We're celebrating the release of Tears of the Kingdom. Check out the thread here!

It's not confirmed whether or not the funcles were referring to the Q Lite.Man, the recent smoke around screens and funcles amounting to the fucking Q Lite of all things is some real darkest timeline shit. Early 2024 at the earliest
giving you a copy of amiibo festival so you know nintendo is capable of putting out soulless garbage
Something they can already get with Nvidia while retaining their independence.Powerful lower power usage chipset, but this is on the assumption that Apple buys them.
Metroid Prime 4 release is still TBA wink winkThings are about to get very interesting. As the page turns from the Tears of the Kingdom launch, we start to look down the barrel of....Pikmin 4 and nothing else.
Nintendo will have to communicate something big either way at some point in the next 4-6 weeks. Either a new console announcement, or a bunch of big new games for this fall and next spring.
Definitely, but the fact that it seems to be a realistic possibility nonetheless...It's not confirmed whether or not the funcles were referring to the Q Lite.
Praise be the sun brothers, as we stay on the OLED path. Leave the LCD for the Sony peasants🤭Man, the recent smoke around screens and funcles amounting to the fucking Q Lite of all things is some real darkest timeline shit. Early 2024 at the earliest
Process nodes are only one part of the equation with respect to hardware. How hardware's designed is equally as important as which process node is being used to fabricate said hardware.Apple's M1/M2/M3 Silicon is rather impressive and games like Resident Evil 8 can run on it without too many issues at least compared to the PS5 and Series X, MetalFX is not as impressive in some cases, but it does show Apple does have an advantage with getting newer nodes before other companies.
I can only think of the following:What does the current Nintendo get out of this, though?
Frankly nothing that outweighs a lot of cons including Apple’s inability or want for anything game related that isn’t just being a storefront to sell them on.What does the current Nintendo get out of this, though?
literally nothing. someone just gave into their intrusive thoughtsWhat's this about Nintendo and Apple? O_O Did I miss something?
Basically Smash Kirby was talking about a hypothetical scenario about Apple acquiring Nintendo, considering there were rumours about Apple acquiring Disney, which I find dubious. What's this about Nintendo and Apple? O_O Did I miss something?

yall are really, REALLY over rating things hereThe new Rune Factory, also from Marvelous, has Genshin-like graphics and is a significant improvement over RF5.
Assuming it is made in Unity like RF5, I doubt it will run on the Switch.
Since the platform was unannounced, is it possible that this is being developed for [REDACTED]?

Chip designer Arm is limiting its "blue sky" research with the closure of a flagship tech division and rechanneling its efforts into more commercially viable products ahead of this year’s hotly anticipated public listing.
The Cambridge-headquartered company disbanded Arm Research last year as part of a strategy implemented by chief executive Rene Haas that involved cutting up to 15 per cent of jobs across the business. Arm said at the time that the majority of cuts would focus on general, administrative and other non-engineering functions.
John Biggs, an Arm co-founder who led some of the division's work partnering with universities to research future applications of chip technology, moved into a part-time role, according to people briefed on the move. Biggs, who has now also joined Pragmatic Semiconductor, another UK chip company in which Arm is an investor, did not reply to a request for comment.
Several former employees who left the chip designer last year say the closure of Arm Research, which employed around 150 people, demonstrated a drive by the company to reduce speculative research into the future of the sector and instead focus on proven and potentially commercial product development.
"It was about moving the focus to nearer term product development, with less focus on blue sky research," said a former employee who said he left the group because of the closure of the department. "It's a shame and it's faced a lot of backlash internally from people who think it's very short-sighted."
A person close to the company said that more than half the people working in Arm Research were redeployed into other parts of the organisation. "Blue sky" research is still being carried out, the person said, "but with a stronger link to the future direction of the business", adding that the company is looking 10 years into the future in several areas.
Arm "had to keep a sensible control of investments", they added.
The UK group's owner SoftBank is hoping to raise billions of dollars by floating Arm in New York this year as it seeks to turn around its fortunes having posted record annual investment losses of ¥5.3tn ($39bn) for the fiscal year to the end of March.
