Map-making first person dungeon grindfests are awesome and I need them on my Switch :)

I love Wizardry, I love Etrian Odyssey, I love The Dark Spire. In short, I love first person dungeon RPG's where you explore and fill out maps (automatically like modern Wizardry or by hand like Etrian or Persona Q), you grind and flesh out characters with skill trees that fit their vocation. And if DS and 3DS told me anything, I need them on my handhelds since they are great for commuting, just grind a few levels from A to B.

Now, the eShop is a mess for me, but I'm sure there are a lot, A LOT, of games I may never have heard of on their. and there may be some great first person RPG's scratching that Wizardry/Etrian itch. Maybe people here have some suggestions? It's ok too if it doesn't tick all the boxes, but I'm looking mainly for addicting character building grind RPG's.

Any recoomendations on Switch? (ok ok, PS4 and Xbox One X is cool too, but these games shine on a portable for me :) )

Years ago I was considering giving Etrian Odyssey a shot but decided to wait until one of them hit the Switch. Where the heck are they? I was expecting at least a remake or something by now.

Stranger of Sword City is on Switch, so if you're looking for something in the vein of EO and Wizardry, this should hit the spot.

Etrian series only existed thanks to dS/3dS's double screen feature and stylus. The whole mapmaking system must have been impossible to transfer to Switch. They probably thought another EO project just wouldn't be worth it so Atlus now focuses on higher budget stuff.

Thanks for the recommendations, will check these out! I do own Labyrinth of Refrain but I dropped it quite fast. I should give it another go though.

Others have beaten me to most of the already released titles that came to mind for the Switch, but I am eagerly awaiting Labyrinth of Yomi in a couple of weeks for similar reasons. May need to search for it as Yomi wo Saku Hana to get more information.

Obviously take it with a grain of salt for now, but we may yet see signs of life from Etrian Odyssey. There was the short teaser from years ago, and it had only recently been noted that the primary Director of the EO series is actually also working in the role on Shin Megami Tensei V, which may explain some of the extended silence. There was also a comment in Famitsu about sharing news about it soon, so it seems unlikely they don't have some plans for the IP.

Unless I'm much mistaken, Atlus actually announced that there's an EO project in the works (I think they said 'the next step to the series' or something along those lines) like... three years ago now. So it's theoretically happening, but we've heard nothing since then.

EO won't be showing up anytime soon. They still haven't addressed the big hurdle that is how will map making work now.

oh god how did this get here im not good with comp
i liked labyrinth of refrain quite a bit, so i'd recommend that one.

i havent played stranger or sword city or saviors of sapphire wings yet, but i have played other dungeon rpgs by the same dev (EXP INC) and theyre good.

demon gaze is one of those and is coming to switch in december i think. it has a pretty thick veneer of weeb garbage on it though, so if your tolerance for that is low you might wanna skip it.

as far etrian goes i almost wonder if they're gonna try to make a different kind of game now that mapping might be compromised. i figure it'll still be combat focused and story light, but maybe in third person? something like the 7th dragon game on 3ds maybe.

Yep, and radio silence ever since.
