Phew! Good luck. Doesn’t the original like…not have a map?! That seems really hard. Looking forward to hearing how it went!
I want to try and less rely on guides for games like Metroid, Zelda and resident evil so I’m replaying the ones I have played in the past and the ones I haven’t for all those series as well.

Resident evil 4 remake has showed me the way for this. It was so good. Metroid prime with a guide always up was no fun, I wanna try and play it on my own this time, same with dread

The lack of a map and saving, plus framerate drops, not spawning with full energy, etc. of the OG NES Metroid are why I always recommend people play Metroid Planets instead. All of those issues are solved, it can run on a toaster, and it's a highly polished and enjoyable experience. The new OST arrangements are the one thing that leave folks divided, but I personally like them.

This looks really good! I am planning to get a PC for the first time in forever in the New Year, I can’t wait to check stuff like this out.

The daily grind getting through every day IRL is tough, and sometimes I just want to get in the morph ball pose and stay there. One thing that keeps me going, however, is trusting the process and remembering how awesome Metroid is.

I'm gonna need everyone who buys this thing to post approximately five thousand or more pictures so I can create a proper 3D model in my mind palace and place it in the Metroid shrine of my mind palace.

dread by far is the best metroid game to be made long with prime imo

I keep bouncing off Metroid. I am hoping to retry one last time (I think my brain struggles with the genre, but I did atleast near the end of Aria). I loved Prime until the Chozo ghost stuff got to me when I was lost. I will restart Dread on easy sometime next year. I honestly mainly want Zero Mission on Switch though.

Chozo Ghosts can get pretty annoying, so I understand why you'd feel discouraged. If you ever decide to return to Prime, just know you can often simply walk right through their rooms, as opposed to being forced to fight them. In the event you do have to clear one of their rooms, Super Missiles are extremely effective.

And yeah, Zero Mission is a great early Metroid / first game for new people, so it's a shame it's still not on NSO.

Wait I could have walked past them the second time around each time?!!

This came across my YT, looks pretty epic, if you got 6 hours to burn :p

I watched this last week (over the course of the entire week lol). It's just ok. There's a lot of weird misinformation littered throughout where it feels like he read a summary of the game and called it a day, or just weird use of enemy names that doesn't make any sense.

There's also a huge, huge vendetta against Kensuke Tanabe that makes me sideeye this vid in general.

I don't not recommend the video, but I don't think it's worth the 6 hours.

That is one of the video I saw recently that got me to be rethinking my Metroid experience recently. That and this one (as an bystander to the series fully it was interesting to see someone more into the NES than other folks, which I think in general he is more willing to situate himself in that time period) got me intrigued again.

I will give the other vid that, it definitely made me rethink my own assessment of the original as well. I'll give this one a watch when I can.

Interesting, I just watched the smallest bit, so I can't really judge. Thank you for a more in depth summary!