Ensuring that the chip designer is a lean business with compelling growth prospects is central to attracting investors to what is billed to be one of this year's largest IPOs.
Arm Research was started more than 20 years ago, when the company had 200 employees, to dig further into the chip industry beyond the immediate products and applications of the day. In recent years, the division had studied the use of low-power sensors to turn battery-powered energy sources on and off, AI supercomputers that mirror the human brain and novel materials and circuits for semiconductors.
Assuming the rumour from the Financial Times is true, disbanding the materials, devices, and circuits groups seems like a huge mistake on Arm's part."Arm is focused on getting products out of the door, but not on the long term, which explains why I decided to leave," said one employee who stepped down last year amid the reshuffle. "Long-term investments maybe don't look [as] good in a pre-IPO [profit and loss statement]."
Arm Research had "ended up doing research in areas that aren't so relevant to the business", said a person briefed on the chip designer's thinking. "Other [research areas] had no route to the products the company is developing."
Some areas, including machine learning and chip design architecture, have been moved elsewhere within the company. The materials, devices and circuits groups, which has now been disbanded, explored "innovative fundamental technologies, enabling applications which are not yet possible", an Arm Research impact report from 2021 said.
"One key area of focus lies in how we can help to evolve future silicon and system design, given the fact that silicon scaling by traditional methods is slowing," the report said.
Arm declined to comment.
Man, the recent smoke around screens and funcles amounting to the fucking Q Lite of all things is some real darkest timeline shit. Early 2024 at the earliest
I'm just shocked they're making a sequel to Daemon X Machina and it was casually put out there like this.
Things are just happening nowadays.
Side-eyes at Nintendo Maybe someone could shadow drop out of nowhere an announcement of the new console, that would be nice.

Ban's still strong. Point being is that rank doesn't make right.Wasn't that years ago?
This would make sense if these didn't exist and were sold and manufactured by the same company:This is what Sony have said is their strategy though, upselling more expensive accessories to existing, brand-loyal customers (like those other super expensive premium looking Playstation earbuds they showed off in the presentation) rather than trying to increase their existing customer base. They're utilising their existing, strong consumer base to grow and extract more revenue.
Anyone who thinks the Q Lite is anything more than a side project/accessory is mistaken. It's not meant to target the Switch market, just for those who want a more premium way to do remote play than on their phone which likely has super wide screen which is also small. The Q Lite has an 8 inch, 16:9 screen which gives it the premium reputation.
Yes.Are you talking about Era? I'm out of the loop.
To me this just look like they upgraded their visual style nicely, which doesn't mean necessarily it will be harder for the Switch to run. RF5 was just a mess technically. See also: Engage looking much better than Three Houses, or Atelier Ryza looking and running much better than previous Atelier on Switch. The new Rune Factory, also from Marvelous, has Genshin-like graphics and is a significant improvement over RF5.

I concur with karmitt. It doesn’t make sense that the Factory Uncle(s) would confuse the Project Q with the Switch 2. Just by looking at it you know it isn’t a Switch.
I was banned for "racism", appealed and explained that I was sure that everyone would know the reference and that my post wasn't racist, nor am I racist in anyway. I'm multilingual, multicultural, would normally be considered pretty "woke" but no, they continued smugly smelling their own farts and told me to fuck off. Their loss not mine AFAIK.These things happen. I was banned from Kotaku for telling off an article being late to the party about One Piece's 4kids dub months after Funimation took over.
I've heard things about Era and if it's true about those guys banning at the drop of a hat, I'm truly sorry you went through that.
Me? I don't regret what I did. I'd do it again a thousand times more because the "news" is supposed to be about keeping current.
It's a PS5 controller chopped in half with a screen in the middle. The only way a funcle could have mistaken that for a Nintendo device is if they were a parent from the late 80s/early 90s who called every gaming device "a Nintendo", and somehow got magically transported to the year 2023 and got a job in an electronics manufacturing facility.Definitely, but the fact that it seems to be a realistic possibility nonetheless...
