The Ace Attorney (逆転裁判, Gyakuten Saiban, meaning: Turnabout Trial) franchise is a series of visual novel adventure games developed by Capcom, centered around courtroom drama and legal investigations. Players assume the role of defense attorney Phoenix Wright who must investigate crime scenes, gather evidence, and cross-examine witnesses to defend his clients and uncover the truth! The series is renowned for its engaging narrative, unique characters, and its blend of mystery and humor.

Ace Attorney Investigations Teaser Trailer

The expression and trailer that started it all…

The Ace Attorney Investigations games (逆転検事, Gyakuten Kenji, meaning: Turnabout Prosecutor) are centered on one of the series’ most popular characters: Prosecutor Miles Edgeworth. Besides being the antithesis to Phoenix Wright, they are childhood friends and both games in the duology (the sequel never came out of Japan) explore Edgeworth’s past.

The differences between both Ace Attorney and Ace Attorney Investigations are clear. The majority of the story in AA resolves in the courtroom, while in AAI the story unravels in the crime scenes. Graphically, AA utilizes animated 2D sprites, while AAI uses a combination of 2D and 3D animated pixel art. In AAI, Witness Testimonies are replaced by Arguments and Cross-Examinations are changed with Rebuttals. There is also the addition of Logic Mode, a mode where you mix pieces of information in order to reach conclusions and advance the story.

Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth

The first game in the spinoff series, Ace Attorney Investigations, follows Miles Edgeworth as he arrived from a trip abroad, only to be assaulted by someone in his very own office and finding out a murdered detective. Little did he know that solving this case would expose him to a corporate thief and an international smuggling ring…

Ace Attorney Investigations 2: Prosecutor's Gambit

In Ace Attorney Investigations 2: Prosecutor's Gambit, Prosecutor Edgeworth returns to tackle new and intricate cases, uncovering a series of connected mysteries. The game continues the investigative gameplay and the addition of Mind Chess (a mix of Logic Mode and Rebuttals), with Edgeworth solving crimes by gathering evidence, interviewing suspects, and piecing together clues. As the story unfolds, Miles confronts those overseeing his reevaluation as prosecutor, explores his father’s past and must come to terms with philosophical struggles.

Miles Edgeworth

A highly skilled and driven prosecutor known for his sharp legal acumen and strict adherence to justice. Initially portrayed as a formidable rival to Phoenix Wright, he undergoes significant character development, revealing a more complex and compassionate side. In the Ace Attorney Investigations games, Edgeworth shifts to a detective role, using his investigative skills to solve cases and uncover deeper truths beyond the courtroom.

V1mjAmk.png

Dick Gumshoe

A dedicated and somewhat bumbling detective who works closely with the prosecutors in the Ace Attorney series. Known for his strong sense of justice and earnestness, he often assists Phoenix Wright and Miles Edgeworth in solving cases, despite his occasional clumsiness. Despite his flaws, Gumshoe is loyal and hardworking, making him a beloved character in the series for his genuine commitment to his job and friends.

BURCEHA.png

Kay Faraday

A clever and energetic young thief who becomes a key ally in the Ace Attorney Investigations series. Known for her nimble skills and charming personality, she uses her talents to assist Miles Edgeworth in solving cases, often providing valuable information and support. Despite her criminal background, Kay’s sense of justice and loyalty make her a valuable and endearing character in the series.

Logic Mode

Logic Mode enables players to connect and analyze various pieces of evidence and information to solve puzzles and advance the investigation. Players use a visual interface to link related items and draw logical conclusions, which helps uncover crucial details and progress in the case. This feature adds an extra layer of deductive reasoning to the gameplay, emphasizing analysis and problem-solving outside the courtroom.

Mind Chess is like a mix between Logic Mode and a Cross-Examination/Rebuttal. Unlike Logic Mode and Rebuttals, you navigate this gameplay segment with a time limit and by choosing options in the right moment in other to further extract information from the person you are interrogating.

