Ink Vac is really just a massively downgraded Bubble Blower and nothing more outside of the cool but extremely rare kill shots from the other side of the map, this special is so sad

I've been thinking really hard about how to rework it, I think a way to cancel the vacuum early (but with some extra time before firing) is 100% necessary for it to ever be any good

I maintain that it would be a lot better/more fun if you could just suck up one inkling if they get too close to the vac, at the cost of the vac instantly going into shoot mode no matter what amount of ink it sucked up before
 
  • Some armor (like the Booyah! Bomb).
  • Being able to to fire the shot even if it's not completely charged.
  • More/better mobility when walking or swimming.
  • Absorbing the enemy ink on the floor/walls so it wouldn't be that easy to get behind the user.

when i first started playing splat3 i was so certain that this was how ink vacc would work i thought i was lagging the first couple times i used it and it didnt clean enemy ink off the ground lol

it makes such perfect intuitive sense for it to work that way and frankly its kinda wild that it doesnt lol

…No but seriously I am willing to give that game a try but it is funny how the specials are just blatantly ripped off of Splatoon 2. It also makes me appreciate the visual clarity of Splatoon because Foamstars looks…noisy in comparison.

…probably will have better map designs over the Tetris blocks though.
 
I like the foam twist, but none of the aesthetics and the gameplay looks off.

Compare how much care Splatoon put into the visual, sound and interactive qualities of the ink to how these human characters just walk on foam clouds like they're solid ground. And those surf boards? Wave Race they are not.
 
conceptual cohesion is one thing i never really took for granted in splatoon, especially knowing that the game started out with things like mario characters and rabbits instead of the squid/ink/underwater life motif they finally settled on

but after watching that foamstars trailer i definitely realize i took the visual clarity and readability of splatoon for granted. some crazy shit will be going down in splatoon but youll still be able to follow the game if youre paying attention. foamstars looks like a disaster

I don't trust S-E with anything that isn't an RPG.

If anyone was concerned about finishing the catalog they're doing a 1.2x bonus for the last week of the season. It's a nice little touch they added this season
 
Outside gameplay-related balance changes, I hope some things are changed regarding the Shell-Out Machine.
  • Increase reward of cash for each maxed out sticker and decoration from 2000 to 3000.
  • Increase reward of cash for an already-obtained emote from 6000 to 10000.
  • Make it so that the second attempt is half the price of a standard shell out, so in this case, it's 15000 for the second attempt (3rd and beyond still requires 30000).
I don't see any problem with increasing the cash rewards when it's already exorbitant if you roll the machine normally, and I don't know why maxed out stickers/decors provide so little. It's not like you're doing it again for free since you still pay to reroll again shortly.

Squid beakon and super chump is a crap set for dualie squelchers playing public, and you're not going to be able to change my mind just because it theoretically works great at the top echelons of X rank players. Extremely disappointing that that's what it's stuck with as an alt. 🤷‍♂️

That wiper alone is going to completely ...wipe... It as a support option, without even considering other existing choices.

ey when can we expect patch notes? my brain remembers them landing at least a few days before the actual patch but i cant remember what the exact time frame would be
 
Was hoping Heavy Deco got wall :(. My initial impression is that it won't have an identity or niche over the regular Heavy. Very interested to see how the patch notes are going to play out with all these subs.

There are alot of little ways Ink Vac can be improved so I am really hoping the devs do something this time. Making the vacuum funnel paint a little bit could help with supporting team with turf or keeping a zone. I also think they can increase the object damage further and also make it do 35-45 damage per second to enemies who are in the vacuum area, which would actually make it good at supporting teammates. TBH, I feel like they have the luxury to be a bit crazy here as all of the current weapons with Vac arn't that great.

Now for some crazy hot takes:

I don't think Heavy Weight Class should exist in this meta.

If you can't fix Ink Vac remove it from the game and replace it with Echolocator. Echolocator's duration would be 9 seconds but the echolocation only lasts 5 seconds. For the remaining 4 seconds, only the caster gets Thermal Ink. Given the weapons that vac is on and with the proper special point allocations I don't think it will be that big of a deal.

