  • OMG GIMME ADVENTURES OF KATE AND YELENA SHOW RIGHT NOW PLZKTHX
  • bro I got sworded
  • omg the spinny shrapnel arrows look like they'd HURT
  • Wait WHAT? They brought D'Onofrio's Fisk back just to kill him off after one episode? Or is it gonna be one of those bullshit things where we heard the gunshot but didn't see it land so maaayyybe he's still alive? 😩
  • AAAAAAAHH THE WHOLE MUSICAL NUMBER? THEYRE GIVING IT TO US?? 🤣
  • god it's so cringey
  • Welp, no mac and cheese this episode, so that's disappointing for me
Fisk is alive, that scene is taken straight out of the comics. He loses both of his eyes (as a parallel to Daredevil).

Was never much of a fan of Clint/Hawkeye, but I was told that you know who showed up in the 5th episode and had to watch it.

It was alright.

I'm pretty sure Kingpin isn't dead, I just hope we see him again soon.

I enjoyed it, tho
Feels like people seem to be misreading how this finale is presented. They seem to think “Oh Kingpin ineptly threw useless thugs and a sniper at Hawkeye and Kate personally”
Uh no, he did not send low level fighters against a legend level former spy/assassin with worldwide recognition. Or this random kid.
He was making a power statement against a turned business partner to establish to the underworld that yes I have enough power I can cover up an attack on a major public space in the middle of the city on a massive holiday, delay the police arriving for half a hour, send a limitless amount of man power to bring me an incapacitated(by the sniper who could have killed her without the backup) traitor who I will personally take and make an example of after I torture within an inch to show her blackmail doesn’t effect me as I already planned for it. And when a hero beyond his minions scope shows up he personally steps in, then bows out when a fly winds up taking care of the itch he was after.
Elenor was just that weak of a target to him he made a grand display of it

Saw Venom 2 yesterday and I haven't seen a maniac that oily since I watched The Oily Maniac!

Also it was a huge piece of shit.

Top Venom 2 moments:

1) How it felt like a whole hour was cut out (for the better)
2) Carnage's title drop
3) Venom wearing glowsticks
4) Venom gleefully breaking Eddie's motorcycle while Tom Hardy pathetically shouts at him
5) Funny ADR (Who said romance is dead, etc etc)

Honorable mentions go to the return of Tom Hardy's accent and Venom's chickens

Lately I was thinking of starting a re-watch of the entire MCU so that I could catch up. I dropped out of it after Spider-Man: Homecoming (yep, before Infinity War) mostly for a growing list of personal gripes that made me more and more negative toward the whole project, though one of the biggest elements was what I call the "mask problem".

I'm sure I'm not the only one who noticed the way the MCU has masked heros and villains take off their face-coverings as soon as possible, regardless of them being masks, helmets and the like unless a specific plot-point prevents them from doing it (Ant-Man being the perfect example). I think costumes, masks and their designs are a crucial part of the genre for me, since with the right direction and framing, they can become their own character and presence on screen if the director gets their potential in terms of subtle and visual narratives.

The MCU has been a huge disappointment for me in that regard, even going as far as giving more human features to non-human characters like Ultron or Dormammu, probably for the mass audience to relate to them better or some other reason. I don't want to write my own essay here as I don't want to just drop a huge wall of text, but ths has been one of my biggest gripes with the universe, especially as a fan of comics and Toku series like Kamen Rider and Super Sentai, where the importance of those elements is as alive as ever.

I just got to know about something that happens to a specific character in the latest Spider-Man movie and, I'll be honest, as petty as it is, it kind of put a bit of a dent in my plans to rewatch the MCU, mostly since I know that, for the majority of people, this isn't a problem at all and most won't even notice it, so it's not something I can ever hope in being "fixed".

I am aware that it's a very personal thing to gripe on about, but somehow it's a thing that kind of legit upsets me everytime I see it happen on screen, at least when it doesn't make sense for the character to do. I apologize for the small rant, but it's something that had me bothering for a while about the movies and I figured talking about it with other people might help me process my thoughts.

It doesn't bother me, but I do notice it. It reminds me of a problem someone (a cinematographer or director or something, I forget who) had with modern blockbusters where shots are often framed in weird ways with vertical angles that didn't make sense to them, until at one point they realized "Oh wait, they spent a fortune on this set and are probably just trying to show it off." Similarly, every time a Marvel character takes off the mask in the middle of a fight scene or something I think it's basically them saying "see, it's totally still this actor we paid a bunch of money for, definitely not a stunt double in a suit!" They do the same thing with the posters, which you probably noticed as well. "Look everyone, see who we got in this movie??"

