Dream case scenario - and still a possibility.

Edge 10/10 scores are so rare that I think a 7 has a higher probability of happening. Especially after they gave Samus Returns a 6.

They gave 9 to Twilight Princess in contrast with 10 to Ocarina, Skyward Sword and Breath of the Wild... They also awarded both Bayonetta games with a 10. Maybe Metroid Dread having everything perfect has a shot??? But yeah, 9 is more likely sadly.

Honestly a 9 would still be incredible and give the game a shot at a 90 MC score so I’ll take it!

I predict an 8 or 9 from EDGE. I really enjoyed Samus Returns, but the gap between it and Dread is super notable.

Some of these Shinespark puzzles had me screaming but I'm down to one final area where I need 100% before I finish the game. Feels good!

I don’t think we should worry too much about Samus Returns EDGE score. . 1. Don’t know if the reviewer is the same (?), and 2. I haven’t read the review but if could have been against Metroid II as a game, which would have been out of Mercury Steam’s hands.

Some of these Shinespark puzzles had me screaming but I'm down to one final area where I need 100% before I finish the game. Feels good!

Have to admit, I used a video to show me what I could do with Shinespark, and inadvertently learned how to solve at least one of the puzzles.

I’m trying to figure most of the game secrets out without a guide but some of the Shinespark stuff is wild and who knows how long it’d be before I figured I could even do some things. I don’t know if I’d have ever worked out chaining multiple Shinesparks.

I LOVE Tetris Effect, don't get me wrong, but that's a little too high.

Well the game only has 8 reviews so the average isn’t very accurate atm, look at other platforms with more reviews for more accurate score

It got a "polygon recommends" from polygon which doesn't count for the metascore but I really like it.

it's really rare to see a game climb up like this. it doesn't happen often that scores go up when things are settled after the day 1 reviews. scores just go down as more reviews come, almost always.

It really is impressive. When it fell from 90 to 87-88 after the first hour or so I didn’t think there was any chance that it could climb back up.

Is by GameMAG. Is not like the score matters as much as they said "it doesn't revolutionize the genre" without even mentioning stuff like is basically the best controlling Metroidvania ever.

This doesn't come much as a surprise though since Hollow Knight, often considered the pinnacle of the genre, sits at 90 on Switch (and Ori & the Will of the Wisps is at 93 for some reason. Don't get me wrong, Ori 2 is a great game but is simply not as good as either HK or MD).

One tip I've learned from doing almost all the shinesparks puzzles is that as soon as you bounce off a wall, you can let go of the control stick. You only need to push it in the direction when you're running on the group, so if you're bouncing off a bunch of walls it's best to let go of it as the bounce will automatically happen.

The only thing preventing Dread from a personal 10 is the music, imo. Gameplay is near perfection, artstyle is on point, graphics are awesome, Samus characterization is great, pace and length are (chefkiss) superb, but the music...

I don't know.... I'd subtract 0.5 point because of it. The credits song is straight outta Zelda game lol

I don't think the composers have done a good job understanding what makes a song truly metroidy, for the lack of better word

I don’t think one 8 is really an issue when it got two 10s, a 9, and a 9.5 in the last 12 hours. A single 10 alone more than compensates for the differential between the current metascore and an 8/10 (especially since one of those 10s is from Gamesbeat and they’re highly weighted).

haha I don't normally get invested in MC scores but I find myself checking multiple times a day to see if it made it to 90. This is my first Metroid game and I haven't finished it yet but I'm loving every second of it and I think it deserves that 90 MC. I'm used to seeing initial MC scores high and then slowly goes down but the opposite has been happening for this game and it is exciting to watch.

Edge has almost no online presence. It's really weird. So yeah, we'll have to wait until the next issue for a review (or possibly even the issue after that....hopefully not).
