StarTopic The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom |ST| Linkin' Parts (Please Tag All Spoilers)

Finished the main story earlier and have been playing for another 5 hours or so. Missing 10 shrines and tons of side adventures and quests. If it's anything like BotW it'll take me years due to me taking my sweet time.

If I had to sit down and compile a list of issues I have with Tears of the Kingdom I could probably come up with pages of smaller nitpicks as well as some larger problems (I still might, just for fun). Like the crazy amount of crystal shrines. Or the fact that they didn't overhaul the basic combat a bit. Or that I can't upgrade the Archaic Tunic.

And yet in the light of everything I played in those roughly 60 hours (that went by in what felt like the blink of an eye), the way the game kept surprising me throughout and how I can barely tear myself away from it... I can't see it as anything but one of my favourite games ever and a worthy successor to BotW. They took the Hyrule I knew from playing for over 140h and made me look at it with different eyes while giving me the tools to interact with it however I saw fit. There's a lot I could say to praise it but most of it would give all those smaller and bigger moments away and I think people should get to experience them themselves. I had an amazing time with it and I can't wait to see what's next, either in the form of DLC or a new game.

Can someone give me a hint on how to open the door at the Ancient Columns. Or if there is a quest please tell me where it starts

I did the Rito dungeon and wow, that was great. I can't say I care for the music being eh but other than that it was awesome. It's funny because I actually got stuck for a good 15-20 minutes thinking I needed a lever, a rod, and a handle for different locks. Then I realized that hey, this is fucking Tears of the Kingdom, and just used a fucking icicle that I roasted to get to a specific size to combine two gears together. 😂 I fucking love that. I felt so accomplished making my own solution.

Though the one with the gear you're supposed to turn felt kind of awkward? Also, got to be one of my favorite bosses in Zelda history. That was amazing. In general, I have to say that the Rito area has been my favorite so far (and a bit north of that), and it's funny because I remember feeling the Rito quest was weak in BOTW. The snowy areas are just great. I've absolutely loved the last 6+ hours of my experience.

re the part about exploring caves: the game usually hides a ton of decayed weapons and fuseable rocks within the breakable ones. It's at least in my experience a much more efficient way to explore caves in the early game before you get a certain skill. I barely used bombs outside of combat throughout my 50h+ of playing.

Also, don't waste arrows on brightbloom seeds, you can just throw those.
Doh, I went back to the cave and you're right. I don't know how I didn't think of that when I've done something similar before. I think I didn't have a rock weapon at that time, spent 20-30 minutes trying to efficiently use bombs and reloading a save, and then got serious tunnel vision thinking I needed to use bombs in the first place lol. I also didn't know you could destroy fuse tips on a weapon at the time and re-fuse them. In retrospect I should have just used a bomb or two to get the weapons under the rock and fused them with rock heads, or replaced my fuses. It's especially funny because bombs are actually terrible for destroying rock walls if they have multiple layers of rock to them like in that cave, way easier to just poke one small hole in the wall with a rock weapon.

Finished the

Gerudo temple, and I actually like its simplicity. The quest were more grounded than the other and the defense mission of the city was very good too. Also I fetl the puzzles in the temple were easier than even the ship.

On HowLongToBeat I see that this game is shorter than Botw for main + extras but how is this possibile?

It seems way bigger to me
Tbf I feel BOTW’s HLTB is also pretty inflated; I did critical path + a few extras and clocked about 40 hours (and I don’t consider myself to have rushed it or play it especially fast) and main for that says 50. But yeah, I think it will even out as time goes on. I’m guessing I will hit 90 hours in TOTK before I hit credits, I spent a lot of time in this game exploring between story quests.

If they end up doing a "remaster" or sorts for the next console, it'd be really cool if they could implement something like this for the Shrines.

Rift Apart is all I ever think about any time I enter one of these lol.

Did find her the first time today after 160 hours of playtime lol
Tried it three times and was not able to do it within the time limit...
So I left her where she was.
After she gave me 80 rupees(which was too low) for picking up her toys I "scared" her again and refused to pick them up.

I will not help if I see her somewhere else lmao. Nuh uh gurl.

