StarTopic Anime |ST| Is Captain Falcon more anime than Fire Emblem?

Oshi no Ko S2 is the only show I'm watching this season but I enjoyed the first episode a lot. Great visuals for an episode that's mostly just people talking and thinking to themselves in a rehearsal room.

Sheeshhhhhhh, some new Kinnikuman perfect origin promo footage popped up from a tv special promo… you know how people complain Dragonball Kai had to censor all the blood and battle damage? Well not this adaption, everything is intact, which means things are gonna get brutal, lots of fighters in this show use claws and blades so blood splatter everywhere. Heck episode 0 footage of a classic fight where the opponent uses his signature
move blood geyser
on Suguru was shown and it’s not toned down at all
No guts or gore mind you, just blood and scratches and clean breaks

Trailer for Witch Hat Atelier. I was planning to read the manga some time soon, but this looks great
also music is done by Yuka Kitamura of FROMSOFT fame

QA in another world 1
Obvious the title meant there was gonna be a twist but man that got dark, then whaaaaaaaa at that end. Curious for next week. Wonder if her asking to join him was a loophole that she could leave the village while everyone else died cause she already broke her normalcy
Dahlia in Bloom 1
Very cute start with otherworldly inspiration. Tho already setting up for her having a rough patch DX

@oomoepoo hmmm, if you’re sold on the show don’t watch it cause this OP(episode 0 only) spoils cool moments from episode 0(the onboarding episode. Basically a lot of the coolest moments of the original manga run) but if you aren’t, definitely watch it XD

So I guess if I haven't watched anything yet, it's better to not watch this until I at least watched episode 0?

Yeah, it’s a remake of the original anime’s op sung by Kinnikuman’s VA and the footage is all from episode 0, as it’s a special bonus opening theme for that episode(Flow is doing the main show’s theme). So the actual episode should have more of the scenes and some context for more impact
What I did just finish is episode 1 of My Deer friend Nokotan

That was definitely an experience. I'm not sure where this will go yet but the first episode was full of absurdist commedy moments that had me rolling on the floor. It's pure brainrot and I'm here for every second of it.
Apparently the distributor screwed up the subs so I’m waiting for an update from crunchy(tho randomly Prime got a dub)

I thought Kinnikuman starts today but have to wait until tomorrow I guess.
I'll try The Elusive Samurai later and see if I like it, in terms of old stuff I finally started One Punch Man Season 2

I still haven't finished the original Kinnikuman anime but I'm on the final arc - I might just start the Netflix anime since I know broadly how the final arc ends. Will still make time to finish Scramble For The Throne before too long.

小市民 first episode was just perfect, and that's what I wanted most from the adaptation.

Shout-out to the greatest anime ending of all time which just got officially uploaded in its creditless version:

Since a new Monogatari season is being released, I continued watching the rest of the series after slightly dropping it due to not finding any reliable that had the Kizumonogatari movies. Finally watched those so time to continue.
Only watched the first nekomonogatari episode, but dammit i missed this show so much!

First episode, well technically episode 0 of Kinnikuman felt a bit awkward with how the past series' continuity was referenced. It still did its job well enough to bring new viewers up to speed I suppose, animation was top notch! Need to watch more to really see how it fares.

Also started PLUTO. I feel the hour long episodes format is a bit exhausting. But it's so far a really dense show and I really like the european setting for a change.

Episode 1 proper is up btw! And boy is it a setup XD

Kinda wary given the working conditions of Mappa, but it looks good overall.

From the leaks a few weeks ago. Mappa started this in early 2023. So crunch shouldn't be an issue.

Ranma's new anime is still voiced by Yamaguchi Kappei and Hayashihara Megumi, so I can use them as a substitute for Shinichi and Shiho again.

I’m bummed they didn’t have more fun with the hair color this time. Ranko being a red head was an anime original thing

I have fallen behind on anime in the past few seasons, so I was browsing for something new last night. I stumbled upon a show called My Deer Friend Nokotan, and I decided watch it just for the heck of it.

I was not ready for that.

After the Ranma remake announcement I decided to start watching the Urusei Yatsura remake on a whim. I've only seen a tiny bit of the original but so far I am liking it. I may watch the original series in full someday, but I definitely want to make time to watch the Beautiful Dreamer movie.

Finished One-Punch Man (none of the OAVs though since they aren't available on Hulu). This the first time I watched Season 2. I watched Season 1 subbed maybe like five or six years ago. I watched dubbed this time. Season 1 is so good. No notes except Madhouse's animation was amazing.

