Pro Controller is the worst d-pad Nintendo has ever put out, any of the old controllers they put out for NSO will have better d-pads more or less.
Depending on the day, I'd say the gamecubes is worse honestly. The D-pad on the gamecube controller was damn worthless, mostly because it was tiny and really poorly positioned for any serious use. The only saving grace it has is that thank goodness 2D games weren't really a big thing on the console, so nobody really noticed how bad it was because we never used it.

That they're in competition though, says a lot.

Looking forward to seeing what December’s update is

Same here. I'm fully expecting it to be a disappointing drop of 1-2 N64 games and maybe a SNES/NES game or two, but it would be nice to be pleasantly surprised. It would be fun for Nintendo to drop a few of the bigger N64 games at one time.

I’m thinking 3-4 n64, 4-5 genesis and a random number of Nes/snes

I've been enjoying Genesis Switch online much more than N64. Once I got an SNES in 1991, I basically stopped buying Genesis games so games like Sonic 2 and Shinobi III have been great experiences. Looking forward to Ristar, Castlevania, Contra, and Phantasy Star. I hope Sword of Vermillion comes to the service. Such an under rated and overlooked rpg classic.

Guess it’s going to be every 6 months then from now on
Not sure on that. When they added SNES they started combining updates so while they would happen every three months we would get both NES and SNES at the same time, so we will now get a combo of all four probably. Considering how small the N64 library is, I expect only 1 or 2 64 games per update.

With the amount of planned titles datamined and the fact we have a roadmap, I’m expecting 3-4 n64 games an update myself. SNES got the full first party lineup* within a year and a half

N64 NSO is my favorite thing Nintendo has done in a while. Really feels good playing through the games again and they're missing most of my favorites still

Still need SMRPG, Earthbound, and Star Tropics 2!

I’m keeping my fingers crossed for Sim City. That is legit my most wanted SNES game.

Star Tropics 2 is the only one without lingering rights issues
Does EB really have lingering rights issues? I’ve seen several points due to some say the music, but is there actually something to back that up?

All I want is Earthbound. I stopped partway through my first ever play through on the Nintendo Wii U because life got in the way and now I don't have easy access to the system to re-visit. I just wanna finish what I started!

So December for sure for a new update?

'cause I beat all the SEGA games they have up there now. Gimme Pulseman or Rocket Knight Adventures.

I buckled and just spent the 7 bucks to buy it on the 3ds. There has to be some weird licensing stuff around that game and mario rpg that are keeping those games off of the service

Statistically super likely, we’ve gotten one every year since NSO launched. Plus it’s a move to entice increased buy in from the Christmas unit influx

Fingers crossed for some good SEGA in the December batch then. They already said a bunch of 64 games were coming back when the service was revealed, so we can probably guess at what new games would show up there, but the future of the MD/Genesis games is a mystey.

afaik nintendo owns the earthbound IP and trademarks but the actual games are a kind of split ownership between HAL, Creatures Inc. (formerly APE) and Itoi

SMRPG is the same issue where it's between Square-Enix and Nintendo

SMRPG is a tough one, as far as I can tell Square hasn't supported NSO at all...

They just don’t like paying for advertising rights outside of release reveal it seems

I sometimes kinda wonder if the only way games like Mario RPG and Earthbound will see the light of day on NSO is if they're made a special perk for paying for the Expansion Pack. Same thing with other NES/SNES games like Mega Man, Castlevania, Rare's stuff (i.e Killer Instinct, Battletoads), etc.

The Expansion Pack being so much more costly than base NSO was probably the result of them getting more prominent third party support from SEGA and Microsoft and whatever. They even got Konami games like Castlevania Bloodlines and Contra Hard Corps, despite those already being available in collections.

Itoi likes fangames apparently and I wonder under which circumstances would he allow Nintendo to put Earthbound and Earthbound Beginnings on NSO

I’ve got two games left to beat on N64 Online (previously beaten Mario 64, Star fox 64 and Mario Kart 64 and so not revisited). Namely Mario Tennis and Win Back.

Certainly have my moneys worth so far, and love playing with the N64 controller

Signed up for this yesterday so my wife and her sister could play Mario Kart, plus I’m sure I’ll check a bunch out on there. I have barely played any Genesis games! Lots of history to dig through there.

Paper Mario coming to NSO Expansion Pack Dec. 10.

Good addition to the service, I hope they aren't just adding this to NSO.

Still holding out hope for Rocket Knight Adventures going to Genesis NSO...

My wishlist:

  • option to remove or change borders including removing the player icon(s).
  • proper button remapping
  • improved N64 emulation
  • a well-publicised and clear roadmap/release schedule (i.e. 1 N64 game per month on X day, along with 2 games from all other consoles)
  • more game trials
  • more gold points for digital purchases and/or additional discounts on select titles
  • more pomp and ceremony for important celebrations, like Zelda 35th could have included Satellaview titles, or access to that infamous Zelda cartoon series
  • more licensed games

Feel free to add to the wishlist.

Has anyone had any luck in getting the N64 controller recently? I really want one but don’t want to shell out $120 for it.

It's going to be interesting to see when Nintendo add GB/GBC and what sort of options they provide, as well as whether that goes to the base sub or the expansion pack. Personally I expect any further systems to go on to the expansion pack.

The things I'd really wanted for GB/GBC would be extra features like filters so that you could replicate the look of different GB models - black and white, sickly green for that OG screen effect, the extra display styles you could access using a GB game on a GBC and pressing different button inputs on start-up, Super GameBoy mode. My concern is that Nintendo's efforts with NSO can often be so minimalist that we don't get neat extras like that. I think the 3DS had a button input which allowed you to experience the original green screen effect, though, so perhaps we still get that.

We should get some cool functionality and perhaps unexpected titles - maybe even Pokemon games and their saves being compatible with Pokemon Stadium on the N64 NSO app, given it seems to have transfer pak functionality.

I wonder if they'll sell a little Gameboy wireless controller

Thought, what if part of Sega’s contract is that Genesis NSO updates get advertised separately for prominence?