Could be the age of an Uncle of adults like us so sounds legit. It's a PS5 controller chopped in half with a screen in the middle. I like it.That PS5 Mee TU handheld thingie comes with all the tech shenanigans of the Dual Sense?
Boy, i don't see this being any cheap/affordable.
Who thought this was a good idea?
Yeah, I understand the niche it fills, even if it's not something I'm interested in (I don't even have a PS5 to begin with, anyway). I think people are going to be disappointed on price, though, as they're going to be charging those big fat accessory margins.I actually like the Q-lite. If I owned a PS5 and the pice was right, I would probably consider it.
I mostly play my Switch in handheld mode in my home anyway.
$50 less than a PS5? No way.$349
Yeah I'd imagine this is meant for the Steam Deck market, moreso than the Switch's. Everybody I know who has an SD doesn't use it as a portable console, but rather as a bedside system to chill out and play games on in bed. For that use case, Sony's "I sawed this controller in half, and fixed it withI totally get it tbh.
It's of no interest to me as I only game on my TV but being able to have Switch like portable gaming (albeit only at home) will appeal to plenty I imagine,
Many people said the same thing about PSVR costing more than a PS5, yet here we are. Sony takes a loss on console hardware (at least at launch, they're probably at least break even now), but makes healthy margins on accessories, which makes everything look like poor value compared to the console itself. The Q is very much an accessory, so will be priced as such.$50 less than a PS5? No way.
Yeah, it's very much a reaction to the Steam Deck rather than the Switch. I own a Steam Deck and can attest that it's for gaming on the couch, not travelling with. I can understand what they're going with for the design here, given portability isn't a priority, but I feel like they could have done something to make the design look cohesive.Yeah I'd imagine this is meant for the Steam Deck market, moreso than the Switch's. Everybody I know who has an SD doesn't use it as a portable console, but rather as a bedside system to chill out and play games on in bed. For that use case, Sony's "I sawed this controller in half, and fixed it withonly Flex Tapea screen!" Q Lite works. It's not pretty, but it works.
Especially those who share tvs, with a non gamer.I totally get it tbh.
It's of no interest to me as I only game on my TV but being able to have Switch like portable gaming (albeit only at home) will appeal to plenty I imagine,
I mean… it fits this lol:I mean just how likely is it that they wouldn't notice that its a split dual sense with a screen as opposed to something like the Switch? It just seems so farfetched that somebody would make that mistake and be engaged with a gaming forum.
Ignoring the fact that you're generalising a lot of what they're doing (world exists beyond their first party attempts, which while I agree don't appeal to me, clearly must be appealing to some based on their success)...Are they deciding to make more than half their projects live service games and desperately throwing everything at the wall in the hopes something sticks? Thought so.
Nintendo has made rather questionable game decisions in the past for sure however you simply cannot compare the two in the industry's current state and with what we know of Sony's projected plans for the future. They are only going to get worse from here on-in as they are focusing on the wrong things, they've reached PS3 level era's of ego and hubris mixed with mismanagement of resources in a push on an overreliance of trying to capitalise on something that has already proven to be a massive risk that will 9/10 times fail miserably and damage your brand reputation and for good reason. It will be inevitable to watch unfold, especially given how this first batch of live service titles is panning out already online, all of them will be dead within a year of launch.
It's like the example I stated earlier, would you honestly be okay and happy if Nintendo dedicated more than half of their talent to these sorts of games? I don't think you would, considering what they are actually capable of making. When you consider how long it takes to make a AAA video game these days, when you have a lot of resources being invested in chasing this dragon, it will take years to see any proper games again when you know where the investment is going to and how much wasted time going down the drain there is using real talent to deliberately create games that are designed from top to bottom to be inherently predatory and extract money from gamers, particularly vulnerable gamers who are explicitly at risk from those kinds of practices. That is more soulless to me than even Mario Ultra Smash Tennis and that's saying something. At least that game doesn't ask you to pay $15 for a court or to unlock Luigi or something.
