Question: Does Nintendo own Bayonetta now? Or do they just happen to have signed a permanent exclusivity agreement with Platinum/SEGA for all games from Bayo 2 onwards?
It's like the Fatal Frame games Nintendo had a hand in (the Wii remake of 2, 4, and 5.) Nintendo funded/published and has some ownership of 2/3/Origins, but the first game and the series as a whole is still fully owned by Sega.

Sega can in theory make a new game without Nintendo, but Bayonetta's so far down the list in terms of importance to Sega there's no reason for them to.

Considering that Bayonetta 1 is still sold on Steam and the Xbox Live Marketplace today, I think it's pretty obvious that Nintendo does not own Bayo.

This is why I thought we should have waited till June before opening this thread. No one expected Nintendo to do anything in May other than release Zelda. It's going exactly how everyone thought it was going to go and because of that, people are less certain that Nintendo will show anything over the summer.
counterpoint: it's fun though

As much as I want this, I got a feeling that it’s extremely unlikely especially since it’s even easier for them to incorporate new things in this world than it was in BotW. But this is probably not the right thread for it lol.

I mostly just want a good Master Mode 😭
i defiantly think there's enough left unanswered in TOTK where they could do a prequel or post-game expansion with a new map but only 1/3 the seize of BOTW's map

Now I wanna know what the reason for that is. 😅

Not tryina be a punk, I'm sincerely curious.
(Replying to this like two weeks late cuz I'm bad with internet)

I like zelda a lot actually, but due to poor time management and being swamped at work, botw remains sealed in a drawer years later. I used to dedicate entire summers to zelda and want to give both games that level of attention, but I'm currently in a life stage that doesn't allow for much gaming sadly. It's looking to stay that way until early 2024, so maybe summer 2024 will be my time.

It remains as it always was;

Nintendo owns the games they funded (Bayo 2, 3 and Origins), SEGA owns the IP. Platinum is only the ones developing the games, having no control over the things.

I think May was always out of the question for anything other than Tears of the Kingdom to happen. I'm enjoying TotK as much as everyone else, but I hope this thread speeds up a bit as we head into June!

I'm going to post the first guided discussion topic around Thursday to give us time to humor the idea of a Direct next week. Or maybe it was supposed to be this week?

I do wish Konami would localise Momotetsu. It’s one of the best hidden gems on Switch.

It’s Japan exclusive atm, but tremendously successful there. Sold over 3.5M copies!

I bought it myself from PlayAsia last year, and I’m loving it. It’s essentially a very chaotic party game, and it has those old school Hudson Soft vibes. In fact, some ex-Hudson Soft devs worked on this game.

In the February Direct a sequel was announced, but that too is Japan exclusive.(for now.)
The game had to be Japan exclusive because it's just too Japanese with tons of Japanese references that I imagine would be a pain to translate and localise. That said, given that the new game is having players going around the world, not just Japan, there's still a little hope.

Just got a scoop from my inside source at tree house. In the next mario game, mario is going to tell bowser to “go fuck yourself”. Miyamoto was in the recording studio with Charles Martinet, they did the take like 80 times to get it just right.

they don't but they basically have the publishing rights to the series at this point.

idk why they don't put Bayo 2 and 3 on steam. would help and would be a good way to dip their toe into PC publishing.

I’m just excited to see more Pikmin 4 soon regardless of whether or not there is a direct.
This and BCP Wave 5
Yeah this was me last year, but we actually had H2 games announced back then. I'm VERY excited for both of those, but I also really wanna know what Nintendo's got in store after that, so with so much that needs to be known, I think a Direct is more than reasonable

They don't want to dip their toe into pc publishing, and if they did they wouldn't do it with perpetual under performer Bayonetta.

Every day in June will be Miyamoto Direct, with a daily hologram of Miyamoto popping out of your Switch demanding you finish Zelda before Pikmin 4 comes out.

Not sure. Nate still hasn’t heard anything and we’re about to enter June. He usually hears about it around a month out. It’s not looking good for June.
If Nate knows now, he would likely still not tell anything, as last time, he confirmed the Feb Direct for sure in like NateTheHate only few days between airing. Anyway, we still got plenty of time.

June to July with a general + 3rd party direct, and an indie showcase direct. I don't think this year 's direct will be big on 1st party games in quantity, and think it will be combined with 3rd party games in one direct.

What's certain: Pokemon DLC, Splatoon 3 DLC, Totk DLC, Pikmin 4, and a holiday game. Also more NSO games.

Good chance but not guaranteed: Metroid Prime 4, trailer a Mario game (2D?) For the holidays

I'm not holding my breath/but it's possible: Drake/Switch 2 reveal with a November release.

All I really know is there'll be a Direct before TGS, but that's a long time off. So I'd be really surprised if there's literally no Direct of some kind between now and then (Partner, Mini, General, maybe Pikmin 4 but that doesn't solve the no announcements problem)

Excluding my nonsense ramblings about this week being it, here’s my genuine thoughts on the situation

OK another possibility has arrived:

This summer Nintendo tweets out the announcement of a Blue Ocean / casual game (e.g. Tomadachi Life 3, 1-2 Switch sequel) for release in August or September. Then around August they do a larger showcase announcing games for the rest of the fiscal year.

  • with Switch slowing down, it makes sense they might not have enough for two more full directs this year. Those two Directs were always the two closest and a bit of a stretch to fill out at times anyway. This strategy would cover the same time frame in one direct.
  • we already know they tweet Blue Ocean stuff separately from Directs
  • leaves a lot of attention on Zelda, the mainstay which will continue to drive interest as long as people continue to make gundams on twitter, and Pikmin, the brand they have been trying to grow (Pikmin Bloom)
  • gets something on the release calendar so they are not going 3+ months without releasing a game, not waiting too long to announce games that are coming later this year, and leaves them enough time to market holiday title(s)

This would also fit with the more pessimistic mood set by some insider types (e.g. Chris Dring saying he heard Nintendo is going later in the year, Andy Robinson and Jeff Grubb personally speculating that Nintendo is not going to do anything this summer).

Manifesting a Tomodachi game for later this year. I don't much care if it's revealed on Twitter or in a Direct.
