Spinning off the thread from last week that asked “how many series have you played five or more games in?”, here we’re asking “how many games are there that you’ve finished five or more times?”. I suspect for a lot of us, this list will be a lot shorter! I know mine is.

For me, all I can think of are:

Super Mario 64
Halo CE
Halo 2
Metroid Dread
Kirby’s Dreamland

Zelda LTTP
ZELDA OOT
Metroid Prime
MARIO 64
DIDDY KONG
STAR Fox
CONTRA
Super Mario Bros
SUPER MARIO WORLD
and the list goes on

0
I presume “beaten” includes doing the bare minimum to roll credits. Only three games for me:
  • Super Mario Bros. 3
  • Super Mario World
  • The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
If I replay a game, I typically only do so two or three times.

none unless you really want to force it and wanna count stuff like a run in a roguelike or a match in a card game as "finishing a game"

0
That's a good question. When I was like 5-7 I mainly played games on MAME or whatever edutainment games I had laying around, and have completed multiple arcade games like 10+ times. Games like Altered Beast, X-Men, The Simpsons, In the Hunt, Bad Dudes, and more games like that.

More "recent" ones would be games like DOOM 2016, Persona 4 Golden, Half-Life 1 & 2, Portal, and Wind Waker.

0
Now that I think of if not that many and the ones I did were mostly in my youth I don't replay to many games now days

Zelda ocarina of time
Mario 64
Star Fox 64 (most times )
Punch out
Wind Waker
Metroid Prime
Goldeneye
Super Mario World

Basically every game I had prior to… 2003 or so. Even the shitty ones. I must’ve finished Gex 3 at least 3 times.

i think the only games i've done this with are the pokemon games that came out between the ages of like 4 to 12 for me, so:

pokemon sapphire
pokemon pearl
pokemon heartgold
pokemon black

my insane childhood pokemon obsession on full display. i would legit play these games over and over as if no other games existed. i have a feeling i beat pearl probably something stupid like 10 times 😭

I think maybe none. Maybe Super Mario World depending on what counts as “beating” the game. Like I have definitely run through all the worlds and beat Bowser at least 5 times. All the exits though, I have only done once. The next most likely candidate is gen 1 pokemon.

Fire Emblem Awakening
Fire Emblem Fates: Revelation
Fire Emblem Three Houses
Mass Effect 2
Mass Effect 3

Most games that I replay - Awakening and Fates included usually - I just get to a certain point where I've achieved what I wanted to achieve, and I just stop.
Awakening and Fates are different partially because some of my favorite Robin ships can only happen right before the Endgame level, and I can save units to use on future Fates playthroughs.

For Mass Effect 2 & 3, it's because I sometimes switch up my Shepard (Male vs Female, Engineer vs Vanguard, Tali/Mrianda/Garrus as romance partners.)

Not many. I rarely replay games, let alone play through them five times.

I mostly did so during the Nintendo 64 era, when I didn't have many games and was finally good enough to finish them. So Banjo-Kazooie, Banjo-Tooie, and Star Fox 64 qualify.

I think Metroid Prime is also up there, as I've revisited it a few times over the years.

0
Luigi's Mansion
Starfox Adventures: Dinosaur Planet
Pikmin
Pikmin 3

Admittedly it's a strange selection to have chosen my time investment, but also I'd recommend any of them over and over again.

Custom Robo misses the mark as my most recent playthrough was about 8 years ago for the third time, but I really should pop it back in again for shiggles

Too long to list. I'm a massive Game Boy fan and the games it had usually were done within 3-4 hours. So we had to replay them over and over again. If I had to make an estimation... 80% of them? A quite number of them I had beaten more than 10 times even.

This was no different on SNES/Mega Drive also. Lots of short games. Play them countless of times for high scores. All three Streets of Rage and Final Fight games could be well over 50 times.

I think I've done at least 9.

OG Ace Attorney Trilogy
OG Professor Layton trilogy
PLvsAA
Sonic 3 and Knuckles
Super Mario Bros 3

There's probably more, but those are the only ones I can remember for sure.

I started listing the games but I was maybe 15 games deep before I remember Paper Mario 64 and TTYD so I'm just gonna say more than 20. Played a lot of NES/SNES/64 games as a kid. And there are a couple Playstation games but I've been playing games since a controller could be put in my hand. Replaying games is something I've always done and continue to do to this day lol.