New Features:

The Collection versions of the Ace Attorney Investigations games feature enhanced graphics, higher resolution, and remastered audio compared to the DS versions. They also consolidate the dual-screen interface into a single screen and include an official English localization for Ace Attorney Investigations 2 for the first time. Additionally, the Collection versions offer modern conveniences like save-anywhere functionality and are more accessible through digital availability. You also have the option of playing with the original pixel art or the new models!

Oolong Tea, Edgeworth's favorite tea. If you're curious why the prosecutor is always sipping on it, here's why: Studies show oolong tea stimulates fat burning and increases the number of calories your body burns by up to 3.4%. Oolong tea is high in an amino acid called L-theanine, which studies show has cognitive effects like improved brain activity, better sleep quality, and reduced stress and anxiety (WebMD). So if you wanna live Unbothered. Moisturized. Happy like Miles, here's the recipe: 4 cups of water, 4 cups of Oolong leaves and honey or sugar for taste (Recipes.net).

  • The first game’s codename was NEW Gyakuten NOT Saiban, reflecting how it wasn’t meant to be a traditional Ace Attorney game (the franchise’s official name in Japanese is Gyakuten Saiban)
  • The is the first Ace Attorney game to have no involvement from series’ creator and writer: Shu Takumi.
  • Ace Attorney Investigations was the first to introduced a third iteration of the Witness/Cross-Examination theme.

There is a phenomenal fan translation that was made years before the localitzation of the second name. It even had an "official" fanmade boxart and title: Prosecutor's Path

I'm still so happy and so excited that we're finally, finally getting the last unlocalized Ace Attorney game, the one that I read about for years as being one of the best in the franchise. And practically every game from the franchise will now be playable on Switch, with only Phoenix Wright vs. Professor Layton (which I'd say only half counts) missing!

Capcom, I tip my cravat to you.

I'm glad you're finally getting to experience it! And yes, AAI-2 is an absolute masterpiece. I've replayed the games with each Switch version:
  • Ace Attorney Trilogy
  • The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles
  • Apollo Justice Trilogy
And making this Star Topic made me more eager to replay the games!

The first game is a good game, but the second game feels like a culmination of the devs had worked on something first and with that experience they made something awesome!

I'll absolutely jump in after I'm done with Zelda.
Guess AAI Collection is on Hold It! in your case 🤭

I'm really looking forward to it! Because my backlog is so big, I have a hard time justifying replaying the games I've already played, which was every game previously released in the US. However, I bought every collection released on Switch because I have absolutely no issue supporting this franchise with my wallet, and I really hope to one day replay AA1-6 on Switch (or Switch 2). Maybe if AA7 gets announced, I'll carve out time to make my way through those games once more.

Because my backlog is so big,
I'm so weird: my backlog is full of original games instead of remakes and remasters! hahaha

I bought every collection released on Switch because I have absolutely no issue supporting this franchise with my wallet,
Same here! though I bought the trilogy just to replay it and I bought the Chronicles duology because I never got to experience those games (and thank God I did!).

and I really hope to one day replay AA1-6 on Switch
I recently purchased the Apollo Justice Trilogy myself! I finished the first game (AJAA). I always enjoy replaying the first and fourth cases a lot. I like Kristoph as a character and the way Phoenix brings him down. I always wanted to carefully experience the second and third cases. I didn't have much memory of them, and I enjoyed them more than I did in the past. I especially enjoyed Klavier as a prosecutor. I honestly think he's one of the best.

Maybe if AA7 gets announced,
I think it's due. They've remastered every game there is in the franchise. I hope they at least release a teaser during TGS!

I want to work my way around to this one. I played AA1-3 via the trilogy on switch when it released and recently replayed it and then decided to buy TGAA, I'm up to Resolve case 2 at the moment. Have enjoyed them quite a bit!

