Yeah for series that aren't super massive like Zelda or Pokemon, we're actually noticing notable sales declines in the West, we at least have hard data that that's the case in the U.K.. And overall data for NA had software sales down in 2022 compared to 2021, despite the fact that 2022 was a year with much bigger games including 2 Pokemon games, Splatoon 3, and a 3D Kirby.

I think because the Switch is still selling like hotcakes people think declines haven't been noticeable but they have especially software declines in the West. Obviously series that never hit it big over here like Pikmin are breaking records, but series that have broken out in the West are struggling to hit the same sales. Of course, Prime 4 is a bit different because most of us are expecting it to be a break out game or attempt to be a break out game. But even if it does end up selling better than any previous Metroid game, I think signs are there that the Switch is slowing down a bit as a software beast in its key markets. It's obviously selling an insane amount considering how old it is, but it just isn't the reality some people think it is that software momentum is the same as it was during its apex.

I was holding out on using my second voucher on the off-chance Prime 4 might release sooner than later, but I finally gave in and accepted the truth. Mario Wonder gets it instead.

I want to say "am i the only one" but hate when people say that so ill just say im surprised how much people champion a Hyrule Warriors: Imprisoning War. I like Hyrule Warriors but it's the most boring concept you could do with it, it's basically just Age of Calamity all over again except with a cast that might be even weaker. Considering Nintendo couldn't even make the Imprisoning War interesting in their game entirely about its consequences, it doesn't seem like Nintendo actually has much interesting to say about it, and another filler Warriors title is the last thing I want to see in what could be very cool spin offs.

Since I've converted to team cross-gen, the only way I see it being there is if Nintendo somehow reveals Switch 2 this year, which I think is highly unlikely.

As weird as it is to say, I would rather see it at Nintendo's own event rather than Keighley's, even if it means waiting longer. Part of it is because I think it will get more focus in a Nintendo event, and the other part is me not wanting to stay up late to watch TGA haha.

Honestly, I think no matter where the game appears first, it's just going to be a "first teaser", before the proper drip feed and full showcase some time later. Nothing about the game's possible move to cross-gen or Switch 2 until later on, in other words.

In that respect, letting the Keighleys get such a dub for having a highly anticipated game get its grand reveal there would just be a nice thing. After all, at best, whatever Nintendo utilizes the TGAs for is basically taking the place of what a December Nintendo Direct would've done about a decade ago.

For me, it's like this: Again, while I could even see the point about how some feel AoC was a bait-n-switch? To me, the biggest letdown was that, certainly compared to HW classic, there wasn't as much of Omega Force's usual flair. The buttrock was gone. A lot of the bombast from how the characters would go ham in script in the prior game came off as much more "subdued" in the succeeding one. Let alone how the writing itself just came off as a bit lacking in general. And I could just go on.

So, I don't know if AoC was hamstrung by the expectations to stay more within BOTW's "tone" by Aonuma and Fujibayashi's supervision, but the main thing I would want from a sequel focusing on the Imprisoning War/TOTK is just for those to loosen up a bit. Give Omega Force a general outline, and then just let them make a game that could truly serve as the "grand finale" for this era of Zelda. At least, assuming this is the end of the line for this Link, Zelda and pals.
 
People say they’re hiring and it’s listed for Prime 4. The hirings only mean so much and if the game is coming to Switch 2, why wouldn’t they be hiring into next year?

From my perspective, its a good thing. They SHOULD be hiring to help in the later stages of development to help get it across the finish line. Especially since the game is likely being built for two systems, it's going to take a lot more work.

Imagine just how ambitious, how beautiful, how well-designed it's gonna be. I respect the devs, but I also can't help but feel some sadness for them as well. AAA game development on its own seems so grueling, but then you add all the pressure of it being this game they're developing, and... yeah. I'm sure it adds a whole new level of stress.
 
I just want Retro Studios to make consistent games at this point 😩 They are some of Nintendo's best devs

Yeah, I wonder what it's like over at Retro now. Despite what people say, they were actually a very consistent developer up through Tropical Freeze:

MP: 2002
MP2: 2004
MP3: 2007
DKCR: 2010
MK7: 2011
TF: 2014 (finished in November 2013)

All of their released games were completed in under 3 years with modest team sizes. Then a whole nine years until MPR despite being finished in 2021. Likely at least one major cancelled project. And it will be over 10 years between fully original games when MP4 comes out, and over a five year development cycle. There are plenty of people there that have stuck through this whole giant gap. So not only do they have the pressure of making Prime 4 after the first attempt was a failure and Nintendo PROMISED that this version will be on par with the trilogy, but also the pressure of simply shipping their first brand new game in over a decade. Stress levels may indeed be high, but I know that they #TTP, just as we do. There is light at the end of the tunnel, and all will be well.

When I get impatient and antsy about Metroid Prime 4, I have to remind myself of Beyond Good & Evil 2. I feel genuinely sorry for fans of the first game who have been waiting 20 years for a proper follow-up, only to get a game in development hell that doesn't even have anything fans wanted from a follow-up in the first place.

We at least have reason to believe Metroid Prime 4 is on the horizon and is being made with the design philosophy of the original trilogy in mind.

This was the same source that told me about the TOTK demonstration which I also talked about before it was announced. And hirings happen at all points in development, you should not put that much stock in that. Anyways, similar to how TOTK was held for a year being polished I believe the same is happening for Prime 4, and since it was not shown in any of the major Directs this year it SEEMS like a likely Cross Gen title at this point. Thats all speculation though.

That means the game has reached a Beta state, which is different from being complete. When you say it's complete, especially when that's the title of your video is misleading and click baity. MPR was being held for a year and half literally completed, which is far different from TotK or MP4 being polished for a year.

And I literally just said this polishing phase is speculation on my part. Read.
 
Honestly we should also think that, I really think that Retro will be asked to do Prime 5 just tonuse the assests again, considering the cost and everything

I've recently had a thought about something, but I hope they make Samus more human. Remember how she looked like in Prime 1? Compare that to weird anime lady in Prime 2, which was a much darker game. Prime 3 only continued the trend, and I dislike that a lot. Zero Suit Samus (both her suit and appearance) feels like a thing that should've been left in 2000, not born there. No idea what happened but can't help but wonder if Metroid Fan's Best Friend Yoshio Sakamoto had something to do with it.

I think the effort put into the Remaster model should be a good indication of what they'll go for in 4. Though I guess Nintendo could always pull a Nintendo and demand uniformity for the sake of Smash ha

Why does it look so uncanny? Why does she look like a plastic doll, and why is the art style like a proto-cel-shaded look? Why does it somehow look more flat than the realistic graphics Samus? It looks terrible!

As for ZSS: yeah, cringe. The less energy I waste ranting about that design again, the better. I will say though, that despite the (fair) criticism Sakamoto gets for stuff like ZSS and Other M, he seems to have course corrected, and he's done well to lead Metroid to where it currently is. I wanna shake his hand and thank him. I wanna salute him like I wanna salute the Nicole Kidman AMC Theatres ad.

Every time I forget what she looked like and I go "I think she had bigger eyes and was weirdly glowy?" but every time I see her I'm surprised anew. What a creature.