If I were to be less cynical, it could be them trying to maintain immersion by showing the audience it's not a stunt double, but it ends up being ironically immersion-breaking for those of us who think into it. 😅

Hey out of curiosity, can you pop into a spoiler tag the thing you found out that happened to that character in Spider-Man? I've already seen it so no worries about spoiling me, I'm just curious what irked you.

Yeah, I did think the same thing regarding the actors. I admit I thought I was being paranoid at first and maybe I was just seeing a pattern where there wasn't but...well, it kind of kept happening, so after a while it was impossible to even try to ignore, with how important this element is to me!

As for the spoiler:

I'm referring to Green Goblin breaking his mask within 10 seconds of showing up. While it made sense in that very moment it kind of hurts to see they never made him retrieve it or get a new one other than donning a hoodie and a pair of goggles once his Goblin persona came back to him. It doesn't help that the Green Goblin suit looked like a tokusatsu-inspired costume, which automatically made it a fave of mine through the history of superhero movies. In a way it feels like they're kind of ashamed of masks or maybe they just don't really know how to use and frame them in a proper manner. Though I'm sure the "actor element" plays a big part too and it kind of sucks for people like me! ^^;

Ooooooh yeah, I remember when Raimi's Spidey 1 came out and people were making fun of Goblin for "looking like a Power Ranger villain." I can understand how a tokusatsu fan would view that as a positive, even while the MCU was trying to "fix" that by giving him a slightly more comics-accurate look where he just has a hood and a twisted face (Dafoe doing the face goddamn perfectly, without them prostheticing him up). Actually Dafoe's facial performance in this one is one of my favorite parts. He nailed Goblin in this movie, good lord.

Sorry, I don't mean to sound like I'm pivoting to supporting the maskless stuff, just... Dafoe, man. Damn. I was most excited to see the return of Molina (Raimi's Spidey 2 is still one of my all-time faves, due mostly to him) but during the movie Dafoe passed him right by and just won for me.

So I guess that's my takeaway. Willem Dafoe won acting.

Imagine a Spiderman movie being nominated for an acting Oscar. They aughta give it to him.

Okay now I wanna watch NWH again.

Oh don't worry, I'm certainly not here to bash other people's likes! If the mask stuff wasn't such an upsetting/annoying trend to me chances are I would've understood this "take" and appreciate it for what it is, but as things stand, at least from my personal perspective, it just stands as another example of the MCU creators just tossing away one of my most beloved elements of the genre.

I watched the Eternals for this first time.

It wasn’t that bad honestly. Like the comic books it’s weird. And that’s its strongest feature but also its worst if it makes any sense. Pacing issues are real too.

Still fun to watch

I feel bad for the mc though, it must feel quite disorienting lol

Feels like mcu is slowly starting to go a bit more dark/grim (i havent seen spidey yet bc lockdown so im avoiding most mcu related posts but I had to talk about the new show)

Also I recently got to watch Eternals, it was fine but I think I'd rate it the lowest out of the whole mcu franchise imo

Looks interesting.

Something about the way Moon Knight was framed at the end rubbed me off the wrong way, it feels kind of too...casual, I'd guess ? Like, not a lot of emphasis put into the costume reveal. But being a trailer I'm not willing to put any definitive judgement forward yet.

I finally saw Spider-Man! It was gooooood

Some random things that are spoiler-riffic

- I loved the three Spider-Men; Tobey felt like an uncle, Andrew was cool too. His scene with saving MJ and him getting emotional tugged at the ‘ol heartstrings. The thing about the organic webshooters was hilarious. And Andrew giving Ned the assuring look/nod about his reassurance he will not turn evil was great.

- They made Electro and Lizard cool in this movie. Especially the former even had a few great lines like “with you helping out poor people and stuff I thought you were black. Oh well maybe there’s a black Spider-Man out there”

- Alfred Molina is great as usual. That great callback about “the power of the sun in the palm of your hand” was amazing to hear again.

- Willem Dafoe is fantastic again. He even said the line! People were all laughing when that one was used. Him killing May though :(

- When the dimensional cracks were opening to see the figures of other villains appear was really cool. Kraven the Hunter, classic Rhino…

- The Matt Murdock cameo was awesome. Him catching the brick and Peter being perplexed and asking him how he did it, to which Matt replies “I’m just a really good lawyer” gave me a very good chuckle.

- The ending of the movie was bittersweet. While I understand Peter’s sacrifice (as in the most Spider-Man thing to do) I just feel for the guy. Him going back to basics was cool though. Really hope we’ll get a new movie with Holland.

- I mean they have too… even if Brock got zapped back to the Venom verse, the symbiote is officially in the MCU now. Black suit Spidey when?