Don't want to burn out on them, so might take a break after TGAA before getting Apollo Justice trilogy and then this Investigations collection.

Just needs some corrections for the opening post.

The second game has an official localized title: Ace Attorney Investigations 2: Prosecutor's Gambit

Logic Chess is actually called Mind Chess.

Yeah! You should def get a break after playing TGAA! The duology is very good, but can be time consuming and the plot so interesting it wraps you!

By the way, absolutely fantastic ST. Great job!
Thank you! It's my first one :D

Thanks for the corrections! Will be sure to include them~

fantastic job on the ST but isn't it too early for this thread? STs usually go up a day or two before a game's release. there's still three weeks to go before this comes out.
Oh, God. It's my first one! Sorry if it's too soon @_@

I'm not going to complain that they're not dragging out the rereleases until 2026, but I am a little surprised how soon this is arriving. First Ace Attorney Trilogy arrives. A little over 2 years later, Great Ace Attorney duology arrives. About 2.5 years later, second Ace Attorney trilogy. Now, a gap of less than 8 months. I guess that leaves the Layton crossover the only notable game hanging?

Thank you Capcom for vindicating my stubborn refusal to play the fan translation in the hopes we would one day get an official release. Basically an all new Ace Attorney game for me.

I hope we get a Layton vs Ace Attorney rerelease one day as well so it’s not stuck on the 3DS. I think it’s a really underrated game that laid a lot of seeds for Great Ace Attorney.

Layton vs AA is my favorite from both series. It's not the best at either side but together they make for such a compelling package.

Also, great ST!

In addition to all of that, there's also the Ghost Trick remaster in between GAAC and AJAAT!

They've been busy.

So does the pre-order bonus just come with the physical version? Or how does that work?

Edit: Well I pre-ordered the physical version anyway.

Second Edit: I should probably try to complete the original Ace Attorney trilogy before this comes out.

Same here. I was honestly expecting them to release it exactly a year after the Apollo Justice Trilogy. But since this is a spinoff series, they maybe thought that it was best to ride on the recentness of Apollo's games, seeing as how Edgeworth does appear in one of them.

I guess that leaves the Layton crossover the only notable game hanging?
Yep. People thought that, since the Layton crossover and Edgeworth games are spinoffs, they were gonna be bundled together as spinoff games. But it always made sense to mix the Miles games alone. As to Prof. Layton vs Phoenix Wright ever happening, I honestly don't know. I don't think it'll happen. Maybe they could bundle it with some of the Layton games if they ever get HD Remasterized.

It's been a 13 years wait! haha

Yeah, it's a nice game. I enjoyed it myself. Wasn't a fan of the major plot twist though ahhaah

Switch truly is the GOAT Ace Attorney console now.

Great ST!
I'm glad the series is getting multiplatform release, but yeah, Ace Attorney really is a Nintendo staple

And thank you! :)

Yes, the pre-order bonus comes with the physical bonus. Like V_ac said:
If it's like GAA's pre-order bonus then there'll be a download code for it in the case.
And the website states the following:
For Physical Version Purchases:
• The download code can only be redeemed once. An internet connection is required to download the bonus.

Second Edit: I should probably try to complete the original Ace Attorney trilogy before this comes out.
If you only play the first and second games, it should be more than enough. You can play the third game for some added references.

I really disliked Investigations 1 and never managed to finish it despite trying twice, but I will buy this to support the franchise and try Investigations 2.
I personally liked Investigations 1 and loved Investigations 2. I feel like the sequel is the culmination and maturity of what AAI-1 started.

Hey, ya'll. If you haven't followed the Ace Attorney account on Twitter, then you should! It's doing daily content and some new screenshots which are cool!

For anyone familiar with the I2 fan translation, datamines have dumped basically all of the new localized names and voice clips. Won't link it here, but you can find all of that stuff on the main Ace Attorney subreddit if you're interested.

Conflicted on whether to stick with the OG pixel art and just go with the new art.

