Discussion Ys X: Nordics to launch for PS5, PS4, and Switch on September 28, 2023 in Japan

don't think so. there are non-jp asian versions by Clouded Leopard though. NIS might have released their ports in Japan
According to Wikipedia (maybe not the most reliable site, but still), there were versions released in Japan, although they were made by Clouded Leopard.

Don't those already have Switch versions in Japan, though?
As far as I can tell just PlayStation in Japan, and until very recently, PC for Asia outside Japan. Not seeing anything about a Switch version.

Maybe NISA is taking point on Switch port so we won't see it until the English version is out?

Regardless, back when Falcom pivoted from PC to PSP, Ys Seven was their critical transition game; I can see Ys X being the game that serves a similar function for Switch (albeit, Playstation will still get games).

Just got to the town section in Ys 9 and OOF, what a hit the framerate took. Nothing game-breaking, but still a tad unsightly.

PS4 version has the same problem?
I played the game on ps4 pro and I remembers being astounded this game had performance issues especially in Balduq. It's not literally unplayable tier, but definitely hard not to notice jank.

Wow.

I don't know what happened with Ys 9, but hopefully the same issues don't plague 10.

Really looking forward to this one; here's hoping they'll deliver a great Switch version!
(Hah, looking back at my post on page 1 of this thread, my hope still holds true.)

Unfortunately, there's 0% chance that Falcom is developing for Switch first, and I don't trust them to be able to deliver a competent port either. Still, it will probably be substantially better than Ys 9.

Ys 9 had trouble on the native system. So they would have to shape up quite a bit to avoid problems. I think they have for their more recent games, so maybe they'll have a good foundation for doing a port themselves

I know 10 is being ported internally while 9 was outsourced.
What I expect is that the game is build primarily for PS4 where performance won't be perfect and will still struggle in some areas, but will overall be fine (because that seems to be pretty common in all their games) and the Switch port will struggle even more often than PS4.
PS5 version should run pretty much flawlessly, unless they screw up somehow.

Maybe I'm just doomposting and it will actually be fine on Switch, but I have very little faith in Falcom.

I wouldn't be shocked by the existence of a native Switch 2 port by the time this get localized, whether by NISA or Falcom themselves.

Game looks great btw, release a trailer next Falcom thank you.

Loved VIII, wasn’t as interested in the aesthetic of IX and then heard it was real bad on switch, so I never ended up playing it. :( I’ve loved the ones I have played though! High hopes

Fair enough. Did you like the music at least?
Can't say I remembered the music of Ys IX. I stopped playing pretty early on, but that's mainly just because I wasn't hooked in and I have so many games competing for my time.

Hm not sure I'm a huge fan of losing the variety that came with 8 and 9's parties of 6, but otherwise the combat looks like a nice change of a pace and a bit more strategic

Pretty excited for this one, loved both 8 and 9 even if 9 was decidedly weaker

Try this

It was still good, but IMO nowhere near as good as Ys 8. Or at least didn't stick out nearly as much to me. I still keep the Ys 8 soundtrack on rotation sometimes.

I think Ys 9's music is like the game itself. Higher highs than Ys 8 but many lower lows. Not as consistent.

I didn't like Ys 9 nearly as much as 8 in general, pretty much across the board. It was still fun, and the movement abilities and combat were cool, but that was about it. I liked the music, world, exploration, colors, characters (especially Dana), plot, etc. all more in Ys 8. In particular, I thought the 'twist' of the world and Dana's character/solo sections to be far better than the 'alternate Adol' twist in 9, which I was very 'eh' about. I just connected a lot more with the tragedy and pathos of Ys 8's world than the one in 9.

Big fan of the first few seconds of Desert after tears

edit: rest of it's pretty good too, not a fan of this kinda metal tho

They shared some screenshots and information on new characters a few days ago.

I'll be honest, I'm not really diggin most of the designs in this game - they just don't match what comes to my mind when thinking of Ys. Otherwise it looks good, definitely more appealing to me than 9.
Also, it's a bit worrying that the game is supposed to launch before the end of September and there still isn't even a trailer.

Also also, I really hope they show Switch footage before launch - the whole point of releasing it simultaneously with the PS version and doing the port internally is to hopefully attract some of the Switch audience, and you won't really do that by hiding it (or releasing a terrible version...)

I would not worry about a trailer. I believe Kuro's first trailer was in June so we still got time.

As for the possibility of a "terrible version", using Kuro again, that game was not great at launch (ps4) but they ironed out the stutters and performance in like a month plus, so its totally possible the switch version is not great. This will be their first switch title with the new engine so we will see how flexible/optimized it can be.

Its odd. The first video seems like PS4 footage (30fps) while the second video seems to run at 60 so PS5? Early build it seems.

Traversal seems cool.

I was hoping the ship would be less... boring? I don't know, it seems slow. The opposite of what Ys is for me.

The world exploration and speed + traversal elements seem really fun. Combat looks good as well. I'm looking forward to this, I just hope that the plot and character hooks are more interesting this time.

Some unexpected Ys X footage. Looks good, we'll see about the performance.

Hope localization doesn't take too long. With this, Oath in Felghana and Tokyo Xanadu, it could be another great your for Falcom fans in the West.

That's most likely, unless Falcom has changed its stance on handing out the script early. Also depends on NISA's release schedule for next year.
Ahh didn't know that was why the turnaround was slow. I don't mind, it's what used to be the case for most Japanese games. Plus, I still have most Ys games I haven't played (Oath, Celceta, and then V through VII I still need to get through)

Maybe by the time it gets an international release we can play it via backwards compatibility Switch 2 and perhaps avoid any potential performance issues that way...

Intrigued by the sailing mechanics and crew aspects.

It needs a way for Adol to shipwreck himself, that man is a Jonah.

That should be how you get to new islands, you literally have to crash-land on one and then gather resources to rebuild your ship so you can go do it again on the next one

This is a very boring boxart. I thought they were gonna use the whale concept art.

Some new footage. Music sounds great.

It's a lot less busy than IX's is for sure.

Good thing we got from the stream is that Singa learnt that there's an instrument called the flute. Inspired by Xeno 3 lol.
That's his third one he knows of after the guitar and the violin. I wonder what he discovers next.

So it seemed that the earlier box arts were place holders. I like it, its simple and colorful.

Yeah that’s much better. Colorful and shows the character designs, but still has a bit of that runic map look to it in places.
