Having played a little of it, I can say it’s sick. The visuals and music are incredible and the platforming and levels are a lot of fun.

It also shows why tech specs and power can be important even for cartoony games imo, it’s doing a ton of really cool stuff.

Tbh I think Mario is gonna have a tough time being the best 3d platformer of the generation lol.

How much marketing has Sony given this lately? I was following it as I really enjoyed the VR game and some friends who got a PS5 said it was the only game coming out this year they really gave a shit about, but online it feels like the name popped up again on news sites due to the release/reviews being so glowing. It's going to really suck if it underperforms due to a lack of advertising, especially after the Concord fiasco.

I'm just glad a linear platformer is getting this much praise. There is no right or wrong in game design, open environment isn't an evolution, it's an option. And I sure do prefer my linear 3d platformers.

Who would have thought, turns out retaining staff and letting them develop and grow over multiple projects makes your more likely to produce a hit than indiscriminately laying off employees. Someone please pass this ground breaking knowledge to video game corporates everywhere.

If the next 3D Mario is just Odyssey 2 then Astro Bot will easily be the best 3D platformer of the generation. Team Asobi deserves the world.