Shooting a brightbloom seed with an arrow serves a different purpose than throwing them imo. And in my experience you will have waaaaaaaay more arrows than brightbloom seeds anyway. I think I currently have 3 brightbloom seeds left and I have well over 300 arrows and I use them in almost every enemy encounter.

... what? How?! I have like 400 brightbloom seeds and 100 large ones, and I think I've never had more than 70-80 arrows at once in the entire game. I'm constantly strapped for arrows.

I just have 300 of both

How are you guys using so many resources

Literally the reverse for me lol

I feel like I don't even use arrows all that often, it's just that I also don't find very many of them, either. Whereas brightbloom seeds are scattered like candy in every single cave in the entire game

I think one of the coolest additions to this game is also one of the most disappointing:

It's so cool having a squad of allies follow you around. But, the way you activate their abilities is a pain in the ass. Having to go up and press A, when A is already the button for picking items up, just causes a number of problems. They also aren't very aggressive and kind of just stand there most of the time. I wouldn't want them to make the combat too easy, but maybe make enemies harder then? Just feels like whenever I'm fighting an opponent, the 5 of them are just huddling around me doing nothing but throwing an attack in one at a time every 10 seconds. Also just felt they didn't know wtf to give Sidon in particular lol.

Honestly, the biggest perk is that it looks cool. Just wish it functioned way better.

I shoot bright seeds because the depths weren't dark enough to be a threat, so I use arrows to scout out far away areas and see if there's anything worth checking out.

...Early in the game. Hours after exploring the depths I slowly but surely became starved for arrows and remembered my younger, innocent self. 🥲 If the Rito questline didn't exist idk what i'd do lol

Kind of sick and twisted that they released artwork like "here's hot Ganondorf btw" but then in the game he's constantly pulling faces like he's in The Mask. 😭

Also, today I managed to do a Penn quest before he told me about it. I rocked up to the stable he was at with the missing horse and he was like "uh how did you..." You got scooped, baby!

I think I currently have about 150 arrows and 450 brightbloom seeds, not including about 55 giant brightbloom seeds.

Here's what I do, I only throw regular Brightbloom seeds, don't use a bow and arrow unless you're shooting giant brightbloom seeds. And when you shoot giant bright bloom seeds, fire them really far away from you and use a bow that fires multiple arrows like a lynel bow, so you get 3 giant brightblooms planted for the price of one, the farther you fire the more the bow spreads them out, but I'll admit even then it doesn't spread them out much.

The Gerudo region has some really funny side mission stuff

I just infiltrated the Yiga base with the Uniform and now they teached me Earth jutsu mastery (the wind/earth attack from the big Yiga enemies) and I got a replica of the Thunder Helmet they created... also somebody tried to sell me his spicky car for 999 rupees

Finally arrived at Hateno Village.

made a beeline for the old homestead before saving and turning off and boy do Nintendo want their anime thirst trap but also their plausible deniability. Just Zelda, living in Link's house, with one bed, and his century old hair tie kept as a memento in her secret study.

Actually think it's kinda sweet and not sure if I'd want them to make a bigger deal of there potentially being a romantic relationship. It's just another part of the fabric of the world.

Also annoyed I didn't light the torches when I ended up in the castle throne room like, 50 hours ago. At least I unlocked a shrine there so I can quick travel back...

I have like 180ish of both Brightblooms and arrows. You don't need to throw Brightblooms everywhere, you can generally figure out where the ground is based on Poes, gloom, enemy encampments, stuff like that. Cliffs and pits can be tricky but if you have the overworld towers activated you can go by that map

For arrows, use Ultrahand to break any crates that you find

I’ll admit that I often stumble around in the dark if I can get away with it rather than throw a bright bloom seed.

