Yea, if you’re at all curious about the progression of Square’s rendering pipeline it’s worth a watch. I don’t consider it essential viewing and it’s definitely worth turning your brain off for, but it is a romp for what it tries to be.

Speaking of FF7, I’ve never actually seen Advent Children. Is it worth getting a copy and setting aside an evening to watch it?
I loved Advent Children. Especially after being disappointed by Spirits Within, I saw AC and thought "see that's a Final Fantasy movie."

And if you can, make sure you find "Advent Children Complete." It's an extended cut that added a lot of good stuff to the story (theatrical cut was a little confusing and rushed) and tweaked a couple fight scenes in some neat ways. It's definitely the best version of the film.

Well that’s Future Redeemed down! (Playtime at 28:38)Just an awesome ride and an excellent wrap up for this narrative hexology. Gonna miss these guys, but it was fun to get a little peek into the future of our previous 2 protags, even if we don’t know everything. And yes adult rex is cool. Tho I am annoyed We never got confirmation on Mythra’s kid. Either we didn’t see them or it’s Alexandra. Could definitely buy it being Alexandra also even I caught the X Easter egg. Also loved how they snuck the rex and Shulk boss battle into the main game Nopon archsage trials. Well I should be winding down… but I’m starting ToTK instead! Oh and here’s my affinity chart for those who care. Basically just skipped the super bosses

IMG_6740.jpg

Will probably borrow half of this for my completed games post tomorrow XD

Nayuta releases on my birthday, heck yeah!

They miss Fall by 2 days lol. Glad to have a date, after playing more classic Ys (even though its a Trails game) I've been excited to try this game. And with that we have no Falcom games on deck till next year.

I guess we might hear something around fall. Only 3 games (5 if you count the switch ports of Xanadu and Oath) to catch up on, almost there lol.

We're getting/have gotten a ton lately, though, and Ys X will be next year (I assume?) so they'll keep on coming!

Its possible. Ys X will most likely have less dialogue than the Kuro games, so its possible. NIS published the pc version (japanese only) of Kuro recently, so outside of console ports, one would think all that's left is the localization.

Rhapsody is very charming and chill, but boy can it be obtuse on where to go next, I’ve got 4 of the 5 stones and I don’t have a clue where to go for the last one and I’m not finding any dialogue to steer me either

Finished Rhapsody a musical adventure last night. Fun charming game that doesn’t overstay its welcome! Hype were finally getting the sequel and spinoff in a couple months. Ending got a couple tears out of me. Made you take responsibility for the bad choices and foolish actions you made along the way, but not as much as you feel trash like some games. Majorly was a highlight especially by the end. Took about 11 hrs.
The dungeons were similar looking mazes but generally not big enough to be annoying. Combat while it had positioning was straight forward and didn’t take much grinding.

Don’t know when I’ll give the paired game La Pucelle: Ragnarok a go

I took a break from Zelda cause my vacation time was over (still thinking of that game). So I started Future Redeem, a bit easier to handle and shorter. I am about 2 hours in and the fan service is amazing so far, the cast is great, Matthew is a fantastic protagonist. After months of playing as Rean, nothing wrong with him, having an energetic wise-cracking protagonist feels fresh lol.

One thing that sorta surprised me is that even though XC3 is very flashy with cutscenes and battles, FR seems to amp that to 11. Even early game you experience something that feels different. We don't know MS next game, but giving the direction and new hardware its gonna be interesting. Looking forward to continue the game after work (I might just bring my switch lol).

I know a few people here were looking forward to the Dragon Quest Dai video game. It should be getting a release date announcement in roughly 48 hours so that’s exciting.

I definitely need to get back to the anime at some point. I was a few episodes shy of episode 50.

After long bouts of procrastination and other games, I finally reached Act 4 in Cold Steel IV!

I can't believe I am almost up to date with the all the entries released in the West! 😭
And to think theres 3 more games waiting to come out over here, the trails journey do be a long one. XD

Very excited for Reverie coming out soon!

I hope you can join the small, but passionate crowd of Fami Trails fans in the Reverie ST in July if you finish CS IV in time and are up for back to back massive RPGs :)

Also will be curious to hear your thoughts on CSIV overall here after you beat it!

Started the original Nier on PS3 last night. I'm someone who really struggled to find much enjoyment with Automata but Nier is a game I've been interested in ever since I saw my brother playing it like 10+ years ago and I heard the track "Kaine Salvation" So I'm happy to say I'm easily enjoying this a lot more than Automata. The combat is simple but serviceable right now, characters are interesting and dialogue has some nice humour to it. I already like the dynamic between Weiss and Papa Nier and I'm a sucker for dad saving daughter stories so it got me involved right away. Just has that feeling that a few PS3 rpgs have to me where it's that kind of inbetween point between more modern games and older style jrpgs. Also, not to make it too much of a comparison between the original Nier and Automata but the more fantasy style of Nier is also much more appealing than the sci fi type stuff of Automata. Good stuff so far.

As for why I'm playing the PS3 version and not the remaster that came out a while ago. I'm not as interested in the brother character compared to the father character and also from the little I've heard I don't like the changes they made to the soundtrack. As I mentioned before Kaine Salvation was such a unique and great sounding piece of music that I heard all those years ago that really solidified my desire to play Nier. Well, listening to the remastered version and I just don't like it anywhere near as much. Music always plays a very large part in the games I enjoy so I'm happy to sacrifice some of the modernities of the remaster if it means I get the better soundtrack.

