News Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories and the Envisioned Land (Update: Launches March 21, new trailer)

A personal highlight. I'm unfamiliar with the Atelier series, but this looks very promising.

Ryza series has been very interesting for me and this looks eveb better? GUST should teach how to develop for Switch to some other Japanese developers lol

Hell yeah the announcement I've been waiting for. Didn't expect it in this Direct due to fairy Tail 2 though. hoping for a closer date, life February or something.

Kinda hoping that this is also a launch title for Switch 2. I'll be there regardless tho, I love Atelier.

I find it interesting that they didn't show any party members in this trailer.

Also, is pretty fitting this is releasing next year. Hopefully a Switch 2 version is being prepared to launch alongside it (Would most likely get it there to start a brand new era).

This definitely looks good, and I wasn't sure if it was Atelier or not at first but I'm happy to see a new one. Only thing (could just be this trailer/early version) is that the resolution looked rough to me - so I hope that gets a bit better.

Nintendo: "We might just have that one thing for you that could fix this, wait a bit, we're going to get it and show you!" ;D

Gonna need more info before I can trust whatever gameplay system they're pushing for this time. Looks neat, different, and with a more serious tone, Ryza and Resleriana have a serious tone too, but it's not as prevalent as this one. This one gives off an impression that it's an Atelier with serious writing priority first then anything Atelier-familiar second.

Don't know how or what to feel yet. Currently confused. Which is a good thing, because that's how it's supposed to feel to anyone whenever a brand new Atelier subseries gets shown off.

New trailer + release date New

Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land will be available on March 21, 2025 for Nintendo Switch™, PlayStation®5, PlayStation®4, Windows PC via Steam®, and for the first time in franchise history, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One.

We got a new trailer, release date and price (in yen). Based on the yen, I think the PS5/Series/PC version is gonna be 70$ US

Suikoden and Atelier Yumia in same month! Maybe TPC could sweeten the deal by dating Pokémon Z-A fro March as well.

I hope the performance is acceptable on Switch. From what I've seen the game is a step above than Ryza trilogy.
Wondering if they have enough dev power and resources to add "... and also for the first time, Switch 2" after September or sometime in 2025. ;D
They literally have 2 big games coming out in a span of 4 months. They could have a performance patch for the successor but I don't expect it right away.

This looks great actually! But I'm not sure I want to play this on the Switch, assuming the performance isn't perfect. Exploration looks fun! I still haven't booted up Ryza lol.

No Switch physical in Europe

Noooooooo!

This is easy to miss, but after a careful examination of the trailer i can confirm the mc does indeed have an ass, Gust had me there for a second.

Game looks pretty good though, not entirely sure if the combat is turn based or real time though (a mix of both...?)

I've never been interested in Atelier until now.

I'll be keeping this on my radar.
I've been interested, but never got into it because there's seemingly a million games in this franchise on the Switch right now, so I wouldn't even know where to begin. This (I think?) seems to be a fresh storyline, so I'll keep an eye on it for sure.

So I guess creating beds and using them as stairs is going to be the new fad uh? Thanks Zelda

Echoes of Wisdom already influential before it's even out

Yumia looks interesting, looks rather Xenoblade inspired in some ways, like with the combat and exploration (including some unwelcome ones, it did not need to copy the sexualization). Still need to get to Ryza 2 and 3 but I'll be keeping my eye on this one

Yumia has a sexy design, but she's not grotesque gooner bait like some of the Xenoblade characters.

There's a difference.

All games are standalone aside from the Ryza trilogy!
Not quite, but that is a pretty simple way to put it. Lulua is meant to be played after the Arland trilogy and Sophie 2 is a direct sequel to Sophie.

Anyway, maybe I'll marathon these games soon like I did with Trails to replay a few and get to the ones I missed before this one comes out. I already bought them all as they came out so

The Atelier series is sexualising stuff since years and people still do the Xenoblade hate boner here and claim Xenoblade is a worse kind of sexualization than the Atelier series sometimes? Damn.

On another note: This is the first time Atelier get's a German release and the thing which surprises me the most is that they actually translated the title into German. This is absolutelly not common but I appeciate it.