There was a period when we were kids where Sonic 2 was the only game we had that was two player so me and my brother just played it over and over.

I think that childhood tale of woe and StarFox 64, Super Mario Bros & Donkey Kong (Which are on everything and can be finished super quickly) are literally the only ones.

There's some where I'm like "yes, absolutely, no way I didn't", and then some others that I'm, like, "I definitely played that a ton, but have I actually done 5 separate to-credits run-throughs?" about
At least one of every paired Pokemon from Gen 1 to probably 6
Pokemon Snap
Super Mario Bros
Mario 64
Mario Sunshine
Mario Odyssey
Luigi's Mansion
Kirby's Adventure/Nightmare in Dreamland
Chrono Trigger (is this cheating because of the multiple endings?)
Yoshi's Island
Ocarina of Time
Mario Land 2
Mario 3D Land
Portal
Assassin's Creed Brotherhood
Batman Arkham Asylum
Sonic Mania
Sonic 2
Sonic Adventure 2
Hades (are roguelikes cheating?)
Stanley Parable (ok this one's definitely cheating)
Shovel Knight
Spider-Man 2 (the one based on the movie)
Lego Star Wars (probably both the prequel and original trilogy ones)
Toy Story 2

0
Final Fantasy 7
Mario RPG
Megaman X
Pokémon Red

Perhaps dr Mario
Maybe Mario world
Mario 3D land I got all the stars on the save file can’t remember how many times you have to beat that game

If you lower the times to 3 then my list jumps a significant amount

You guys finish games?
you-guys-are-getting-paid-template-h6wxf.jpg

Honestly can't think of a single game I've beaten 5 times, let alone more.

This depends on how we’re count different versions, rereleases, etc. since for games like Pokémon which I replay frequently I imagine it would be quite high with all of that accommodated. As a kid I also replayed platformers a lot since they were relatively short and getting new games without disposable income wasn’t super common. I know for sure I’ve played MGS1 over a dozen times, not even counting Twin Snakes. It’s my all time favorite game.

So if we include things like remasters, Pokémon versions, etc. it’s definitely above 10. If we’re only talking about like, games with a specific SKU? That gets more uncertain. But for the sake of it I’ll vote 10.

Same. When you were broke, you wore the games you had into the ground lol.
Well, back in those NES/SNES days, most games took less time to complete and it definitely helped being a kid/teenager as you didn’t have to worry about adulting and shit. 😆

Just the usual suspects, I think:

  • Castlevania RoB, SotN, CotM
  • Chrono Trigger
  • Final Fight
  • Resident Evil 2, 4, 5
  • Super Mario Bros 1, 2, 3, and World
  • Starfox
  • TLoZ A Link To the Past and Link's Awakening
And a bunch of fighting/party/racing/sports games that are meant for replays. Dropping the criteria down to four playthroughs would add a lot more games to that list (at least Dragon's Dogma, Super Metroid, Zero Mission, Prime, Dread, NSMB Wii).

Not counting rougelites and games of that sort of nature:

Metroid Prime 1-3
Super Metroid
Metroid Zero Mission I think?
Ocarina of Time
Viewtiful Joe
Pokemon sapphire/emerald
Paper mario 64
No More Heroes

I don't expect for this list to grow since I have less free time now although xenoblade 1/2 are approaching 5 playthroughs

Oh God. Probably quite a few I forgot but definitely.

Resident Evil 2
Resident Evil 4
DOOM
DOOM 2
Super Mario 64
Super Mario Bros
Super Mario World
Zelda NES
Zelda ALTTP
Zelda OoT
Zelda TP
Zelda WW
Duke Nukem 64
Pokemon Red/Blue
Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal
Metroid Prime
Metroid Dread
Sonic the Hedgehog
Sonic 2
Sonic 3
Sonic and Knuckles

0
LoZ: Phantom Hourglass
Pokemon SoulSilver
Pokemon Black and White and Black and White 2
Pokemon Ranger: Shadow of Almia
Pokemon Conquest.
Kingdom Hearts: Coded
Basically all the games I had on the ds since it's the only system I had for years

Throw in whatever sonic game was on the ds that had Blaze

My list would go

Mass effect 1, 2, and 3. (I’ve probably beaten the entire trilogy well over 20 times at this point)

Sonic adventure 1

Super Mario galaxy

Super Mario world

Aladin snes

Donkey Kong country 1 and 2

Halo 1, 2, 3, 4, and reach

Resident evil 2 and 3 remakes

Assassins creed 2

Gears of war 1

Fable 2

None. Realizing myself so not PRO gamer.
I do give a lot of chances to start-over but never survive to the ending.