Season 2 was a significant drop off across the board.
  1. J.C. Staff's animation was way worse so I'm less excited for Season 3.
  2. The story felt disjointed. There was a lot going on with most of it feeling inessential.
  3. The tone was all over the place. Season 2 often felt like it wanted to be satire while also being taken seriously. Weaving in and out of that (often in the same scene) didn't work for me.
  4. The character work wasn't great. Taking the focus away from Saitama and to a lesser extent, Genos, was a mistake. There were so many minor characters to keep track of. They had a lot of dialogue without saying a lot so they were mostly taking up screen time. Without a sense of who they were, it was hard to care about them. And that led to an even bigger problem...
  5. I didn't particularly care about Garou because he was mostly beating up on characters who were either just introduced or didn't have a major role previously. That lessened his effectiveness as a villain. If I don't care about who he was beating up, I also don't care that he was beating them up. The first time Garou defeated a hero established that he was a threat. Then, he kept doing it which didn't reveal anything else.
  6. Garou's backstory was also dumb.
  7. The Monster Association and Orochi felt shoehorned in though I'll give that a pass for now. I thought every season was intended to be a complete arc so I didn't expect Season 2 to end on a quasi-cliffhanger.
Anyway, I decided to start Dragon Ball Z Kai because that's also on Hulu and I never actually finished the Buu Saga. This cuts like 120 episodes though I feel like I could also rewatch Dragon Ball Z Abridged and get to the Buu Saga in even less time. Since I never saw Kai, I'll try to watch it the "official release".

Definitely agree that it was a step down from the first season, even if I don't think it's the complete trainwreck some people on the internet pretend it is. From what I've heard speaking with people reading the source material though, the stuff S2 adapted was kind of a letdown in it too.

Overall, I'm a bit more optimistic about S3 mostly because they had time to cook, iirc, they kinda rushed S2 out of the gate because the first one became a surprise hit? Could be wrong though.

The reason for that is because J.C Staff were only given 3 weeks to make an episode instead of the usual 3 months. So blame the anime
production committee.

But it sounds like J.C Staff has been given the proper time per episode for season 3.

So I finally checked in on the new Kinnikuman season last night. Watched the first three episodes. It looks fantastic, the animation is great. I did not enjoy seeing my number one favourite chojin Canadianman get fucked up by Max Radial like that.

It’s good so far! I don’t like the opening nearly as much as the OPs from the 80’s show though. I didn’t expect them to go get Kushida or anything but I still expected something closer to the original OPs. I like the ED though.

I mean Kushida was in the hospital part of the year… yet he was able to do this for this season XD

As long as his health recovers, wouldn’t be shocked if they got him for a later cour

So this is pretty shocking, largely because Sentai rarely does these kinds of vintage anime releases anymore, but they're bringing Panzer World Galient to blu-ray in October!

Directed by Ryosuke Takahashi of VOTOMS and Layzner fame, it's an 80's mecha medieval fantasy anime from before some similar shows like Escaflowne. Have always loved the designs in here, especially Galient itself. And it's got the most prog rock of prog rock openings!

I also watched the first 3 episodes last night. Enjoyed it quite a bit, although I wish they would actually translate the Justice/Devil Chojin terms because those are fairly important to the plot.

Also, crazy stacked voice cast. You got Nobuyuki Hiyama and Akio Ohtsuka as Perfect Chojin, and I loooooooove that they brought back Akira Kamiya as Suguru's dad. Having him take over that role just feels right.

So 2 other fun casting facts, Akira is also voicing Kamehame! Chairman Harotbe is voiced by Suguru’s VA from Nisei! Which is a hilarious fit. Oh and Akuma Shogun’s new VA was Terry the kid if I remember right

Agreed on Justice tho at this point Akuma is basically a loan word so it’s less of an issue. Funny they explained Chojin at least tho

I agree with Justice but I do think they should have TL’d Akuma Chojin as Devil Chojin, but also I don’t think they should have called him “Devil Shogun.” 🤷‍♂️

Tbh my main TL complaint comes from “Burning Inner Strength.” I know that has sorta become the “canon TL” for 火事場のクソ力, but I feel it’s neglecting the クソ in there. I feel it’d be a little more accurate to call it like... “Burning Inner Bullshit Strength” or “Stupid Burning Inner Strength.” The クソ implies that it’s stupid.
