time.

For those of you buying, please post your impressions after getting in a good number of hours. I'm on the fence, which may bite me in the ass later.

Don’t know if I can quite justify the price for a controller (let’s be honest, I’d probably get two…) that I am in all likelihood only going to use a handful of times before I forget about them but…I want one so bad.

It won’t be long before I came and buy two.

The picture has one hand on each side of the controller. That's how I played growing up but I heard many years later that the manual diagrams I never paid close enough attention to, show you're meant to hold it with your left hand between the left and middle prongs. It's supposed to be much more comfortable that way. How do y'all hold yours?

Sold out by the time I was awake lol.

I'm sure they'll be back. SNES controllers were spotty for a few months too but are regularly available now.

Depends on the game you’re playing. If it’s a d pad game like Kirby or mischief makers both on the outside, 3D platformers you have your left hand on the middle

The manuals actually varied depending on the game. Most suggested that, some suggested the grip in the picture, and I believe Sin and Punishment actually used the left two handles. It all depended on whether you were intended to use the analog stick or dpad frequently (or both, in the case of Sin and Punishment).

Every game I had recommended the right two handles and that's what I did - but because it's was natural with my child hands, not because I read the manuals lol. Half our games were bought used and didn't have those.

Most games use the joystick, so you would be holding the middle and right prongs. Remember that the Z-trigger is on the back of the middle prong, which is also required for many games.

For the few games that use the D-pad, you would hold it like in that picture.

The controller had 2 modes - 2D mode and 3D mode. For 2D mode you held the left and right handles. For 3D mode you held the middle and right handles. In 3D mode the Z trigger replaced the L button. Games used less inputs then so you didn’t need access to the D-Pad.

A lot of people misjudge the N64 controller and these people mostly never used it and apply modern control standards when judging it. They presume that it was awkward to reach the D-Pad and L button when you were playing in 3D mode when I’m reality you never really had to do this due to the reasons I mentioned above.

Of course, the design wouldn’t work today because control schemes are more complex and you’re required to have access to as many inputs as possible, but back in the days it worked perfectly with games designed around the hardware which required less complex inputs.