Charging a Curling Bomb should be changed to making it behave like a Seeker from Splatoon 1.

Anyone hit directly by Toxic Mist for 3 seconds should get their mobility reduced by 45% aka bring back some more aspects of Disruptor.
 


What did those app do specifically? Were they just for schedule display?
I hope this doesn't extent later to websites we usually use for building, stats, seeds, etc.

There's absolutely nothing rockabilly or blues about it, I guess the blues is supposed to reference the blue ring octopus member but that's a huge stretch imo. The Japanese title, Jellyroll Twister, is so much better. At least Ska-blam is a better name than Two-tone Territory I suppose

 
I can't wait to hear the new songs in battle, they're amazing! A little disappointing it's (likely) only 2 of them after 9 months tho :/

Ultra Stamp nerf???????? Splatana Stamper getting massive nerfs despite not even being top tier anymore? Missiles unchanged??? ZERO changes to all the terrible sub weapons on the new kits???

As somebody who plays Stamper as one of their mains, ouch that ink consumption nerf killed me. We'll see how it is in practice but looking at it, I'd argue that almost kills the weapon.

And no utility sub buff is a head scratcher. I thought them giving us all of these kits with them meant that they'd be getting buffs. Not very happy with the patch tbh, although the long-awaited Brella fixes and League being back in the form of Anarchy Open is welcome.

The reasoning makes sense, don't get me wrong, but Stamper's nerfs are way overtuned. Imo the burst bomb nerf was enough to balance Stamper out.

Although, Machine and Splash nerfs are very much welcome so I consider it a net positive.
 
To put some of the changes in absolutes:

Splatana Stamper
Horizontal slashes: 25 -> 19 per ink tank (13 -> 10 after 1 burst bomb | 2 -> 1 after 2 burst bombs)
Charged slashes: 11 -> 8 per ink tank (6 -> 4 after 1 burst bomb | 1 -> 0 after 2 burst bombs)

Sloshing Machine
Fire rate: 33 -> 38 frames
Time to kill with at least 1 direct hit: 52-> 57 frames
Time to kill with indirect hits only: 85 -> 95 frames
Max potential painting speed: 29 -> 25 points per second

Octobrush
Swings: 31 -> 33 per ink tank (9 -> 10 after 1 suction bomb)

Snipewriter 5H
Strafe speed: 60 -> 68 (Splattershot is 72)
Amount of Ink Saver (Main) needed for 3rd charge in 1 ink tank: 1 main 1 sub -> 1 sub

Ultra Stamp
Duration: 9 -> 7.5 seconds

Tacticooler
Boost duration: 15 -> 17 seconds
 
Super Chump buffs are Yeah, Stamper nerfs are UnYeah. You have to be really good at it to compete with easier weapons and they nerf it anyways? So weird.

  • Made it so that when certain conditions are met, two players on the winning team who made great efforts will celebrate each other’s brave fighting after performing their victory emotes.
  • Made it possible to select from two different ink-color combinations when Color Lock is enabled.

Snipewriter currently needs 1 main 3 subs of Run Speed Up to reach the soon-to-be updated strafe speed, and since it will have higher base strafe speed it also means that any Run Speed Up will have a greater effect in Ver 4.0. With the Tacticooler buff it also got 2 free subs of Special Power Up and a greater effect on small amounts of that ability.

After the patch Stamper would need 1 main 3 subs of Ink Saver (Main) to counter its ink efficiency nerf, plus 1 main 1 sub of Ink Saver (Sub) to counter the previous Burst Bomb ink efficiency nerf.

Ballpoint, Splash Neo and Rapid Deco would need 2 subs of Special Charge Up to counter their points for special nerf.

I have no idea what Nintendo is doing with Brellas nowadays. They are still so bad. Also it's super weird that they haven't updated Tri Stringers and Splatanas with new kits.