I expected Gust to go big with the next Atelier and yeah, gameplay-wise they sure seem to be throwing the kitchen sink at it. On top of that they're doing more localizations and Xbox versions as well. Too bad they're skipping on an EN dub though, could've been an extra selling point.

Will be keeping an eye on this but I almost feel like Ryza 3 will be the make or break point for me, because if I don't like that (after hate-finishing 2) I don't think I'm ever going to give this a chance barring some incredibly positive WoM.

This must be the reason for no physical Switch in Europe, the damned german translation was too complex and expensive.

The Xenoblade girl is wearing half a skirt
I mean, you can complain about Pyras outfit, but call it "gooner bait" compared to Atelier being "good sexualization" is stupid. Especially the Ryza trilogy was full of unnecessary sexualization (Ryza was 17 in the first game by the way). They sell official merch like this:

And appearently Yumia is selling a set of sexy artworks as bonus content for the physical edition in Japan.

Also we have Nina as playable character too.

They know what they do and you can't tell me this isn't gooner bait either.

Well, well... Looks like they're sticking to trends and decided to play safe to ensure that people who have enjoyed or played the Ryza games can seamlessly migrate to Yumia, huh.

Not disappointed at all though. Glad to see it's still an entirely different experience. Seems like they want to put balance in-between those 5 gameplay systems they showed in the English "First Look" video. (I say 5 because even if the subtitle says, "3 major systems" I consider the center pieces as part of the system)

Also: not a bad decision to balance the way the systems are designed. The Ryza games are beginner-friendly, however it doesn't exactly hit the right spot when it comes to how often you should spend your time with the systems it has. Yumia seems to be focusing on things such as: more land exploration, alterations to the Ryza battle system (it looks more like an alteration of Ryza 2 and Ryza 3's battle system), and showing a much more streamlined crafting system; leading to a gameplay loop that gives off the impression that you will spend enough time between each one. It might alleviate the problem where the previous games puts crafting as the "game breaking strategy" to bulldoze any wall the games gave to the player.

Building looks to exist only within bases and its goal seems to be for increasing the happiness meter, so it does not look like it's going to be some sort of "Echoes of Wisdom" situation.

"Simple Synthesis" is a misleading term to use for its function though since it's completely different from what it really is... It would be better if they called it something like, "Exploration Crafts" because all you do (based on the footage revealed so far) is to quickly create consumable tools made for having access to exploration. (The concept is fairly similar to the "Thrown Item Recipes" from Pokemon Legends Arceus, but instead of creating items related to Pokemon interaction, it's about creating items related to Exploration)

In the Japanese stream, it's called "Informal Synthesis", which is also misleading... so it's best if they used a different name for it. Personally will call it as "Exploration Crafts" though.

Overall, it's a promising Atelier game. High chance that it will attract many new players, especially with how the game has a "cool" look. Perhaps it's a nice callback for the Iris and Mana Khemia fans as well. It is about time Atelier paused a bit with the "cute" and "full slice of life" concept, too. Ryza still had the cute, slice of life, heartwarming feel, but one thing it did differently is the small jump of effort for the main story. (Emphasis on the "small jump of effort", by the way.)

Surprised it took this long considering Gust reliance on picking German names for their cute girls (I think they were Finnish in Nora and the Time Studio)

Idk to me it's still more on the likes of other KT-era Atelier games, similar to the Dusk trilogy with a main problem (world is dying for X reason) and you have to deal with it one step at the time, and still keeping that slice of life (the new building mechanics cover that aspect)

It'll do well commercially, I'm worried on the Switch performance cause the game is getting more ambitious, they're pushing the limits of the hardware but we always have to remember that Ryza trilogy had a decent following on Switch and that is still the main platform in Japan so if the version turns out to be bad that will make things more difficult.

Right. That's a better insight than what I had in mind.

I found footage of the Switch version of the trailer and... It looks rough (still playable, but rough).

I really liked the added both melee and ranged combat options here, as well as the real time dodge. This will make the battle more interesting. Now hopefully the AI of the party members is good
Yup. And specially with multiple enemies on screen. We did get a short tease on the main trailer, but I look forward to see the sequence of uninterrupted gameplay.

I know basically nothing about German but I swear it goes harder than almost any other language
