The samsung tabs are not in Brazil? They're very competitive with the iPad imo.

Oh, they are, actually.

That's good to hear, I remember a while ago when I checked the iPad was basically my only option. I'll check out some reviews, thanks for the recommendation

no problem, the Tab S7 in particular is extremely premium and the S7+ even more so.

iPhone here. Tried Android a few times but always switched back. Work phone is also an iPhone so I'm all in on the Apple ecosystem.

Android user here. When the galaxy S8 came out it was so damn sleek and cool. Seemed miles beyond what Apple had. I've really loved it. Still do.

Almost four years later and not only are android phones not much better than back then, I still can't find one I even like as much as the S8. But I need to move on as the battery is now terrible.

My big issue with iPhones is whenever anyone gives me one to use (to check a photo or whatever) I can never figure out how to use it properly. There's no back button (that I can tell), which is just crazy to me. I guess I'd get used to it, but you use the back button 100 times a day. There's no reason for it not to have a button / gesture for that. Also, I use Nova launcher and being stuck with the default Apple "just dump the apps on the homescreen" would drive me crazy.

...but if Android phone makers can't make anythng better then iPhone 13 here I come.

Owned the first Samsung Galaxy S. Battery life was awful, lasting only like 6 hours. I had to actually pull the battery out several times a day because the OS would hard lock regularly. The phone was full of non-removable bloatware. The final nail in the coffin for me was updates had to go from Google, to Samsung, to my carrier. A few months after I got my phone they announced they were done allowing my phone to update. Just an absolutely abysmal experience top to bottom

Within a few months of the “your phone isn’t getting any updates” announcement I had bought an iPhone and have been iPhone ever since.

Yeah, if Pixels got updates as long as iPhones I might switch to them. There's a lot of iPhone that annoys me but I had my 8 for 4 years, and probably could have gotten another year out of it. Hoping to keep my iPhone 11 for 5 years or so if I can.

I used to be an Android guy who made fun of iPhone/Apple users. Now I'm on my second iPhone (12) and I own an M1 Macbook Air and the new iPad Mini lol. I could prolly go back to Android without much hassle, but there isn't really anything I miss about that platform.

Android, I've had a One Plus 6t for a couple of years and hope it lives for as long as possible, I never want to replace it. On the other hand I really don't care for the Apple ecosystem at all.

Currently on an iPhone 11 that is still going strong.

I've flipped back and forth between them and enjoyed both in different ways so no massive bias really. I do like how I can sync my clipboard, messages and 2fa codes between my iPhone and iPad though.

I've always been conscious about ecosystem lock-in and I try to use cross platform services when possible so transitioning between different devices/OS's is never a big deal. I just pick up whatever is best for me when it is time to upgrade!

Android. Does what I need to without a bloated asking price.

My first one was ZTE Blade, which had a decent modding scene so I could upload a custom ROM to it to remove the original bloat. Lasted me a good few years since I mostly just used it as a phone. Eventually the battery couldn't hold its charge and most apps didn't support such an old version of Android by that point. Plus the camera was bad, even at the time I got it, so it was worth moving on for something that could take semi decent imagery. I make phones last so I'm only on my second smartphone (had a tablet too, which at the time was my go to for using apps as I didn't really use them on my phone). Again, mostly use it as phone, with occasional web browsing if I've got nothing else nearby (I still stick to using a PC for stuff like that), and two gacha games, so I don't see a need to spend too much on one.

I was big into Android in the earlier days of the OS. Got very big into tinkering with my device, custom roms, and all that. Then I switched to an iPhone maybe 4 years ago and never looked back. IMO it’s just a more pleasant experience. iMessage alone is honestly almost worth it, I’m sure it’s better now but I ALWAYS had issues with group messaging on Android.

I’m a software developer and the more I got involved with my work and got more complex jobs, the less desire I had to tinker with my Android phone and just appreciated how my iPhone “just works”.

Yeah, the Emoji mashups are a must-have feature for me.

I don't know what features the famiboards devs plan to implement in the future, but you could also upload them to your own personal discord server (by making an emoji mashup post in a chat), opening the image externally, and then copying the image address from there, like this:

They updated the emojis, btw
Thank you for telling me about this. I'm on Samsung and forgot that I had other options for keyboards. The default Samsung keyboard is fine, but when typing in a URL they change the placement of the spacebar which leads to tons of typos.