Assuming I stick with the game, beat it, and enjoy it, I do plan to play the remastered version at some point as well. But right now I'm very happy with my choice to play the original version first.

So there is a Dragon Quest Day thing happening this year! It’s just this, and not DQ3 or DQ12, sigh. But this looks interesting too!

I would say that ver.1.22 has a better soundtrack overall, but I like the original version of Kainé Salvation and Kainé Escape better.

Kainé Salvation:

Kainé Escape:

But for example I like the ver.1.22 version of Emil Sacrifice and Emil Karma better.

Emil Sacrifice:

I love the part at minute 1:39; somehow it reminds me of this:

Emil Karma:

They are one of my favorite OSTs of all time; especially Kainé Escape (old version) and Emil Karma (ver.1.22 version).

And I love the dynamic music of NieR:Automata:

Finished XC3 Future Redeemed. A nice sendoff to the series and great fanservice (not too much). Looking forward to the future of MS titles. If there was one thing that I wanted, for fun,
was a cameo of Malos and Pyra/Mythra
.

Hell yeah Dragon Quest Day!

Also it’s the 10th Anniversary for SMTIV, my favorite in the series. I really hope that remaster rumor is real and we see it in the next few weeks

Same here. I started Apocalypse early this year (and stopped) so I wouldn't mind buying an HD version, more smt is always welcomed.

Also since they are doing EO, they need to port Strange Journey Redux, my gateway and favorite entry.

If it’s real, I would bet it’ll be during the Xbox show much like how they had Persona last year. Can’t rule out SGF either, but they’re only a couple days apart anyway

If Xbox show has Persona 3 remake, and SMT remasters that would be cool.

Weird relying on Xbox for rpg news lol

I already have so much on my plate but I'd be tempted to drop it all for IV. What a gem! The vibes are impeccable, need more.

Has to be the year right? I wonder if the reason it is taking so long is that they went ahead and made the full NES trilogy like they were kicking around.
I don't know , this was announced on may 2021, and the only news so far was Horii "you are going to get it". I would say DQ day would be a good day to announce more info alas SQE doesn't think so. On the other hand this is like THE iconic HD2D remake so I guess the don't want to show anything that's not up to the quality everyone expects

Gematsu has a bunch of details. It is still a worldwide release and they added an Xbox version so everyone can play!
Looks great. I hope they have a demo, because I need to know how combat feels.

It’s also a game I could see reappearing first in an event, most likely a Direct at this point. So they could be waiting… for whenever the next one is

YS X gameplay

on-foot gameplay looks super fun, not sure how i feel about the naval battles though...
Hopefully they aren't obligatory, that's my only wish. Hated the defense missions in 8, then they doubled down on 9 with them and they really don't offer anything interesting, it's just padding. If the naval battles do offer something different I'm in, but so far based on the previous 2 games, seems to go in the same effect of the defense missions

I'd be fine if naval missions were effectively replacing defense missions, since I didn't really like those either. I just don't like anything in games that gives you a letter grade, and holds unique rewards behind the best grades.

Meanwhile waiting for news of DQ3 2DHD

sAd2Z8I.jpg
It's crazy to me that we've had both Live a Live and Octopath 2 announced and released in the time since DQ3's announcement and still not another word about it.

edit: Also, after the FF pixel remasters, does anyone else think DQ3 2D-HD could just have the bare bones NES content? No thief class, nor personality system, etc.

COnsidering pretty much every version after the SNES one has been the base one , I don't see them returning to the base NES version. The additional classes , items and rebalanced stuff makes the game work better. I could see some rebalancing to the personality system though

Etrian Odyssey remasters are out! I'm probably going to pick up EO3 and at least give it a shot.

Now that those are released, I'm definitely watching Atlus to see what they have next in the pipeline - they tend to focus mostly on one game at a time for marketing and hype purposes, and they now have nothing announced. So I think it's about time for us to see their next game during SGF/XBOX/etc. in the coming weeks.

Honestly I hope the release something new, not that I have anything about the supposed remasters / ports of previious SMT/Persona games, but I really want something I haven't played

Well for brand new stuff, we know that RE:Fantasy is a thing, and Persona 6 is coming at some point. But both of those could still be a ways off. So I'm pretty much just expecting either SMT remasters, or maybe an SMTV pseudo-expansion, or Persona 3 Remake to be the next thing up.

I would love some brand new stuff, too - maybe something that comes out of nowhere like Soul Hackers 2 did, like a new Devil Survivor. Or another dungeon crawler like Strange Journey. Seems likely that a brand new Etrian game is being worked on too, but I have to imagine that that will also be a while before it arrives.

The pixel remasters were intentionally faithful to their original versions, so I don't see how that relates to dragon quest. Plus the (few) screenshots they shared from 2 years ago showed a person sitting in front of a message board by the castle entrance in Aliahan, which IIRC is not in any other version of the game. So there are changes already (and if I had to guess, the message board could point to something like a quest list).

The real question is whether they'll manage to integrate the game boy version content without making it exceedingly grindy, or whether there'll be weird omissions again like the pachisi tracks.

More rumblings about Persona 3 Remake make it likely to be shown next week. Makes me glad I resisted the urge to play the port earlier this year. Here’s hoping it’s actually the “best of all worlds” version that fans have been wanting for years (merging the best parts of FES, the original, and P3P)

From what I know about Atlus (and the fanbase) it will still probably be a great game, but lacking something that will cause even more Discourse™ about which version of P3 is the best.

Even so, it’s tough not to feel very excited about the possibility of something that isn’t even confirmed yet lol
