PlayStation PlayStation Showcase announced (May 24th, 1 PM PDT / 9 PM BST)

Sony forgot to show up to their own showcase lmao

C+, some cool third party stuff but the 1st party presence was abysmal, especially considering it’s been 21 months since the last showcase (which was also pretty underwhelming)

Well, in France I'm sure we're going to see a lot of "ass" jokes about the "Sony Project Q" or "Sony PQ".

why uh

why did spiderman look so terrible right before the switch
what do you mean
There were definitely some hitches graphically from what I saw. I don't know if it was the reflections but there were some weird things happening. I thought maybe it was me but I'm seeing a lot of people talk about it lmao. Someone did say the 4k trailer is crisp but idk. I'll have to watch it myself to see.
Could just be stream stutters I get that often. Maybe PS5 has shader stutter now lmao

That was a ok PS Indie World. With extras of release dates for few big games. Talos II wins the big prize for me.

Wait most people think this was a bad show? Many good games presented in a good pacing. How?

Honestly, a lot of the trailers just blended together after a while. Felt some just ended at really weird moments.

It's a side effect of the killer no filler approach imo.

The way how Q Lite looks almost exactly like that 2 year old patent

Didn't do much for me. The games that caught my attention were all indies (Plucky Squire, Neva, Ultros, and maybe Sword of the Sea + Revenant Hill). I'll probably pick-up Spider-Man 2 at some point, but it definitely felt like a sequel sequel lol.

I forgot about Sword of the Sea that looked super fun. Hoverboarding with momentum in a hilly desert? Sign me up! I loved Journey.

Loved the showcase. DD2 looks so much like the first game it's kind of surprising.
I also kinda expected Stellar Blade to show up since it's on the main menu for PS5 but I don't recall seeing it. Oh well, hope it releases soon.

I was hoping Sony was going to give me a good reason to get a PS5 this year. Spider-man 2 is the only reason but I can just borrow my cousin's ps5 for that.

pacing is subjective though. The way they went from one game to the next felt jarring at times, especially with MGS. Way too many GaaS games, and just nothing of substance really. Dragon's Dogma 2, Marathon, and Phantasy Blade were interesting. I personally wasn't sure if what we saw from the last one was all gameplay or a mix of gameplay and cg and Sony doesn't inspire confidence in that area haha.

Plus, uh, I don't think these games are exclusive to Ps5. I don't know about Phantasy Blade but Marathon is multiplatform and I don't see why Dragon's Dogma 2 wouldn't be either.

Sword of the Sea trailer for whoever hasn't seen it because it deserves more attention and I think you guys would like this style of game:

Almost no first party exclusives, almost no real gameplay, and Spiderman 2 looks like a PS4 game at best.

I don't get it.

The Plucky Squire (also coming to Switch), Dragons Dogma II, The Talos Principle 2, Sword of the Sea, Neva and that game from the Nights in the Woods makers all look super interesting. Even from a Nintendo perspective no?

My box is better than your box pouts

Spider-Man 2 looks amazing. Can't wait! Sword of the Sea interests me as well.
Spider-Man 2 sure looks impressive on a technical level biut boy does it look like QTE the game.
Nah, the E3 2017 trailer for the first game was presented similarly, and it ended up being indicative of solely the particular mission shown, rather than what the game as a whole is.

Nearly 60% on Era thought it was mediocre to bad. That’s just the takeaway from majority of people was that it was mediocre or worse
Yeah I know, I just saw it.

I don't really see it. Only thing that was disappointing to me was PSVR2, don't see the point of that when they have seemingly no games for that system. Otherwise there were so many little games that I thought that look interesting.

I'd not have thought that this show would be disliked so much. I'm really surprised.

Don't get me wrong, some of the games shown left an impression on me.

But the vast majority did not - and for an hour long show that was literally just game trailers, that's not a good thing.

Bungie already selling Marathon shirts on their store for... $77.77. I can only assume that's a placeholder price.

The last one was both gameplay and CGI

Wasn't much for me. Most of the games I could see myself playing I've already been aware of for quite a while. For completely new stuff I guess MGS remake is neat and that underwater anime game looked cool maybe I don't remember the name and I'm not really sure what the game's about.

I see. Yeah maybe there were different expectations in play. I don't even own a PS5, so I wasn't really looking forward to something. This show doesn't gave me any reason to buy one (except for maybe Final Fantasy or Spider-Man), but even like a perfect show wouldn't had done that, with PC and Switch I can play most of the games shown here anyway (even many PS5 exclusives at some point). Still it got me excited for the rest of the year and beyond. Like october looks really packed with games.

Overall meh but Spiderman 2 looks great, I'm keen on Dragon's Dogma 2 as well but fave for me is Alan Wake 2.
Lov Remedy and Alan Wake and the sequel looks great, has the same feel as the first one but despite the horror.

Were there any PS5 exclusive games?
Everything seemed cross platform.

I don't know how I feel about the look of the Symbiote suit in 2.
I was expecting something different but maybe it was just the stream quality. It looked off.

I'm convinced that after the PS5 launch, Sony can no longer afford to money-hat exclusives. The big exclusives that remained are Final Fantasy games that probably started development before the PS5. Meanwhile Atlus games, Street Fighter, Konami collections all going multiplatform.

I can't be satisfied with a PS event if that's the best they can offer.
I have a PS5, and I feel that the most exciting games were released in its first year: Demon's Souls, Ratchet, Sackboy, even Astro's Playroom

Just curious: did you play the first Spider-Man, and if so, what'd you think? Any plans to pick up the sequel?
I did, first on PS4 and then the remaster + Miles on PS5. I liked it, the story was great, but I didn't find the gameplay and exploring the world particulary exciting. Miles was just okay.

I will pick it up, but definitely not at lauch.

A combination of already announced, niche, and indy games. Interesting, sure, but not what people wanted from this presentation.

This was supposed to be PS5 phase 2. The beginning of true current-gen exclusive games. People were expecting FFVII Rebirth, Last of Us Factions, and other first party PS5 exclusives. All we really got was Spiderman, which we already knew about, and a CGI trailer for a Bungie game that's probably very far off.
