Our Living Room TV is starting to flake out, and I'm considering replacing it. I've been looking at the LG CX, but it's unavailable a lot of places, and seems to be in clearance a couple of places.

I'm hoping that I can wait it out until next model year, adn even then, I can steal the bedroom TV and put it in the living room.

Any thoughts?

Way to go for what? The Switch?

I'm not sure but I've been happy with all my LG TVs I've bought over the years. They always seem like a good balance of quality and cost.

General use, plus switch, and I have a series x too, and I was thinking that occasional VRR gaming might be nice there.

Not so long ago it was the big thing. Just wondering if there's now something newer and better now.

Cool, haven't heard much about this TV, but I'm sure it's good given its LG.

I'll be TV-hunting sometime in the future, so I'll be keeping an eye on this thread.

Fingers crossed. Maybe I even get another year out of my current one.

I game on a CX. My only complaint is there is some banding in dark scenes. Resident Evil 7 for example was really noticeable on it.

Otherwise, this TV is sublime. I just finished Psychonauts 2 and was just blown away. Since this is a Nintendo forum, YMMV on Switch games. Anything 1080p like Animal Crossing, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, or Mario Kart 8 Deluxe really pop. Even Zelda: Breath of the Wild is acceptable.

EDIT: Just saw your comment on VRR gaming, so I’ll add this. I tried Sea of Thieves and was shocked at how stuttery it was on my Series X on the opening tutorial island, which I read is common. Pretty unacceptable. I turned VRR on and booted the game up again, buttery smooth. I am a big believer in VRR now.

There's the LG C1 these days and I've heard good things about some of Sony's and Samsung's TVs as well

I got a G1 (2021 model) back in April/May and I've played a lot of hours of Switch software on it (Monster Hunter Rise, Bravely Default II, Splatoon 2, Skyward Sword) and some PS5/XSX titles and I'm super satisfied with the purchase. It's probably the best gaming TV right now (along with the C1) and the most future proof (LG is still updating the C9 firmware, for example).
There will probably be some deals around Black Friday.

Edit: I sit around 1.5~2m from the TV and Switch games look good/fine despite the resolution difference and the size of my TV (it's a 65" model).

Ah. I hadn't realized there's a new version, and I think I also have to look at the G1.

Part of this is future proofing. I do the majority of my gaming on my Switch - my Series X can go weeks without play - and while I'm not anticipating VRR on the next generation switch, if it's there, then I'm ready for it.

Well the G1 is a good bit more expensive so I'd keep that in mind

Oh yeah, I completely understand. I'll be getting a PS5 when it's not impossible to get one and I imagine that I'll still be fine with 4K with the PS6 or whatever plus whatever the next Nintendo system is so I'd want one that'd be good for a long while too

Have a CX and it’s amazing, can confirm.

The LG OLEDs are the best TVs on the market, not really debatable.

I think the G line is better than the C, but they’re super expensive? Not really necessary unless you really want to burn some money.

I do love my CX for my PS5 and Series X, and it’s a very future-proof TV as well in terms of features. Notice a fair amount of banding in very specific circumstances but I’ve also not gone into the settings to try and fix it, and 99% of the time it’s not there or noticeable at all.

For Switch, it looks nice, games like Mario Kart and Metroid Dread look nice on it, if a fair bit more jaggy than the games on the next-hen consoles. Still, as a TV and an investment, it’s a very solid shout, and cheaper these days, I think?

Nowadays I would try to go for the C1 instead of the CX (wait a month and you may find really nice sales during black friday), Only go for the G1 if you are going to wall mount your tv, the c1 and g1 are the same, but the G series is made for wall mounting

I'm currently using the CX for series X/ps5 and switch and it works really well with all of them.

Once I get into a game, I don't notice jaggies too much. What really gets me is tearing and jitter. VRR is great for that. After that I notice compression artifacts or under-resolution textures - but that's mostly a problem that I notice on pre-GC systems. On that note, I'm hoping that they apply nice shaders to the GTA Trilogy titles.

Interesting that that's the difference. My current TV is wall mounted and is connected to a 5.1 setup. I'll do research between the two.

I got a LG CX 65” over summer and I absolutely love it. When playing on XSX or PS5 I had to NOT use the HGIG tone setting because it made games look extremely flat to me. Once I turned it off, all of my HDR games popped. I do not regret it one bit.

The LG C series is awesome, I have a C1 and love it, looks great for any of the current systems. Worst thing about new TVs is you need adapters to play old consoles though (non HDMI stuff).

There are more differences to the G1 vs the C1 than just the wall mounting, the G1 has the Evo panel, which allows more brightness when using HDR and things of that sort. But yes apparently it does not come with a stand at all, so you have to mount it.
You can mount the C1 or CX, it just requires a much more expensive mount to do so.

I just purchased a 55" C1 from Costco after I sold my CX to move out of state (vs risking damage), and I love it. It is the direct replacement for the CX, with only a few changes really. I do think I prefer the older WebOS though.

If you find a good deal around black Friday, or even not, at Costco when I bought mine about 2 weeks ago, they were also offering a free All-State added 3 year Warranty that starts after the manufacturers warranty expires, so that's something as well. Besides the fact that they generally back up their products via return policy as well. And of course, legit like 3 days after I bought the 55", the 65" went on sale for $1799 or something like that.. but TVs aren't fun to return when there's nothing wrong with them, so I opted to keep mine.

Got the same exact one from Costco too, 5 year warranty is pretty cool. I was wavering very hard between 55 and 65, I'm fine with the 55 though. It's very nice.

I got the C1 after my B9 met an untimely death. I don't notice too many functional upgrades other than Game Mode and would not have otherwise upgraded. Honestly, I would wholeheartedly recommend any LG OLED at this point as a cream of the crop television. Get a CX if you find a great deal like I did on the B9 or, if you can wait, wait another year or two for LG's EVO panel to trickle down from their G-line. That's their next upgrade in OLED technology.

I do prefer the older WebOS, though. I liked the pop-up bar for app selection that didn't interrupt your current content.

The CX is the best TV I've ever had, specially for gaming. Although the Switch doesn't even comes close to using it's full capabilities (HDR just looks out of this world on an OLED) it's still worth it just for the improved constrast and colors.

Make sure you put it in a dark room though. It's not super bright like a LED panel so sun glare might be a problem

Yes, I forgot the C1 does not have the evo panel, but I still think the wall mounting point should be the deciding factor between the 2 models
