Garbage Galaxy I Have Never Completed A 2D Metroid Game (And Other Confessions)

So this is my confession: I have never completed a 2D Metroid. And I've played them all. I've got close: got to the final boss in Samus Returns and got about 2/3rds of the way through Zero Mission, but something always came up and I've never gone back to them. It's not like I'm a stranger to Metroidvanias either, I've completed most of the IGA Castlevanias, Hollow Knight, Bloodstained, Axiom Verge 1&2 and many, many others but just randomly...not a 2D Metroid. And I've completed the Prime series and a load of other 3D Metroidvanias. I don't get why I've never done it, but I'm 3 bosses down in Metroid: Dread and I'm determined to finish it.

So that is my confession. Feel free to stone me, ostracize me or whatever you like. Or you could post YOUR confessions. Who here has never played a Zelda game? Hmmmmm?

I have never completed Ocarina of Time, but I have watched my brother complete it multiple times. I'll rectify this with N64 NSO!

I have also never finished a 2D Metroid, I plan on changing this by finishing Dread which I think I'm about halfway through.

I've never completed a 2D Zelda game. And the only 3D one I completed was Ocarina of Time and it's the best game a ever played. I got to the second dungeon of Majora, and to the first of Wind Waker. Played a good chunk of ALTTP too.

I never completed a Metroid Prime. Just played a lot of Prime 1 but not sufficient to say I played even though it's halfway point. I completed Super, Fusion and Zero Mission and got to the final(or the one before it) boss of Samus Returns.

I never finished a 3D Mario either. Played most levels of 64 tho but not sufficient to get the stars needed to finish. Only finished Super Mario Bros., World and New(DS).

I don't like the mainline Pokémon games. I like a lot of the spin-offs like Ranger, Mystery Dungeon, Conquest, Puzzle League and you bet I'm getting Legends Arceus, but the main series was never my jam. Not for lack of trying, I played a lot of Blue and Yellow on the N64 (my parents wouldn't allow me to get a GameBoy, so I had to play them via Transfer Pak in Pokémon Stadium), later tried Gen 3 and the Gen 1 remakes and then even later tried again with X, something just didn't click with me.

Also I've never beaten a Fire Emblem game. Own quite a few of them, like the gameplay, but I could never manage to finish one. And, like a doofus, I sold my copy of Path of Radiance and buying it back would cost me 200+ €.

"...and I don't even find Animal Crossing that fun, it's like The Sims for Furries... plus all those pokemans games they are all the same shit to me... and don't even get me started with smash bros, it's a fucking fighting game... that genre stoped being fun in 1999"

... ok son, you're beyond salvation. You have a place in hell with your name on it. Please request your ban.

I have never played a mainline Final Fantasy and at this point I'm too afraid to ask where to start.

I've bought VII on Switch on sale for $7 and a CIB of FF1&2 on GBA for $15, but have yet to play either in any capacity

X is probably the most beginner friendly, the battle system isn't a janky mess like the ATB, and the game introduces FF mainstays stuff like chocobos in a friendly way.

Hmm I guess I'll say I just can't finish long RPGs, even when I like them. I enjoyed Final Fantasy VII, never finished. I had a great time with Dragon Quest XI, but also haven't finished.

Some games are too long for me, no matter how good they may be. Inevitably I want to move on and play something else after a while.

I generally do not enjoy platformers. I've finished Super Mario Bros. 1 (using save states/rewind) and Super Mario Odyssey, and I don't know if I'm going to finish any others.

Breath of the Wild was my first Zelda game. Link's Awakening remake was my second. I might do ALttP on my Snes mini at some point, but haven't yet.

I have not played Ocarina or MM. I got them both for 3DS at one point but my eyes are getting older and I just don't enjoy playing on the tiny screen anymore, so that didn't really work out. I was really hoping for ports to Switch but since Nintendo is more interested in subscription add-ons that I am not interested in, it looks like I still won't be playing them soon.

Not only have I not beaten a Metroid game, I've never beaten a mainline Mario game.

I did get to the final boss of Metroid Prime.

I didn’t play Super Metroid or SOTN until years after both came out. I played Symphony for the first time in 2004 and only played Super Metroid after remembering it existed when I beat Zero Mission.

