It has already been. It they didn't fumble Metroid Prime 4, they would've been its devs.Let's see if this means more than just Smash Bros and Mario Kart.
lmaoThe S is for Smash
It's the smart thing to do, honestly. Like they used to do during the era where Nintendo had handheld-only consoles: third parties would churn out content specifically for those consoles.Good on them, they're doing what every Japanese publisher should be doing, there should be studios dedicated to making games for Nintendo and only for Nintendo from Square Enix and Capcom too.
Tears of the KingdomAlways fun when you get to see the snake eat its own tail in real time
I don't see why SE would want to go back to Nintendo publishing for their Team Asano games if they can help it. These games are million sellers and IPs they've built from the ground up (no doubt Nintendo's publishing as been instrumental to that). To not self-publish would be incredibly dumb when Nintendo, by publishing their game/s in NA and Europe, is essentially eating a big chunk of profit from Square.I think after Octopath 2 did worse in comparison to 1, and at least Square will rethink putting games like it on other systems. Games like that seem to do a lot better when marketed and published by Nintendo and at that point I think Nintendo would want them to be exclusive.
Square Enix is used to making exclusive games for Sony and still does it. But you are right in that their relations with Nintendo is not close enough that they will ever start making exclusive games for Nintendo platforms. I mean its even doubtful that SE will release ports of new FF games even on Switch 2.I don't see why SE would want to go back to Nintendo publishing for their Team Asano games if they can help it. Moreover, let's be honest here, it's the publishing that makes the sales difference, not the console exclusivity. Multiplatform OT2 was announced in a Nintendo Direct (Sept. 2022) and shown again in the next one (Feb. 2023). Nintendo had posts about it on its social accounts and promoted it just fine, SE did the same but they simply don't have the same marketing power and expenses Nintendo would afford the Team Asano titles. Nintendo publising would of course have meant a much, much bigger marketing campaign.
No publisher as big as SE should rely on a third party business for marketing and distribution (and localization). To do so is more a display of an unhealty business than anything.
The Asano games just need to continue being as profitable as they have so far. OT2 was always going to decline. So long as we see SE put out PR for the games, boasting about 1 million+ shipped, it likely means they're more than guaranteed a sequel.

Studio (S)witch and Studio Switch (2)Can anyone explain the difference between Studio S and Studio 2?
Star Fox 64 3D port for Switch, got itIt is ultimately just the formalization of something that already exists.
We haven't had a Starfox game on Switch yet AND this type of studio is literally the best chance possible for an HD port of Kid Icarus Uprising. I can't wait to know!
No one knows. It's assumed that Studio 2 is the larger unit and Studio S is thr Smash subunitCan anyone explain the difference between Studio S and Studio 2?
There will be a new Smash game regardless of what Sakurai said. They make too much money for Nintendo not to continue it with or without him. A deluxe edition may happen but all it would do is buy time & even that may not be necessary. So are we legit expecting a Smash remaster / new entry after Sakurai basically said he has no idea how to tackle the next entry a week ago?
Sony already has most japanese third parties in their hand so this move is good for Nintendo. No, I prefere games being multiplatform. But Sega should include Switch 2 with Like a Dragon series.
Yes?So are we legit expecting a Smash remaster / new entry after Sakurai basically said he has no idea how to tackle the next entry a week ago?
he will find a way, he always state, Super Smash Bros game X(SMBB is impossible and i done with this franchise, he will do Super Smash Bros games until he is 90 years oldSo are we legit expecting a Smash remaster / new entry after Sakurai basically said he has no idea how to tackle the next entry a week ago?
Bring back the king
Nintendo will make a new Smash game regardless if Sakurai is in it or not
The only games they have that sell more or equal to Smash is Super Mario, Mario Kart, Zelda, Animal crossing. So Smash is one of their elite few franchises. This was the reason for me, I thought they wouldn't make a Smash without Sakurai taking a lead role and I vaguely remember some Nintendo executive stating similar sentiments in a Q&A.
Taking this thought further to tackle your point about potential sales I thought they (Nintendo) would just allocate these developers to other games that will sell equally well.
but why would you want 1 less 10+ Million seller?Taking this thought further to tackle your point about potential sales I thought they (Nintendo) would just allocate these developers to other games that will sell equally well.

