for those unaware of who SNEG is, they are a studio that was formed by a couple of former gog* employees, which took over the rights to a few titles gog acquired back when they were experimenting with publishing games themselves. see the last thread on them for more info.

general info here is that it's not simply the original DOS game running through DOSbox (though that's also included as a bonus.), they have collaborated with general arcade (who previously did similarly enhanced ports of Blade of Darkness and Diggles for them.) to provide a fully native windows port with the general enhancements you'd expect such as higher resolution support, higher quality sound effects, achievements, etc.
a demo is available containing the first two maps, so it's definitely worth checking out.

of note, one of the game's biggest supporters is none other than David Szymanski. creator of the beloved retro-inspired FPS DUSK. SNEG even, in a rare moment of them doing anything related to social media. got him to do a promotional live-stream playing through the port.

Chasm is a quirky, creative, and fun "bargain bin" FPS that takes obvious inspiration from Quake but adds tons of its own flavor in terms of weapons, enemy designs, and locales, and remains surprisingly fun even today.
- a steam review from the man himself.

*yes, this also means the game is available on gog. there's just no general pc tag on here.

the game has now been ported to Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One.

Switch (US) / Xbox / PS4 & PS5 (US)

as that banner up there shows, it's also gotten a big update on PC. which adds the following....
  • Implemented aim assist feature for controller input.
  • Added configurable motion blur post effect into the game.
  • Improved controls (e.g. more convenient turning and non-linear acceleration).
  • Introduced a new custom difficulty level that allows individually set player damage, enemy damage and a number of spawning enemies based on different difficulty levels.
  • Implemented new crosshair configuration (shape, size, color) and improved crosshair preview with animated background.
  • Fixes the annoying inaccuracy of crosshair position and hit projection.
  • Implemented dynamic protagonist picture, a feature that changes the protagonist's picture in the in-game HUD in accordance with health and picked-up devices during the game.
  • Added the following accessibility configuration options: non-stylized font, non-stylized font color and size and a plain color channel mixer.
  • Added Traditional Chinese language support.
  • Added the "Continue" option to the main menu. This option loads the latest save slot.
  • Improved mods support and prepared a guide to make it easier (friction variable)
  • Moved addon levels loading to the main menu for extra levels.
  • Improved the load time, all resources are loaded into the RAM.
  • Improved "menu" keyboard navigation with additional bindings: W/A/S/D is used for navigation and sidebar configuration, SPACE is used for on/off configuration options.
  • Added FPS lock configuration option.
also worth noting this is a self-published Console release from them. the Switch version of Blade of Darkness was previously published by QubicGames instead.
