Bravely Default celebrates its 9th anniversary, possible announcements teased for next year

Happy anniversary to this great new franchise, and kinda what led to the Asano division being a (bigger) thing with Octopath Traveler, Triangle Strategy, Various Daylife...

\9th anniversary‼︎/
Well, once again, I'm really "thankful" that I was able to develop Default 2 this year.

Once again, thank you.
Thank you very much...! m_ _m

Next year will be our 10th anniversary.

Please visit youtu.be/tlVNbAIWqGE I've got a lot of things in store for you, so enjoy!

Asano teased a new console Bravely project before and after BD2 released this year in various interviews, talking about both Bravely Default 3 (standalone) and Bravely Third (direct sequel to Second that was a direct sequel to Default).
Maybe some remasters while waiting for that, since Triangle Strategy releases next year and an Octopath Traveller 2 is a sure thing?

I just hope that SQEX manages to market the next game better... they should at least pretend they care about it. At least BDII was on some directs, unlike NeoTWEWY, but they need to do more, they need to give them a bit more budget and I am sure those games will sell millions (on Switch at least).

I've only beaten their Switch games - Octopath Traveler and Bravely Default 2 - but I've thoroughly enjoyed them.

I'm excited for anything they put out. They're one of my favorite teams developing titles for the Switch, next to Monolith Soft.

I wish Bravely Default that Square-Enix celebrate this anniversary by giving Asano just a liiiittle bigger budget.

Maybe that's more of a 10th birthday gift, though.

Would prefer Octopath 2 first.

I *believe* these are different development teams , under the same Team Asano production unit so ideally it can be both! I don't think one overly impacts the other beyond natural spacing of projects so they don't eat into each other

To echo others, I would absolutely love a collection of the the 3ds games. The first game particularly does some really compelling things with it's storytelling so it would be nice to have that accessible on the switch.

Tomoya Asano and his team have created my two favorite Square-Enix RPGs of the last few years. I love Octopath and Bravely Default II so much.

Didn't they make a point of releasing one title roughly per year? I think it'll be quite a while before Bravely Default 3 (or whatever the next proper title is) is announced. Octopath 2 hasn't been formally announced either.

In the meantime it would indeed be nice if the 3ds games got remastered for switch / PC.

Hi everyone 1st time post, longtime lurker from Resetera. This is awesome news and I also wonder what the chances are that the next game launches multiplat as opposed to timed exclusivity on Switch and if the next games still even come to the Switch.

Not sure if serious, but until Bravely gets a AAA budget, it will release on Nintendo platforms.
It's possible that like any other recent Asano game, the next games will be timed exclusive (6-9months later on PC and maybe later on other platforms).

Correct. "Team Asano" merely does conception and planning, the actual studio are generally an independent entity - for Final Fantasy: The Four Heroes of Light it was Matrix Software (also known for Alundra, the second and third Lost in Blue games and a bunch of smartphone ports of FF and DQ), for Bravely Default and Second it was Silicon Studio (also did 3D Dot Game Heroes and Terra Battle 2), with Octopath it was Acquire (Tenchu, Shinobido, Way of the Samurai, Akiba'S Trip), Bravely Default II was Clay Tech Works (did a bunch of soshage prior, console debut) and for Triangle Strategy they partnered with Artdink (notable for porting the first two games in the Ogre Battle series to PlayStation and a lot of train games).

There's a good chance the next game won't come to Switch -if the successor will be out.

I am a little serious, I guess it is just the fear that once these franchises get bigger they no longer come to Nintendo's platforms. I know and understand that it is the old console war way of thinking and I am not trying to do that because it is a stupid way of thinking. I just sometimes feel that when all of these big AAA games come to other consoles and everyone is having fun, I feel like I am left out because I made the wrong choice. I would like it if all games released on all consoles at the same time, but I also understand why they don't. I appreciate your thoughts on this.

Had to do a double take there for a second when I saw 9th anniversary in the title

Time flies... Glad that the franchise seems to be somewhat healthy now though

What are the new leaks? I haven't been keeping up.
The OP of the hardware thread should point you in the right direction. Nate (and other sources) have stated some devs have had DLSS dev kits since at least December. The chip the next Switch will you seems to be a derivative of Orin, so it's also expected to be ready by next year.

Hasn't this been the *Nintendo Experience* (TM) for like 20 years? 🤔
In other words, you know roughly what to expect at this point if you only play on a Nintendo platform. (To be fair, Switch has been a whole lot better in this regard thanks to its tremendous userbase!)

With *Bravely Default* in particular, and Square-Enix in general, I think it is safe to say that they recognize the synergy w/ Nintendo platform audiences for a number of their projects. I'd even go as far as to say the Switch platform is the reason some projects like *Triangle Strategy* can even exist.

A potential sequel, remaster or other related project would be tabbed for the audience with greatest market fit. The success of 3DS and Switch releases have proven that fit. Then the implementation strategy, such as what game engine to use in order to target that platform(s), would follow.

I think it's safe to assume that, unless Team Asano decides they no longer want to work with Nintendo, their games will always appear on a Nintendo system. Square is generally the most Nintendo-friendly of the big Japanese publishers (Capcom comes in at a close second in my book) and their support shows it - the only series where a new mainline entry will likely never be on another Nintendo system is Final Fantasy.

Yeah thinking about it now, I feel silly for having that thought. Your post sums up pretty much what I should expect going forward.

Unless they're porting 1 and Bravely Second for Switch, it'll probably be a year focused on the mobile title.

Reminder that they had the fan base beg for localizations and sequels with the previous games but this time they were all yeah we're doing more with this.

Bravely 2 was a good time, while I'm mostly waiting for Octopath 2 as far as the Asano games are concerned, I'll be here for all the stuff they produce.

Also reminder that Bravely Default would have been a one and done if Nintendo hadn't stepped in.
Square was hard to work with on the 3DS. Remember how it took ages for DQ VII to be finally released outside of Japan?

I think that if there's a Bravely project announced next year it'll be something for mobile. Especially if they've also been working on the Octopath successor for consoles (that isn't Triangle Strategy). Even if the development teams/studios are separate they're all coordinated by Team Asano.

Yup, and in that case as well the producer said it only happened because (paraphrasing) "Nintendo paid half of the cost"

Would prefer Octopath 2 first.

Triangle Strategy this March.

Dragon Quest III HD 2D remake in either 2022 or 2023.

Octopath Traveler 2 (officially in development) will probably be in 2024.

Then in 2025 the next Bravely console game.

They may be aiming for a game per Fiscal Year. Anyway, Team Asano is goat and I can't wait for Triangle Strategy.

It's insane that Asano has released 4 million-sellers in a decade and dude can't even get the budget of a Persona game.

Bravely Second obviously getting less budget than 1 despite that success is still a weird one.

Almost a decade ago, bullshit I refuse to believe it. Almost bang on 9 years before bravely default released we got Viewtiful Joe, Kirby Air Ride, F-Zero GX, Final Fantasy XI and the first Call of Duty.

Are they really still mentioning Bravely Third as a possibility?

I'm absolutely rooting for that to come out, but had nearly given up hope.

There was this in december, two months before BD2 released:
Tomoya Asano

Keywords for 2021: “Bravely!! (For the second year in a row.)”

Ambitions for 2021: “I hope Bravely Default II is a success and that I can prepare for the next one (whether that’s Third or III I don’t know).”