I think just Pokemon X and Fire Emblem Three Houses. I don’t remember how many times I’ve played Pokemon X but I’d guess it’s around 5 times, and I’ve beaten Three Houses 6 times.

Hmm…at the very least:

Super Mario 64
Super Metroid
The Legend of Zelda A Link To The Past
Kirby Super Star
Yoshi’s Island
Chrono Trigger
Super Mario RPG
Kingdom Hearts II
Shadow of the Colossus
Perfect Dark
Halo 3
Cave Story
Metroid Prime
Portal
River City Girls
Scott Pilgrim Vs The World
The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time
Uncharted 2
Gears of War 2
Diablo II

There’s probably a good few others I have, but can’t distinctly say with confidence. Also stuff like some final levels I’ve played through multiple times and have seen credits roll more than five times, but I wouldn’t count. Probably some obvious stuff I’m forgetting too.

Super Mario 64
Pokemon R/B/Y
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
Phoenix Wright: Justice For All

I think those would be the only ones.

0
Chrono Trigger
Doom and Doom II
Duke Nukem 3D
Fallout 2
Starcraft
Diablo and Diablo 2
Crash Bandicoot 1 to 3 (several times on PS1, N sane trilogy on Xbox One and Switch)
Mass Effect 1 to 3 at least 10 times on Xbox360 and two times the Legendary Edition on Xbox One
Dino Crisis 2
Spyro 1 to 3

As a kid and young teen I finished some games multiple times. As I recall, those were:

  • Super Mario Bros (NES)
  • Super Mario Bros 2 (NES)
  • Metroid (NES)
  • Castlevania (NES)
  • Super Mario Land (GB)
  • R-Type (GB)
  • The Legend of Zelda (NES)
  • Punch Out (NES)
  • Gargoyle's Quest (GB)
  • Turrican 2 (Amiga 2000)
  • Chrono Trigger (SNES)
  • Super Turrican (SNES)
  • Star Fox (SNES)
  • Lylat Wars (N64)
  • Resident Evil 2 (N64)
  • Resident Evil Remake (GC)

Yeah, I think that's pretty much it, I did not finish any game multiple times after the Gamecube era (Roguelikes like Hades do not count for me). Games became far too long for me and most of the time I do not finish them at all nowadays, I began to buy way too many games as a grown up as soon as I started working and my two decades - backlog does not interest me anymore.

One.

I've never been compelled to return to a game more than once to complete it, my ADHD usually puts paid to any notions in that respect.

But I have become so obsessed with a game that I completed it more than once, to 100%, on three different formats.

That game was Resident Evil 4.

I think not a single one. Pokemon Red/Blue and Super Mario World could be close so 5 times maybe.

I’d say there was a huge drop off once we got to the 3D era and I couldn’t finish a playthrough in a single evening any more.

On the NES, SNES and GB, every game I had as a kid (outside of 2 or 3 rpgs) would I have finished dozens of times. Everything from multiple contra, Megaman, Mario, Zelda, Castlevania games, through to the shmups and beat em ups. You could play through Streets of Rage or Megaman games in an hour or so and I probably did so at least every couple of months.

In the last 25 years or so though, on games more than, say, six hours long, it’s a pretty short list.

Most of the Fire Emblem games
Zelda: The Minish Cap, OOT and LBW
Monster Hunter Stories
Ys VIII
Dragon Quest XI

Once a playthrough goes over 30 hours it’s extremely unlikely I’ll touch it again. There’s just too many other games to play these days and time is my main constraint.