Android.

iOS is too limited with it's multitasking. Even my M1 iPad Pro is stranglely lacking multitasking features found on my OnePlus 6.

My smartphone history is all over the place: HTC Touch Pro, Blackberry Pearl, Palm Pre, Samsung Galaxy S, iPhone 4S, HTC Surround, Nokia 925, Amazon Fire Phone, HTC 10, OnePlus 6

Android. I've only had Samsung Galaxies for the past few years. I use iOS devices, but not as my daily driver

Android. Rocking a Samsung M31 (known as the MEGA MONSTER in India) with Chrome and Google Assistant disabled. It's dark mode Samsung Internet all the way.

This handset was aimed at the Indian market as a premium phone but is pretty midrange in comparison to others on the UK market. For some reason Amazon UK exclusively sold these for a short period and I'm glad I rolled the dice on one. I just wanted 2 day battery and a micro SD slot. It's exceeded my expectations despite some quirks.

I've only ever owned one Apple product and that was an iPod Mini. Still scarred by iTunes erasing my entire library when "syncing".

Apple seems to attract cult-like loyalty and that is very off-putting to me.

I use both - private Android - iphone for work

While both have their advantages, I'd take Android over iPhone if given the opportunity (work didnt) as there's too much stuff with iPhone I do not like.

iPhone 11 for work and Samsung Note S20 Ultra for everything else. My mind says I should use them the other way around since the Note is more of a workhorse but I don't want to go through the process of copying over contacts, agendas, etc.

I used Android for years up until ~2015 when I got the iPhone 6S. I loved it but then in 2016 I picked up the Google Pixel XL. I had a number of issues with the Google Pixel so I went back to iPhone in 2017 and have been there ever since. I’m never going back to Android, honestly. I’ve barely had issues with iPhones and Apple’s SoCs are amazing.

I'm amused by all the generalizations in here that were either never true, true years ago, true for both sides, or even true for the opposite side.

I use an Android myself as it fits my needs a bit better, but I don't think I'd be too bothered either way outside the learning curve of switching to iOS.

Are the updates still carrier locked? That was always such a weird idea to me.
Yes, but I don't really like purchasing through a carrier in the first place; it doesn't have to affect you if you don't want it to. Additionally, Google's been pushing everything they can out of the core OS and into background apps updatable through the Play Store, so not everything needs to wait for carriers/manufacturers to get to the end user.

I would check out Android 12 before you make that move; it's honestly the biggest update to Android's UI in quite a long time, and very Android in how customizable things are.

I agree that hardware hasn't been terribly exciting recently though. Everything interesting is in the folding phones, which aren't necessarily appealing to everyone and pretty expensive even if you do like them. Funny you mention the S8 though; I daily drove one, and that was the phone that convinced me I didn't like the direction Samsung was going.

I was 100% (and aggressively) Android until 2017, when I got an iPhone 8 Plus. Haven’t looked back since and have no real reason to. I think there are upsides and downsides for both and some new Android phones look pretty great, but as I said, there’s nothing that would make me move back at the moment.

iPhone now. I used to me part of Android, but eventually my family just all got iPhones. Just was easier, and I pay the monthly $20 sub for Apple One Family. Everything just works for us. I don't hate Android, and I liked my old Samsung phones just fine. This just works out better for me though, and I'm at a point where I'm willing to take the walled garden as I don't have the time, energy, or the drive to mess with all the customizations like I used to on Android.

I still think the Pixel A series is the best value in phones going in the US at least even more so than the iPhone SE.

I've always used Android phones due to half of my phones being hand-me-downs and not wanting to spend more than about €200ish on a phone. Nothing against iPhones but I'm pretty unlikely to ever switch unless Apple starts making budget phones.

Nokia 3210 (2000) -> Nokia 6233 (2005) -> HTC TouchPro2 (2009) -> Xperia Z1 (2013) -> LG V20 (2017) -> Oneplus Nord CE 5G (2021)

I've gone from Series XX to Windows CE to Android in 2013 where I've stuck since then. It's not perfect.

I've used a lot of iphones over the years as people ask me for help to set them up and troubleshoot issues with them as I'm fairly tech savvy. I really kind of hate the apple ui and many of the arbitary restrictions apple put into ios, so I've never purchased one myself.

Android. S21. Before that Huawei p30. I did switch from Huawei to Samsung because the USA fucked Huawei and their cheap top of line phones...