I can never really see any justification for this sort of thing in the industry, I don't agree with it and I think a lot of Devs don't really agree with it either but are forced into it. It's usually driven more by top brass, investors and shareholders more so than actual normal people who simply want to make video games that are fun and engaging to play. I can think of a number of games where it really was forced and shoe-horned in when it didn't need to be and I seriously don't think any Dev worth their salt would've been happy to take something they've worked on for years and upend it to throw in a cash shop, intentionally ruin their game design to funnel players into that direction then proceed to have to design ways to continuously keep players engaged in a predatory cycle of time sink that can redirect them to where the live service really wants you to go. Enjoying games as simply games? Nah, get real, games aren't meant to be fun they're meant to be a "second job," something, something a Square Enix CEO once said.
Well Nintendo will almost certainly be affected by this since they will need to keep up with the latest advances in technology or they'll literally be phased out. 4K Nintendo games with more complexity will exist at some point, just like HD Nintendo games came into existence and that will impact development capacities just as you're blaming Sony for. I wish we didn't chase visuals but it's just how the industry isWhen you consider how long it takes to make a AAA video game these days, when you have a lot of resources being invested in chasing this dragon
No offense but if you think Nintendo execs aren't as bad they you've totally fell for the "family friendly/good guy" marketing. They're just much better at disguising their scummy behaviors. There are no good guys in this industry and I'm tired of people pretending this is the case, it's just that some companies like Sony know they can get away with it more openly and also easier due to brand history and reputation. Nintendo have a family friendly reputation to keep up so can't do that as easily and need to disguise similar behaviours. It's usually driven more by top brass, investors and shareholders more so than actual normal people who simply want to make video games that are fun and engaging to play

This is better than the Backbone for some people since it displays it at the appropriate aspect ratio, with a much larger screen, much more comfortable format and you can also save your phone's battery/keep it usable while you play this.for those who want a more premium way to do remote play than on their phone which likely has a super wide screen which is also small. Sony wasn't putting out what you perceive as rubbish... Until they were. It doesn't just happen overnight, it takes a gradual shift. Never take things for granted. We also thought Nintendo would never ever implement paid online, their own version of microtransactions (amiibo), do release now finish later/minimum viable product software releases, artificial scarcity in releases, predatory gacha mobile games, drop the Nintendo selects line, release mass market controllers that are literally proven to malfunction early (just like Dualsense and Xbox controllers), taking longer and longer to release their games thanks to HD development - to the point that they had to merge handheld and home development lines to keep up to the demands (right decision though!), even releasing DLC packs for games.
If you said any of this to a Nintendo fan 15 years ago they would've laughed you out of the room and said you must be on something. Perhaps Sony's focus to live service games will come back to bite them, maybe not, but the truth is that in the industry nothing is guaranteed and times change, as much as I hate it.
What I think is true is that the Nintendo developers want to create fun games and they are truly a special bunch, but at the end of the day they need to respond to the people in charge of them, and Nintendo is a publicly traded company, they are not immune to these behaviors or trends. When these exploitative tactics do strike, people just rationalise them (when it comes to their company of choice be it Sony, Nintendo or Xbox) and move on, while blaming the other companies for X other behaviour, shifting the goalpost eternally. Rinse and repeat.
Most people I know who have a Switch don't use it as a portable console either lmao last truly handheld console was 3DS/Vita imo, unless you have a Switch Lite then that just about counts imoYeah I'd imagine this is meant for the Steam Deck market, moreso than the Switch's. Most people don't and won't care about OLED on mobile devices unless it's advertised to them, if a good quality phone OLED screen (on normal/natural picture setting, not the default vivid that many ship with) and good quality phone IPS LCD screen were side by side I'd guarantee most average consumers (i.e. not you and me) wouldn't be able to tell or probably even care. It's more a question of whether the screen is "good enough" and this Q Lite screen will almost definitely make that.Problem is, that only would make sense as a more premium device if the display was competitive with what most phones have nowadays (it isn't).
It's an LCD 720p screen and the thing seems also too big to fit in a pocket (unlike the phone grip).
Had it been at least OLED and announced at ~99$ then I could see the point.
