Discussion Man, am I the only one less hyped after the latest BotW2 trailer?

Oh wow I got pretty incensed by this thread huh

I'm just shocked that so many people genuinely believe this might be all they can show. Can you seriously not tell how insanely confident they are in this game? They'll have had over 5 years of dev time so far, and you seriously think EPD 3 can only make some DLC using mainly the same game?

It's like you've been paying zero attention to Nintendo these past 6 years if you seriously believe that.

damn, I should have just believed that the product would be good and pre-ordered it instead of finding out it was good later and also pre-ordering it

Man the release of this game made me forget how much doomposting there was about it early this year. Though I can say I also just needed more of a reason to be excited for the game that just “It’s a new Zelda”, because that was all that February trailer told us. Glad we got that gameplay showcase a few weeks before launch.

The game being good and this particular trailer being bad are not mutually exclusive things.

Now how do I translate the above message into a series of horn toots?

I agreed with the.OPs premise at the time. The early trailers didn't show much and felt like more of the same. The final trailer though and finally playing it, wow. Yes, a lot of elements are just extensions to Botw but the gameplay is so different. You lose all your botw abilities and gain new ones. Everything is ramped up.

I had a second biggest post count in pre-release thread, if you don't trust EPD3 then I don't know what you are doing. It was fun seeing all these posts. It will be the same fucking thing with next Zelda, it's gonna be announced early, with minimal trailers (because of story reasons and them holding everything until very close to launch), some people will complain and then it will be 10/10.

Considering Aonuma outright said the early marketing wasn’t getting the metrics they were hoping for I don’t get what this victory lap stuff is all about

Just being silly. I tried to make people chuckle by using the word "toot" since it sounds silly. I know I got a lot of good laughs from many of the well-played responses.

Thread bump because I want to toot my horn for being right.

Tears of the Kingdom is a 10/10 game that is breaking sales records. I saw it coming because the forum dwellars were melting down about it back in February.

That's nice, but after playing TotK, I still agree with Dusa. The game is okay. Like I thought earlier in the thread, I enjoyed other games this year a lot more than TotK so far. I think I'd probably enjoy it more if I was into Minecraft.

The one thing I was wrong about was that Zelda isn't exactly a damsel in the game. It's a big step up from the role she played in BotW, but still far from optimal sadly.

As someone who loves Minecraft, I don’t really see the connection. Ultrahand is a big part of TotK, but not so big that it dominates everything else, and even then it’s purpose and utilization is very different from Minecraft’s building and crafting. Two wildly different games, I don’t think enjoyment of one has any correlation with the other.

It feels like building things is the big draw of the game so far. Build a flying machine to make it easier to traverse the sky, etc. I just beat a dungeon where the solution to a lot of the puzzles appeared to be "build something to cross over there", "attach this to your mine cart", etc. I think the game is definitely made to appeal to people who love building contraptions, creating their own solutions to problems, which is neat! But I think it's just okay. Like I said in my last post, I'm not so interested in games with a big focus around building and crafting (like Minecraft), so that's probably a big part of why I'm not getting as much out of this game as other people. I suppose the aim of crafting in either title is different, but I lack an interest in it in general.

The fact that I played through two truly great games (albeit in a different genre) right before this didn't help things either! I wonder if I would be having more fun if I gave it more space?

And yet I'm spending more time having fun with it than you are because you're here being mad that people weren't hyped in February

Curious

You gotta give me some tips on how to enjoy this more. Maybe point me at some more gender affirming clothes for Link? I found a cute top but I'd like more than that. Had to take it off for the last dungeon or just get lit on fire or something, which sucked.

I mean I'm on my third dungeon and have done dozens of shrines, so

I duped 100 Diamonds so that I never had to worry about Rupees and the game is infinitely more fun

I didn't know you could duplicate diamonds! Any cute clothes I can buy?

That's so interesting because I hate Minecraft and generally don't like games that are so open and undirected because they make me feel stupid and uncreative. I'm the kid who only ever built the Lego models with the detailed instructions, and I love IKEA furniture.

But somehow, TotK bridges that gap. It gives me a taste without being overwhelming
The same is true of the openness of the world, which is usually a turn off but works for me just in this case.

I don't really understand why.

Weird that this thread keeps getting bumped with horn tooting, especially since the "I always know the marketing was bad" people are doing the exact same obnoxious pointing and flexing because Aunoma said the gameplay demo was in response to low hype or whatever

So uh, can we just stop with the horrendously irritating victory laps altogether? None of you look smart

What are you talking about

I think the stealth clothes are pretty cute, that's what I wore to make Link more femme in BotW

Thanks for the video! I'll check that out later, might be able to bug my way to a better time!

I'll check out the stealth clothes too, sounds cute! I wonder if I need the whole set or if they'll go with my blue top?

I'm literally trying to talk about clothes

Personally I only dupe for currency - ie, Rupees via Diamonds and Zonai rocks to be used for Autobuild. Otherwise it loses the fun of scavenging

Yeag, it might be best not to duplicate everything, just what I need to buy whatever outfits I like.

Just looked at a picture of the stealth set by the way and it's really cute! Where do you find it here?

Kakariko

Thanks for the tip! I'll have to try and remember where that is, haven't found it yet. I got the Zora dungeon next but it doesn't look fun, maybe I'll go find that first and come back later.

Hey that's my video!

What are you talking about
Self explanatory

Power to ya, but since you started that convo while I was typing my comment, I figured it'd be clear I was talking about the past three days of bumping as opposed to you

This is what happened to me. By the time I had 50+ large charges I realized I'd pretty much removed the incentive to go exploring

It's not self-explanatory because of your first reply lol, like I have no idea what you were getting at there

Oh the u sure? reply? That was unrelated

I was talking about all the people bumping this thread saying "hee hee this thread sure aged well"

I mean she's pretty central to the story they have told in this game, not really sure why her role isn't "optimal", or why any character should have an optimal role for that matter?

Personally thought a lot of her story was emotional/moving for a Zelda game.