Really sometimes I'm like

Doing the Zora quest and traversing through the black goo and I'm like "wish there was a way to traverse this quickly" and then some NPC "throw water at it " and I'm like "Ooooooooooooooooooohhh...... that's why the path was full with splash fruit...:"

After 105 hours, I have completed The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, if I said it's a masterpiece it would be a understatement. I never thought they can top themselves with Breath of the Wild and they did. The moment I saw the entire Hyrule from above I knew this was the same moment as when I first went outside Shrine of Resurrection in Breath of the Wild. Developers who themselves made entire new abilitties with Fuse and Ultrahand, based on what fans were doing with BOTW. Overworld is so greatly reused, with character development and passing of time. Altough I have some complains with the game they are just small things in general. EPD3 deliever again and this is piece of art and GOTY 2023. Thanks to everyone in development team, Fujibayashi and Aonuma in front and center.

Last but not least, non of this would be possible without passionate Zelda fans who motivated the team during development:

Takizawa: Even though it's been six years since the last title was released, many fans still post drawings, comments and videos on social media. Especially when the team is facing difficulties during development, these things light up the eyes of our staff and make them think, “Alright, let's show 'em what we've got!” I really want to thank all our fans.

Fujibayashi: I totally agree. Our fans have motivated us so much in the development of this game. Thank you so much!

Is there a chasm in the Hebra area
Seems there has to be one under
Rito village given the implications of the depths layout, but I still cannot find it.
Going to answer in nested spoiler tags, each revealing more info.
Yes, there is, but it's hard to find.
If you follow Josha's quest line, she'll eventually give you a pretty big hint where it is.
It's hidden on the side of the cliffs under Rito Village.

Weird, I thought I scanned that entire area. Guess I gotta take a second look. Thanks!

Enjoyable "bring the crystal to the shrine" quest where I completely ignored the arch island the game wanted me to manipulate to transfer the crystal from one island to another; instead I used the method refined during the Korok Space Programme. Fuse a rocket to it at the desired angle, let it fall over, use Recall to reverse the rocket back to the correct angle, wack it and hope for the best.

Extremely irritated that
they brought back the randomly spawning Yiga in the overworld. Ugh.
I suppose they don't spawn if you wear the Yiga gear? But then if I need to venture into somewhere hot or cold or whatever, I'm screwed. Plus having to switch to that outfit everytime I'm exploring, then back into whatever I want to be in immediately afterwards is going to be a pain.

The Yiga shit really bummed me out in Breath of the Wild too. Why :(

From what I can tell they don't show up nearly as often as they did in BotW and are mostly in the depths

So after Rito dungeon I have unlocked the secret royal passage or something like that (don’t know in English) where you activate the first tower and holy shit it’s huge I’ve not yet finished the cave

I’m speechless

I'm doing the Gerudo area last, and it is reminding me that it's the best zone in the game. Just great stuff, so many caves, fun places to explore, I love the vibe, etc.

I also really like how temperature works in that region. I just got there finally (only 1 dungeon down but I have visited the other regions) immediately found 3 caves by
following blupees

I love caves so much. The diversityin asthetics could be a bit higher, but it is enough to keep me interested and I love the layouts. In my last session, I encountered 3 caves, one by accident, one following a mission from Tuli and one just following the advice of a random NPC, and the three of them were so different, with their own puzzles, theme and a good reward. I like them even more than the Depths.

How are you guys using so many resources
Seriously, I have like a thousand arrows. That’s not an exaggeration, this game doles them out almost everywhere.

I’m speechless
In retrospect it was a really good idea to bring attention to that area via sidequest. Really opens your eyes on to how big the caves can get in this game.

Finally figured out how to get into the forest, and holy crap! I was not expecting what I found in there.
I will forever hate the person who decided to (Korok Forest spoilers) trap you in a small arena with Gloom Hands.

I was planning to do Zora last, but seems like it’s a better idea to leave the desert for last. Not like I’m gonna advance the story for the next 20 hours of playtime haha.

I am 90 hours in and this is the first time I am hearing of this girl and her plush toys.

I take it she's found by the coast, right? I knew I should have ridden Epona along the beaches. Guess that's something else to add to my to-do list.

I don't think I've ever held more than like 70 arrows but I've also not been dipping below 50 so it's been fine.

Haven't posted here in a while, but I've finished two dungeons now (Goron then Zora) and received the master sword (that revelation though, wtf!) after completing all the tears.

This game is kinda nutty.
