Controller Thread

Which controller and stick layout do you guys like the most?

I currently own Xbox Series and Switch Pro controllers, as well as an 8bitdo pro 2. Can't really decide which one I like the most, they're all pretty good but also have certain issues. I used to own a DS4, too but sold it with the ps4. Has anyone here gotten the DualSense for PC? What's your experience been like?

Xbox One/Series is the best controller I've ever used in my life. Microsoft's R&D costs paid off in spades.

I do prefer using the DualSense for 2D games nowadays, though.

That said, my favorite classic controller has got to be the SNES pad. The Saturn pad is pretty great, and maybe I'm blinded by nostalgia, but the SNES pad is still just sublime.

Favorite? Right now Xbox Series controller and Dualsense. Both are fantastic and enjoy for different reasons.

Switch Pro is the GOAT, but I'm partial to the PS controller, too. Such a classic! Haven't used the PS5 controller yet, but of the ones I have used the DS4 has gotta be the best!

Special shoutouts to the XBone controller (never owned an Xbox but have used this controller before and it feels really nice) and the Gamecube controller--another nostalgic classic ❤️

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl has made me aware of a flaw with my Switch Pro controller that I'd forgotten even existed. Flicking the stick in one direction often causes an input in the other direction as it returns to center. I think I forgot this happened because Smash Ultimate let me adjust stick sensitivity and it wasn't an issue in any other game.

Yeah, I like it a lot too, it fits in my hands very nicely but the d-pad is barely functional and it can be a pain to get it working on PC sometimes.
That's true. I've never had too much trouble with the d-pad personally, though... although I also don't play that many games that require it. Even with like... NES and SNES NSO games I'm the heretic that uses the control stick instead of the d-pad lol. Never tried using it on PC tho, I usually just use the PS4 bluetooth or plug in an Xbone controller via USB.

Series X controller for everything that isn't Switch, for which I use either a Pro Controller or a wreless GC controller. Been meaning to pick up a Design Lab controller for my Series X, but can't decide between getting a DualShock 1 inspired design, or a Glacier Blue one (they seemingly changed the color from the XB1 version, and I can't find pictures of the new one).

Although I have qualms with the D-Pad, I love how the Switch Pro Controller's face buttons are ever so slightly larger and more spread out rather than just being in a pure diamond in comparison to other controllers (that last bit is kinda like the SNES controller, too). That being said I have no trouble using a DualShock or DualSense, though I can't say that I've had significant experience with an Xbox controller. My go-to PC controller is the SN30 Pro+, which also has the wider button spread.

While the Switch Pro is the most comfortable to hold and best feeling buttons, due to stick placement and the awesome d-pad, Wii U Pro controller is the answer for me.

I like my sticks at the bottom.

My favorite is the Series X/Elite v2 controller. It just feels right in my hands and it's comfortable. Also works for just about every PC game out there out of the box.

I'm in love with the xbox series x d-pad, but batteries and no gyro is kinda shit.
The one I feel the most comfortable and complete is the Switch Pro, but then I tried the PS5 triggers and I was blown away.
Oh god, I wish Nintendo will use those triggers for the succ.

I always loved the Xbox 360 controller (except the D-pad) and even tough I had a PS1 growing up, I could never stand the symmetrical sticks.
Thats why I'm glad that the Switch Pro controller has Asymmetrical sticks.

I do think that the Series Controller is a little bit better than the Switch Pro controller because of analog shoulder buttons.

I gotta give credit where it's due to the XSX controller. Ergonomic, lightweight, responsive control sticks and buttons, dpad that may not be as iconic as Nintendo's but at least works like it should. My only gripe (and a minor, personal one at that) is that the analog triggers have too much give. The Gamecube controller still has the best analog triggers for having the right balance of resistance, springiness, a satisfying click at the end, and designed to ensure your fingers stay in place and don't slip off when pressed down on them.

Though the Switch Pro controller has helped immensely in making the transition in controller inputs from Gamecube when playing Smash Ultimate, so I do appreciate it there even if its Dpad registers false inputs and the triggers are digital only trash. Much as I love the bean buttons, eventually I'll have to concede to that a Smash Bros game will come one day that won't support the GC controller.

The Elite series 2 is my favorite followed closely by the series controller, but I also really like the feel of the Switch pro controller. The DualSense is the only one I don't really like, my hands start to feel pretty uncomfortable after an extended session.

Ehrrr, that's new, why there's people that love batteries?
Good quality rechargeable batteries last forever and with four you can just swap them to and from the charger when a set dies without needing to worry about plugging the controller in. You also don't have to worry about the internal battery in the controller dying eventually.

I could even agree with you, but Microsoft solved this problem with a battery pack that goes in the same slot of AA batteries.
You can change it if it dies eventually, but not including it with the controller is the worst thing ever.

I love the Xbox stick layout but I don't find Xbox controllers comfortable if that makes sense. The concave d-pad I hate so much.
For all time favorite controller I love my SFC30 Pro despite it's smaller size I find it super comfortable.
