an "advanced beta" build apparently. built from recovered source code.
reviving it in this case means not only finishing the PS1 build, but also porting it to more modern platforms.
the genre of the game and the availability of the source code means that not only should the finished game see the light of day for PlayStation, but that it should be portable both to other retro platforms and to contemporary ones including phones, consoles and PCs. The commercial opportunities for this most significant of Elite’s 'games that weren’t', in a genre of game in which it has some pedigree, are considerable.
worth noting that next year is the 40th anniversary of the studio, which seems like a pretty obvious avenue on how to re-release it.
just get in contact with Digital Eclipse, and have them include it as part of a collection containing various other titles from Elite Systems.

Elite is reportedly already planning a book to celebrate the date, so they might as well go all in.