One of the gaming reviewers did a preview video a week ago of the collection and falsely stated that the pixel art looked wrong because the backgrounds were the same HD backgrounds you normally see. I switched over to pixel art and it’s clear the background art is also pixelated.

From what I've seen the issue with the pixel art is that for whatever reason they used mixels (inconsistent pixel sizing) for the "outline"/silhouette of the characters.

Which doesn't look great once you notice it, unfortunately. From what I've heard that was an issue back on the iOS/Android versions too?

I've been playing pixelated but I'll probably do HD for the full game. The demo for GK2 reminded me how good taht game is but Ace Attorney Investigations is just a super rough game and I'd honestly suggest most people just skip it. Not that there's nothing of vaule in it, but it's a 5 case game and the first 3 cases are not fun. Easily the slowest start in gaming this side of Dragon Quest 7.

I had a spare two hours, so I decided to try the demo. Man, it feels good to be back playing Ace Attorney; the last time I touched the series was when The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles came out, where I binged it for about a week straight! The whole package looks and sounds nice, bringing the Investigations games in line with the other trilogies/duologies.

As for Prosecutor's Gambit, it's looking promising. As noted in the other thread, the localisation is really good, with the gang having a lot better characterisation. Having played the fan translation 3 years ago and remembering parts of the overarching conspiracy, it was fun to see the hints about Rook and Knight and their relationship, given how tight the narrative in AAI2 is.

I'm up there with you two. I think I'll stick with the OG Pixel Art. I don't like how the new art looks. It kinda reminds me of YoVille from Zynga Games

Yeah, no. Not a fan of the new art. It looks like generic Animé. They don't even resemble the closed-up talking animations.

You didn't get Apollo Trilogy?

Nope. Very busy at the time, and I wasn't in the mood to replay them quite yet anyway.
I'm finishing my replay of Dual Destinies (never got to replay it ever), and am enjoying it thus far. whenever you get the time, try to purchase it!

[EDIT]

Spoilers for Dual Destinies and both AAI games:

Like I mentioned, I've been replaying DD. I'm in the last case now, Turnabout for Tomorrow, and I noticed that both AAI games kinda lead to Edgeworth becoming Chief Prosecutor: Phoenix tells him he's chasing higher criminals, in the sense that they're not just homicide cases, but stuff like the Phantom, whom was an international spy. Which is basically what Edgeworth does a lot in the AAI games: deal with the Interpol.

My intent is to buy it on my next replay, either in the next two years, or if AA7 is announced and I binged the mainline six games again!

Hopefully Ace Attorney 7 is the next thing after the Miles Edgeworth Collection.

Whether it's a remake of the first game or a continuation, I can't guess

Full 3D remake of the first game could be interesting, but I'd assume if they do a remake it would be more of a RE:2 style remake of sorts in that it's like how you remember the game being as opposed to how the game was, a sort of tightening up of the game, which is understandable but a bit sad if they overly cut too much from Turnabout Samurai which while a slower case I feel really works on a tension standpoint. What I'd really like is if they revamped some visual stuff resembles an actual court more, i.e. the defendant is always sitting in either a defendant box or with the defense instead of putting them in the witness box as that doesn't really make any sense. I am also unsure how much business sense it makes considering how accessible the original trilogy is and has been for like half a decade now.
I personally think an Ace Attorney reboot of sorts, tkaing the core concept but with a brand new lawyer so it's divorced form a lot of the baggage, and could maybe even be set in Japan for real could be interesting

I feel like Phoenix, Apollo and Athena deserve another game. After that, reboot it.

Good morning, everyone! We are exactly ONE WEEK before the release of the Ace Attorney Investigations Collection!

I've been playing the Apollo Justice Trilogy and I'm shocked at how good Spirit of Justice is to me. I've not played the last case which I've heard is great, but already this game is a top tier AA for me alongside AA1, AA3, GAA and GAA2.