I want both. Kid Icarus Uprising 2 would be a nice way to explore the Greek mythos in a funny way haha xDI would rather just have Kid Icarus Uprising 2 than a port.
A Kid Icarus Uprising port would be extremely difficult and expensive to have turn out well so just make a new game with a recap video from the last game.
Nintendo was already preparing to do Smash without Sakurai with Brawl. he just happened to agree to come back
That's not what I was saying.
SE puts out more Nintendo exclusives that they do Sony's. Their Playstation exclusives (mainline FF, what else? Foamstars I guess) are all self-published. Their Switch exclusives that they also self-published either sold ok (Harvestella I imagine, maybe?), or outright bombed (DQ Treasures, Chocobo GP). Switch exclusivity is not a magic bullet to commercial success.
and I'll still maintain that's a bad idea. Melee with online might have been fine given we're going from GCN to Wii. it'd be similar to games going from Wii U to SwitchTheir ultimatum for Smash on Wii without Sakurai was porting Melee with online, though.
I guess some people wouldn’t be too fussed if we got Ultimate Deluxe with good online, though…
I always wondered how much of that was Iwata telling Sakurai the truth and how much was him suggesting a deliberately underwhelming scenario to better tempt Sakurai back to Smash.Their ultimatum for Smash on Wii without Sakurai was porting Melee with online, though.
It obviously wouldn't hit the same way an actual sequel would, but if they don't have that in the foreseeable pipeline, for whatever reason, a deluxe Ultimate with even like... four new characters would still sell very well.and I'll still maintain that's a bad idea. Now that we have the (probable) existence of a dedicated team, a new smash is definitely in the works. I mean, even a mostly-direct port w/ better online would do good, but people go mental for Smash reveals.
Though I also think convincing some of those existing third-parties to be in base over DLC is easier said than done.
its not and neither is playstation exclusivity considering forspoken flopped so hard its dev team disappeared into the netherThat's not what I was saying.

SO6 is not a PS exclusive. I literally forgot about Babylon's Fall and Elysium (and Forspoken). My point is not Switch exclusivity being useless, but console exclusivity as a whole. (on a betting average)IF DQ Treasures bombed, then you may as well said Aall their PS exclusives like Star Ocean 6, Elysium, Babylons Fall, Forspoken all is Tsar Bomba lol.
DQ Treasures in japan alone outsold Elysium, Babylon and Forspoken combined.
Absolutely. See above.its not and neither is playstation exclusivity considering forspoken flopped so hard its dev team disappeared into the nether
If we don't get Ultimate Deluxe, my post isn't relevant. The DQ Treasures outselling etc. is a moot point when DraQue has historically been a huge seller in Japan and the title specifically did faaaar from great compared to other spin-offs in the franchise. It still ultra bombed in the West on top of that.
Absolutely. See above.
Seriously folks I thought my first post (see: "Moreover, let's be honest here, it's the publishing that makes the sales difference, not the console exclusivity.") and its follow-up both referring to self publishing made it clear that I meant console exclusivity as a whole. I guess for obvious reasons I shouldn't have taken that for granted.
Edited for clarity.
Some title Neo TWEWY or Octopath Traveler 2 would dream to get that Nintendo exclusives marketing push considering the moment those title leave Nintendo exclusives. Their sales totally collapse.
Western reviews barely matter if we want to infer how the Japanese casual market would react to DQ Treasures. It no doubt impacted American and European sales though, given that the game didn't sell here. And that's a problem. SE once again not capitalizing on DraQue's domestic popularity and not managing to turn it into an appealing product outside of Japan. And again, back to JP sales, the fact remains that it sold poorly in relation to other spinoffs in the franchise when on an massively popular console. Some title being Switch exclusives is better than going multiplats and losing that Nintendo marketing as simple as that.
DQ Treasures should not even sell any amount considering how mixed the reception for the game is. But the fact that it hit Switch. Japan actually carried the sales performance.
The same will goes for DQM3 where Nintendo is going to help push the title as the title is Switch exclusives.

I understand that adapting the controls of the game will not be simple but I do not see how it would be more expensive than making a brand new game rather than an HD remaster, even taking into account this work. Besides, a lot of people have never had the opportunity to play this game as it is the case for some other very good 3DS games.I would rather just have Kid Icarus Uprising 2 than a port.

A rhythm game would be a good idea. It seems to me that leaving DK out of it would also be a good idea. I know that many people enjoyed the games with the Bongos but for me it is like the darkest timeline to imagine this franchise again confined to experimentsNice to finally have a name for the Mario Baseball Switch team!
Yes please! They really need to get a rhythm game series going again, might as well bring back their best one
Also fun fact: This is to this day the only Donkey Kong game to ever win a BAFTA
No, seriously
A new Smash will happen with or without Sakurai. So are we legit expecting a Smash remaster / new entry after Sakurai basically said he has no idea how to tackle the next entry a week ago?