Symbiote already exists in the MCU, a piece got left behind as a mechanic for it getting to that specific earth. They referenced the multiversal hive mind so it’s less venom getting left behind than the Symbiote ordering a division. It’s also how the Symbiote knew Spiderman was Peter Parker, it was another Symbiote they were tapped into when they got warped

It's very interesting so far since everything for the character right now is mostly NEW, just to note he has multi-personality disorder (much like the god he has his powers from who has multiple faces/avatars). His current British personality is one I don't remember from the comics and the main villain looks like a combination or parts of of Moon Knight villains made into a new character. And even how his powers/costume seem more on the magical side as the costume looks like some magic Egyptian mummy wrap when before his costume was just a power suit he designed. But I guess it makes his combat style more fun because Moon Knight doesn't dodges attacks he just takes the hit, which fun fact is why he is the only hero Taskmaster will never copy because it would lead to them being vulnerable or dead copying his style.

There's a lot of nice hints and a call out by name to one of his other well known personalities. And dropping bits of the lore and already establishing avatars which I feel they might be double downing on for the story and characters.

What really makes this fun is that we really can't reference the comic too much this time around because a lot is being changed. Not really for the worse or better, but it keeps you on your toes a bit and keeps you wondering where they are going with this.

Needless to say they really should had dropped more then one episode day one, or just release all 6 episodes. Because seeing as this is going, this would had been better to binge multiple episodes at a time. This seems like one of those shows that's better to wait until they are all out and binge at once.

I finally watched No Way Home. I have a lot of feelings about it (mostly good!) but really I just want to ask about the Dr Strange trailer that played at the end of the credits

So uhh, the evil Strange in the trailer is definitely the same Strange from What If right? I feel like showing that Strange shoot out the tentacles was a dead giveaway.

Don’t know if this needs a spoiler tag because it’s in the trailer and it’s speculation, but whatever

That’s super cool if it is indeed the What If Strange. And that could prove problematic for our Strange, because What If Strange is much, much more powerful than he is.

Ugggggh that’s so cool. Strange’s What If episode was the best one by far.

I mean, that would explain him needing help from Wanda. The later trailers make it obvious that she's way more involved in the action than just expositioning the multiverse like the No Way Home trailer makes it seem like she's doing.

Recently saw No Way Home. Something about the conclusion I'm not sure I'm understanding properly.

So the big problem was that this specific world was going to get full of everyone from across infinity who knew Peter Parker was Spider-Man. The proposed solution... a spell that makes everyone forget about him, thus making the thing pulling them to that world invalid. But if "forget about him" is applied to all those new arrivals, wouldn't that screw up the entire multiverse's understanding of Spider-Man, rather than just this world's?

Second, I think I understand this properly, but the whole concept of the "spell of forgetting" seems incredibly overpowered. It clearly goes beyond forgetting to also creating alternate memories and modifying all the physical evidence for everyone in the world, or people would just notice yesterday's newspaper and re-learn what they forgot. So it works out to having every effect of time travel without being time travel.

Separately,

So, Moon Knight is over!

V - My non spoiler thoughts, but I just put it in there so I don't subconsciously impact peoples own opinion of the show if they still need to watch it. XD

I have to say, eventhough I liked the premise and the character suits (best ones in mcu thus far imo), the series was a real miss for me in the end.
I think it's my least favorite entry, just one space above GotG2. XD

I think just didn't vibe with the directing of the show.
The pace felt off, story development wise I also had a lot of wth moments and the worst part was the overusage of the shake cam effect that wasn't even that well done.

I think this might have been better in a movie format actually.

That said, Oscar Isaac has been carrying the show so hard! Amazing actor and I really do hope we get to see more of him in the MCU!

Moon Knight was fucking awesome. I loved it from start to finish. I’m so sad that it’s over! I need more Moon Knight. Gimme a season two, or even better, a movie! Or both! I loved it so much that I want to read the comics just to get more of Marc, Steven, and Jake. So I signed up for Marvel Unlimited and started reading the Moon Knight 2016 run. Nothing else in the entire MCU has made me want to read comics, but this show did. Bravo, Marvel Studios. You’ve outdone yourselves.

tldr Moon Knight is possibly my favorite MCU thing they’ve ever done

Question for anyone that is more into the comics:

MCU started with an almost realistic Iron Man fighting terrorist movie, moved on to Captain America fighting Multi-National evil organizations, with universe threating Thanos always in the background as the big threat.

Loki / Dr.Strange 2 over-arching theme spoilers, no actual plot details:
Now the big threat in phase 4 is to the entire multi-verse,
The power Inflation is so high that, where does Marvel go from Phase 4? What could they possibly do that could be a bigger threat than multi-verse destroying? I`m sure the comics has suffered with the same problem.