It was really fun to play the demo last weekend and remember how good AAI2 is. AAI1 however remains to not be a very good game. Hopefully it won't put too many people off trying the second one

Man, you got me shocked and thinking "Wait, the game's out already if there's already a ST??? How did i miss this???".

😑
You can quench that AAI thirst by playing the demo and pre-ordering ;)

It was really fun to play the demo last weekend
I haven't download the demo 'cause I'm barely starting Spirit of Justice (just barely finished the first case). Hopefully I can speedplay through the game in the coming days, ready for AAI Collection

and remember how good AAI2 is.
Just yesterday I was remembering how awesome of a first case Spirit of Justice's firs turnabout is. AAI2 has an awesome first case as well. I was thinking how this team (the ones that made AAI, AAI2, Dual Destinies and SoJ) really made one of the series two best first cases.

AAI1 however remains to not be a very good game.
Personally, AAI1 wasn't that bad. It's a good game, but not an awesome game like AAI2. I'd like to thin that AAI1 was proof of concept and in AAI2 they used the experience of making AAI2 and threw the ball out of the park!

I just think AAI 1 is just very slow and meandering anddoesn't relaly know what it's trying to be. I also feel the non-linear plot hurts it a bit. it also doesn't really get going until you uset he little theif to reconstruct crime scenes and you don't od it a lot in that game

I just think AAI 1 is just very slow
Yeah, it’s not very fast paced, even compared to its sequel

anddoesn't relaly know what it's trying to be.
Yeah, it feels like the Dual Destinies of the Edgeworth duology

I also feel the non-linear plot hurts it a bit.
I don’t think it hurts it. It followed the traditional Ace Attorney formula of only touching on the main plot during the last two cases

AAI is basically Yamazaki's first time being in the director's chair, following being a planner for the DS version of the first Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (it did have new content with the Rise of the Ashes) and Apollo Justice. Also being the first installment, it was also about getting the gameplay concepts to work, considering it was supposed to be a smaller game with Ema Skye at the helm. Edgeworth was chosen for his popularity.

AAI 2 is when they refined the structure and such, and properly tied the story to Edgeworth's character, versus him just reacting to events.

Just finished tgaa chronicles in time for aai duo and I gotta say I'm very glad tgaa gets really good. Wasn't a huge fan of either game but the last 3 cases of gaa2 has catapulted chronicles into being my 3rd favorite ace attorney game period. Tgaa is weird in that it's essentially part 1 and 2 of 1 game and not really 2 seperate games. I didn't know this and ended up playing 2 long after finishing 1, I recommend playing both games one after the other immediately.

My exact sentiments. I Always consider that AAI-1 ran, so that AAI-2 could walk.

I gotta applaud OP for digging up this ancient artifact of a trailer.
Haha thanks! I was a huge on Ace Attorney back then and active in the Court-Records Forum, which is why I vividly remember this trailer 😬

Hell, Court-Records still have the screenshots of the very early build of the first game

Man, I'm so confused. I've played AAI 1 before but never AAI 2 because I was waiting for the localization.

So in the demo I chose to start AAI 2, and... isn't this AAI 1? I've played this before. The plane, the balloon popped by the bullet, the red hood assassin... if I'm not mistaken the next scene will be inside the plane meeting a certain female prosecutor. I've double checked, and apparently this IS AAI 2, so... man I don't know. I've somehow played this before? Yet I can't remember it at all. Now I'm wondering if I ever played the first one. In my defense, it was all a very long time ago.

Also, the game can still be so sloppy. Having to compare the picture of the president with a laser dot on his head to his profile to prove that... he doesn't have a bright red birthmark on his forehead but is in fact being targeted by a laser is impossibly stupid. Anyone would understand immediately what they were looking at. Instead I chose basically every other piece of evidence, assuming that it was understood what we were looking at. I recall these games having more of that nonsense than the original trilogy.

Still, I love these games so whether I've played it or not I'll be playing it again.