Top of my head…

Ocarina Of Time
Pokémon Yellow (or other gen 1, I forget)
Super Mario World
Witcher 3
Fire Emblem Awakening
Xenoblade 1
Xenoblade 2

Back in the days when I got like 4 NES games a year.. maybe 5.
There were a lot of replays :)

Cant remember them all for sure, but most certainly these:

NES:
Super Mario Bros
Super Mario Bros 2
Super Mario Bros 3
Probotector (Contra)
Gun.Smoke
Track & Field II
Gold Medal Challenge
Super Off Road
Duck Tales
Chip n Dale Rescue Rangers
Bubble Bobble
Dr.Mario
Mega Man 2
Mega Man 3
North & South
Turtles II The Arcade Game
Super Bomberman
NES Open Golf

The late 80's and early 90's wasnt really the same, so for anyone growing up with the NES/Master System/SNES/Mega Drive are probably going to have more games that they have beaten more times.

These days while I probably play as much as I used to (probably not, but not far from) I absolutely almost never replay a game. It's very rare - because there's so much more to play and also, there's more money to play with.

Not that many (and listed in probably the order which I have done so the most)

-Sonic The Hedgehog 1,2,3, 3 and Knuckles
-Zelda: Links Awakening
-Resident Evil 2 (going for those high ranks and unlocks)
-Metal Gear Solid 2
-Super Mario Bros (probably got tipped over the edge by Nintendo World Championships

Pokemon Pearl
pokemon Platinum
Bloodborne
Dark souls 3

Other games i think I played them max 3 times

0
Metroid Zero Mission
Metroid Fusion
Metroid Dread
DBZ: The Legacy of Goku II
Spongebob: Battle for Bikini Bottom
Pokémon LeafGreen
Pokémon HeartGold
Pokémon Sapphire
Pokémon Alpha Sapphire
Pokémon Pearl
Pokémon Black
Uncharted 3
Kingdom Hearts II
Batman Arkham City
TES V: Skyrim

Wow, more than I thought, lol. I've played other games in these series multiple (at least 3) times as well! Series with honorable mentions include Mega Man and Fire Emblem.

0
definitely more than 10 games, with half of them being fire emblem games.
Off the top of my head:

Super mario 64 (over 10 times)
Super mario galaxy
Super mario 3d world + bowser fury (3d world i’ve beaten over 15 times)
Super mario sunshine
Fire emblem awakening
Fire emblem sacred stones
Fire emblem three houses
Fire emblem binding blade
Fire emblem blazing sword
Ninja gaiden NES (probably 20 times)
Castlevania (same as ninja gaiden)
Panel de pon
Donkey kong country
Donkey kong country tropical freeze
Zelda ocarina of time
Kirby dreamland
Pokemon emerald
Metroid dread

probably more games that don’t come to mind.
As you can see all this games are on a portable system, when I don’t have a lot of time I prefer to just play something familiar for a quick session and portable systems are the best way for it.

Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros 3, Super Mario World, Super Mario 64, Ocarina of Time, Crash Bandicoot 2, Crash Bandicoot 3, the whole DKC trilogy, Star Fox, Star Fox 64, Rayman 2, Wario Land 4... Not much else I think

Many and more. Let's give this a shot:

Hollow Knight
Super Mario Bros.
Super Mario Bros. 2 USA
Super Mario Bros. 3
Super Mario World
Final Fantasy
Final Fantasy IV
Final Fantasy VI
Final Fantasy VII
The Legend of Zelda
Zelda II: The Adventure of Link
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (across all versions)
Super Metroid
Chrono Trigger
Secret of Mana
Super Mario RPG
Contra
Crystalis
EarthBound
Life Force (aka Salamander)
Mega Man 2
Limbo
Infernax
Sonic the Hedgehog
Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Aladdin (Sega Genesis version)
Streets of Rage
Streets of Rage 2
Street Fighter 2
Mortal Kombat
Castlevania II: Simon's Quest
Disney’s Duck Tales
Ninja Gaiden 2: The Dark Sword of Chaos
TMNT: The Arcade Game
Blaster Master (I made it to the last boss like 7-8 times before I finally beat it, so I’m gonna count it)

Probably many more. Between 1988-1998 basically all I did was play video games lol

Roguelikes:
I'm gonna include Binding of Isaac Afterbirth/Repentance on here because I got Dead God, which requires you to beat the game like literally 500 times and took me roughly 1,200 hours to complete.
Also Enter the Gungeon because I got the Platinum.

A better question would be how many games have I beaten 20+ times: Two. Super Metroid and Super Mario Bros. 2 USA. I used to speedrun those games. 🙂
