Argonaut Games, the legendary studio known for bringing its pioneering 3D technology to a 2D gaming world in the 1980s, has returned after a 20-year hiatus. It became a household name to gamers worldwide by developing groundbreaking titles, including the classics Starglider and Starglider 2, the seminal Star Fox (in collaboration with Nintendo), and Croc Legend of the Gobbos.

The reborn Argonaut Games continues the legacy established by Jez San OBE in 1982, now as a boutique publisher driven by creativity and developer collaboration. Possessing a catalog of classic gaming IP combined with a roadmap of original games, we hope you will join us as we embark on this exciting new chapter in Argonaut’s history.
The world has collectively decided that no platforming mascot gets left behind in the past, it seems. (except Rayman. Thanks, Ubisoft!)

it looks like they've shifted the controls a bit to be detached from the old tank control/ camera to turn style, atleast it looked that way from the footage. Being legit for a moment I loved this game as a kid and if it's cheap enough I'd be so down to buy this and give it a new go.

But when will it be the turn of- no, they already did Zool... But when- no, they did Dizzy too...

Ahem... BUT WHEN WILL IT BE THE TURN OF BUG!, JAZZ JACKRABBIT, AND COMMANDER KEEN???

I have always wanted to play this. Can't wait for it's release. But also, the news of new original games is also super exciting.

I didn't own a Playstation growing up but I remember playing Croc at a neighbor's house and I absolutely loved what I played of it. Would be excited to finally give it a real try.
Same here, except it was my cousin's PS. I managed to find a demo of the PC port afterwards and just played the everloving shit outta that one little piece of the game 😅. Can't wait to play it in full!

Finally, a new generation can experience Croc's scrimblo bimblo ass boss names, like Tooty the Feeble and Flibby.

One of those games that I really wanted to play as a kid (I think I had a VHS with a commercial for it) but never did. Glad I’ll soon be able to rectify that!

Buy this all so that the sequel will be remastered as well. Croc 2 was one of my first games. I played the first one as well but i have more nostalgia for it's sequel.

I finally have an excuse to post this excellent video:

:)
When we started to look at the possibility of bringing back Croc Legend of the Gobbos and relaunching Argonaut Games we began by researching whether or not people still remembered or cared enough to justify doing so. We quickly concluded that yes, it was worth it and got to work.

What we hadn't completely understood until our announcement earlier this week was the enormous, stupendous, incredible amount of love for Croc, and judging by the comments quite a few other classic Argonaut games too.

There have been numerous questions about Croc's platforms, controls, features and so on, and we will reveal all of that information in the coming weeks, along with some other fun announcements.

Thank you all for your overwhelming support. We can't wait to get the game in your hands. Yazoo!!!

The Team at Argonaut Games

I'm trying to think of what else they can remaster. They don't have tons of games in their portfolio, lots of licensed stuff and some belong to their publishers.

I think the slate should be this:

Croc
Croc 2
Red Dog
FX Fighter
i-Ninja (i think this is a lock. the game is a cult classic)
Buck Bumble (only if Ubi lets them use the IP. it belongs to them and Ubi is not the one to give away IP's like that)

I loved this game so f---ing much as a kid!

It was the first PS1 game I ever played; my family had an N64 and my best mate had a PS1, so we'd play each other's consoles when we visited. Along with Crash, Spyro, and Banjo, Croc was such a beloved part of my childhood, and to this day reminds me of carefree days spent with friends.

I really hope it looks and runs nicely on Switch.

I had Croc on the gameboy color. all I remember was being so fucking lost in that game, lol

as for this, I hate the look of it. like someone took PS1 textures and ran it through one of those hideous upscalers that turn all the detail into blobby lines

Now the question is, who ist behind new Argonaut? Didn't a big part of the team join Nintendo and later left, to make their own games? Dylan Cuthbert and Giles Goddard where the most prominent of them?

The 3 game programmers (Cuthbert, Goddard, Wombell) were contracted to Nintendo to work in Kyoto with the EAD development team. None of those three programmers ever returned to work for Argonaut.

There was Colin Reed too, who joined Nintendo and developed 1080, Metroid Prime Hunters and 1080 Avalanche. And many ex Argonaut devs landet at Rocksteady Games. So maybe after the recent layoffs they got back.

Camera still looks pretty bad based on the trailer? I'll need to play it to see. I am 100% on board to replay croc but I just can't do platforming tank controls and poor camera.

I mean, it's hard to make a Rayman better than Rayman Legends imo
Yet Origins was even better.

I think a free camera would remove some of the games challenge. It's like how people say that Mario 64 with a free camera would make the game way too easy, or resident evil. Its one of those games that is balanced around the limitations of the movement and camera. That being said it should totally be an option

I played a tiny bit of this as a kid, potentially interested in a remaster. I font think I could do tank controls on a platformer again though