I also never beat a single Mega Man game until Mega Man X4. I’ve been playing said series since the early 90s. Love em but suck at em!

I’ve only completed OoT 3D version, never the N64 one even though I own it

I consider myself a diehard Metroid fan and haven’t completed the original game ever (same with Zelda and mario)

I’ve never played Golden Sun or Advance Wars

I loved Pokemon Silver and Crystal, but I never went back to SoulSilver. I also loved Pokemon Black but never played Black 2. I blame this mostly on wanting to play the Switch over my 3DS right now.

I only really played the Metroid games from beginning to end this year. Even then, I only did 100% in Metroid Dread (Normal and soon Hard Mode), and Samus Returns (Normal Mode for now, started Fusion Mode a bit ago). I don't like the ShineSpark mechanic, but maybe learning it in Dread I can return to older titles and use the feature properly for 100%.

I can't get into Mega Man or Castlevania games. I'll give the latter a chance again with Castlevania Advance Collection, since I had Circle of the Moon on GBA back in the day, but never finished it. Only game in the series I finished was Lords of Shadow.

I wanted to play Metroid Prime series, but I dropped off of the 1st game expecting a trilogy remake/remaster/port on Switch.

I could never finish any Xenoblade, I get bored to death even though X is the one that clicked the most with me.

Also once i fell asleep while playing Yoshi's woolly world and never inserted that disk again.

I don't think I have ever finished any 2D Mario, ever. Played many until near the end, but finished? Nope.

I have over 300h of Fire Emblem Three Houses yet I'm still on the first route of the three.

I got to the very end of Ocarina of Time, got stuck in the final dungeon, and never beat it. Haven't gone back to it in nearly a decade.

Same thing happened with TTYD and Kingdom Hearts II, except worse - I got to the final boss, lost, and just quit for many years. Did full playthroughs to get back to where I was and won eventually.

It's alright, neither have I
Nor a Final Fantasy, nor a Sonic, nor Assassin's Creed, Resident Evil, Souls, Kingdom Hearts or Kirby

Also didn't really get into video games until the Wii/DS era (only had Game Boy before that), so there are lots of classic games I haven't played

Outside of Nintendo-published games, indies and a few other notable exceptions, you can probably assume if it's western-developed I haven't played it.

BOTW was the first Zelda game I finished, every other game in the franchise I've tried, I've dropped in the first dungeon. Mandatory Zelda Dungeons that stop progression as a concept just don't work for me.

I completed Mario Bros 3 and Super Mario World for the first time only in 2005.

I've never actually beaten Super Mario Brothers 2, 3, or World. I think something about the controls just didn't click with me compared to how modern 2D Mario games control. I also didn't really get into Nintendo games until I got a Wii so I didn't really play them in my childhood (but interestingly enough I took advantage of Wii VC to dive into other classic like Link to the Past, Super Metroid, and Donkey Kong Country). Funnily enough, the only reason I beat Super Mario Brothers is because I picked-up the Deluxe edition for my Gameboy Color thinking it was Super Mario Advance...I was too young to understand the latter was only playable on totally different system lol.

I also only played the DS version of Mario 64.

I didn't get to the third gym in a Pokemon game until playing Moemon Fire Red. Still haven't done it again since.
Maybe I just like cute monster girls more than cute monsters.

Also, I have never owned an N64 and have almost no interest in doing so. Would probably shell out money to chip a Saturn before buying one.

Out of the mainline entries I have only played and finished VII, VII Remake and XV and I recommend all 3. I enjoyed my time with them very much.

My dirtiest confession is that when I was a teenager I would watch ScrewAttack videos and the like, listen to what games said channels said were good, would seek out said game and play about 10 or so minutes of it and pretend I was a fan of it. Skyward Sword was my "favorite game of all time" for awhile all because I saw GameInformer gave it a 10/10. I never even got past the first dungeon until like a year after I got the game. I never really formed my own opinion of anything game related for awhile and it just makes me want to shrivel up into nothingness.

Oh yeah, and I didn't play Skyrim until like 2018 where I played ten minutes of it and decided I didn't like the combat and dropped it.
